This conference will focus on 1963 as a key year in America’s involvement in the Vietnam War. If one looks at the program roster, Dr. John Newman is not invited yet. But if his book JFK and Vietnam had not been published, would they being holding this conference? No book did more to change the view of scholars and academics on this subject than Newman’s book. To invite over 30 speakers and not invite Newman makes the whole affair problematic. Especially since it comes two months before the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination. And secondly, if one looks at the roster of speakers, because many of them have not done anywhere near the stature of work Newman has done on the subject.

We urge everyone to write, call or fax Dr. Steve Maxner, director of the Vietnam Center and Archive, Texas Tech University to correct this oversight. These are the contact numbers:

Phone: 806-834-2621

E mail: steve.maxner@ttu.edu

Fax: 806-742-8664

Address: Vietnam Center, Box 41045, Lubbock, Texas 79409-1045
