John Simkin Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 The New Nation newspaper has just held a poll where their readers voted on the greatest black icons. Thought you might be interested in the results: (1) Jesus; (2) Martin Luther King; (3) Malcolm X; (4) Nelson Mandella; (5) Mulhammad Ali; (6) Mary Seacole; (9) Marcus Garvey; (17) Steve Bilko; (19) Tommie Smith/John Carlos; (22) Kwame Nkrumah; (27) Sojourner Truth; (29) Rosa Parks; (35) Michael Manley); (38) Angela Davies; (39) Harriet Tubman; (53) Paul Robeson; (61) Samuel Coleridge Taylor; (78) Oladuah Equiano.
Jim Hudson Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Interesting responses. I have, for years, found it sad that we teachers in the U.S. have only concentrated on Black History during the month of February. That has been declared Black History month. That is a sad commentary as black history should be inclusive in all of the history at all times.
