For the rest of us.   Can someone some please summarize, concisely, the implications of Gladio regarding the JFK assassination.

There are two salient ones I think.

Lyman Lemnitzer, who JFK thought he was kicking upstairs since he did not know about the stay behind ops. John Newman has done some good work on this.

Clay Shaw and the CMC.

Agree Jim. Prime suspects.

Gladio points to the plotters and perpetrators ... some implications:

  • Italian politics, fascism, Angleton and Harvey, Allen Dulles ... Clay Shaw
  • The precursor assassination attempt (1961 Generals' Putsch) on Charles DeGaulle  who later kicked NATO out of France in 1966
  • Extensive use of false flag events
  • Middle East foreign policy and Israel
  • NATO secret armies created by Dulles and Angleton in 1952, and controlled by the CIA
  • JFK's approval of "l'apertura" and financial support to Italian socialists (and Aldo Moro's fate)
  • William Harvey's posting as CIA Rome Station Chief
  • The Italian press (Paese Sera) reporting of Permindex and CMC (expelled from Italy in 1962) as a "creature of the CIA"
  • Permindex financial backing from J. Henry Schroder Corp. (Allen Dulles became their General counsel) closely associated with Sullivan and Cromwell
  • Lyman Lemnitzer becomes NATO's Supreme Allied Commander of Europe (SACEUR) from 1963-1969
  • Basing the NATO Mediterranean command in Naples, moving the Defense College from Paris to Rome, and the US Sixth Fleet from Villefranche to Gaeta in 1967
  • JFK's foreign policy in Vietnam, Cuba, Congo and Indonesia
  • Later use of CIA/FBI domestic infiltration of antiwar activists  (same game plan)

Also, this, from Peter Dale Scott's THE ROAD TO 9/11

Quote

Guido Giannettini, one of the Italian authors of this strategy of tension (and of the Piazza Fontana bombing eight years later), came to America in 1961 to lecture at the Naval War College on "Techniques and Possibilities of a Coup d'état in Europe,". In March 1962 the Joint Chiefs of Staff prepared their own documents developing Giannettini's strategy. This was Operation Northwoods.

When it got rolling, Gladio was essentially a massive, murderous conspiracy linking government and intelligence forces from multiple countries, so anything that sheds light on the perpetrators and their activities is bound to be interesting. A few weeks ago John Newman noted on Facebook that he was looking at links  - for his forthcoming instalment of his JFK series, ARMAGEDDON - between Lyman Lemnitzer, Licio Gelli, P2 and Gladio. So I'm guessing next year we'll see where he's going with that.

Right after the Reagan inauguration Gelli went on the run from italian authorities. At that time, Colonel Frank Brandstetter was contacted by his Intelligence handlers ( possibly ACSI) and asked to be on the lookout for someone looking to buy a coastal property in Acapulco, where Brandstetter lived and operated. He was told to look for properties with large satellite discs, a boat doc, and multiple entrances and exits (quick getaway). He located a property that fit the bill to a tee, that had been recently purchased. He informed his handlers of that fact, and they instructed him to fuhgetaboudit, services no longer needed. I’m not sure exactly when, but Brandstetter figured out the mysterious buyer was Gelli.

Don't forget that William Colby was stationed in Italy in the 1950s.  Even his wiki page lists his Gladio efforts:

"Then an OSS friend offered him a job at the CIA, and Colby accepted. Colby spent the next 12 years in the field, first in Stockholm, Sweden. There, he helped set up the stay-behind networks of Operation Gladio, a covert paramilitary organization organized by the CIA to make any Soviet occupation more difficult, as he later described in his memoirs.[7]

"Colby then spent much of the 1950s based in Rome, under cover as a State Department officer,[6] where he led the Agency's covert political operations campaign to support anti-Communist parties in their electoral contests against left wing, Soviet Union–associated parties. The Christian Democrats and allied parties won several key elections in the 1950s, preventing a takeover by the Communist Party. Colby was a vocal advocate within the CIA and the United States government for engaging the non-Communist left wing parties in order to create broader non-Communist coalitions capable of governing fractious Italy; this position first brought him into conflict with James J. Angleton."

If not a planner, at least a facilitator with structural ambitions.  His liberal interest in "engaging the non-Communist left wing parties" that disturbed Angleton points toward his later willingness to accommodate Congress in the CIA's "Family Jewels" brouhaha that upset Helms.

On an unrelated note, Mr. Andrews, I would consider everything William Egan Colby said to the "United States Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities" and "United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence" a highly strategic "limited-hangout". He gave up nothing of any importance to those committees.

Well, if so, then the "Family Jewels" uproar is part of a legend created that Colby was a liberal Catholic humanist restructurer at CIA.  This means that Helms - called before committee from retirement - was not upset that past domestic spying was revealed, that Nelson Rockefeller didn't ask why Colby had to give away the whole store, and that people at CIA didn't lose their jobs in the housecleaning that followed   And that Colby wasn't afterward mistrusted so much that Ford and Kissinger had other motives for replacing him with George H. W. Bush.

Of course, all committees since the Warren Commission have in the end dispensed the balm of Gilead to the intelligence community.  Look at how fast Iran-Contra left Congressional purview once, or even before, the indicted had their cases disposed of by various means.

What do you know, or believe, about Colby's death?  His son made a documentary film that posits that Colby went out canoeing dangerously on purpose, out of remorse over Vietnam, and that he signaled his death wish to his family beforehand.  Are there alternative scenarios that stand up?

Thank you for the interesting posts.
