It seems to me the word "assassin" as in lone gunman was being pushed hard very early on by the media. And they were getting this party line from the government. And I see the word "Castro" appear in a few places...

UPI Newspaper Fronts from Day of Days Following JFK's Assassination

Following are front pages of newspapers from across the nation from the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963, and the days following his assassination. As you will note many of the newspapers represented here have long since become defunct. United Press International dominated the front pages of these papers, and legendary White House correspondent Merriman Smith got bylines in many. This material was printed in a publication distributed by United Press International as a promotional piece, and was provided to me compliments of Lewis Lord.

Thanks for posting. I read my home town newspaper THE FLORIDA TIMES UNION that I surely read back in 1963. One front page story said that LHO was once a resident of Jacksonville which I didn't know before. But the end of the story said that shots were fired in the theater where LHO was arrested, and that policeman Tippit was killed there :hotorwot It listed Chicago Tribune Press Service as the source for that BS article.

Another UPI story said they found a 30 cal Enfield rifle.

Hey, Robert, do you have any idea how we can get the rest of the front section of those papers? Some of the stories continue on a later page. I'd sure like to read them.

I don't know. Here is the original web link: http://www.downhold.org/lowry/JFK-NUPFRONTS.html

Obviously, many of these are on microfilm at libraries around the country - not an easy answer.
