There are conflicting news reports now about whether he was on suicide watch. (E.g., NY Times says no. TMZ says yes.) But this raises another question: If he was on suicide watch in July why was he removed from that status so quickly?

I just read they removed him from watch on July 29th

And again - the news blackout after the neck wounding.  Even if you accept that coverage was eclipsed by back-to-back mass shootings, Epstein was still Story # 3 in the US -- and not a word about the cause of the neck wounding, the suicide watch status, etc.

Mainstream news is terrible of course they were trying to avoid this. Different set of circumstances but it reminds me of the 1999 trial involving the MLK JR assassination. Remember how much attention that got?

Why any of this in the first place?  All that money, all those connections - why wasn't investigation and prosecution quashed?  How did his enemies become more influential than his friends?

I think that is a very good question. If I were to speculate I would guess that the whole Epstein affair sounds like a honey trap operation. And when his profile became too public it became too difficult to protect him from prosecution any longer and he had to be eliminated.

Arrogant white billionaire, political scandal, #metoo, underaged girls and willing young women...not as shrug-worthy as a long-dead civil rights icon, unless paid to be.

True but that was a big story that deserved to be covered. Point is the mainstream news has picked what it wanted to cover for a long time and it’s just getting worse

Just seen that apparently the cameras malfunctioned last night. Not surprised by that one bit.

Where did you read or see this John?

If true, you've got to be kidding me.

If you can comprehend it, the MSM is actually trying to uncover the facts about this one.

I think its just too suspicious in its timing.  Sort of like Ferrie's death five days after Garrison's inquiry is exposed.

Robin Williams hung himself from a door knob with a belt.

Guess someone could do this by tying a sheet or pajamas around a sink faucet head just 3 feet off the ground?

A toilet flushing handle would be even lower.

Would like to see a picture of the inside of Epstein's jail cell.

What did Epstein use to hang himself? What did he tie this to?

Here we go again with an event that will elicit a media storm of claims that the "conspiracy nuts" will go manic and have a field day with this.

Yet, isn't it reasonable to at least contemplate and "consider" more to this story than a simple depressed guy suicide, considering Epstein's previous suicide attempt just two weeks previous (July 24th?) which should have called for more serious suicide watch protocols than someone just talking about suicide and including cameras and a longer than one week or so trial of this?

Plus the fact that Epstein's crimes and activities if revealed in all their entirety could truly, very well have brought down so many highest level power people that may have participated in these crimes to any degree, both here and abroad?

Epstein was one of the most important and threatening to others criminals in the last 30 years in this regards.

These "threatened others" people must be relieved to some degree.

I am not sure in what ways Epstein's death helps these people but it has to help some.

Epstein's personal under oath testimony would have been the most important, powerful and devastating of any incriminating evidence against these people.

Imagine if Epstein had cracked at some point and told everything he knew?

Something that far reaching scandalous would have an effect even on the 2020 Presidential election.  Just the fact that Trump had anything to do with Epstein socially for years up until the early 2,000's ( and is on public record saying what a terrific guy he was) could not have gained him votes, only taken some away.

Someone sent me a text of a news story from a few hours ago. It was from an independent journalist who reported it earlier today. I actually don’t see anyone else anywhere reporting it so I’m guessing it’s just rumor at this point. I apologize I jumped the gun there and should have noted that in my original post.

Yes, will have to see if this is just a rumor.

Below is a link to a nationally reported article that already mentions how this event will feed and work the conspiracy nuts into a frenzy.

This has come out mere hours after the Epstein suicide story broke!

Besides the derogatory title this article actually does mention this conspiracy nut view with at least some balance in saying the Epstein story can't help but draw some logical scrutiny beyond that of most jail suicides.

But, my life experience has shown that 90% of people who come across news story articles never read the articles. They see the title and keep that in their heads.

It's like the National Enquirer which most all people who go to grocery stores see on the check out line racks with big lettered news story titles but never buy and read.

These bright red bold lettered sensational news story titles do grab them enough to read and even stay in too many people's minds as more truthful than not.

It's a very effective brainwashing tool.

This article clearly uses the conspiracy nut case angle in it's title as a capturing device with a very negative slant toward those who might feel the Epstein suicide wasn't just a simple suicide.

3 hours ago - The death Saturday morning of financier Jeffrey Epstein, an accused sex trafficker with connections to some of the most powerful people in the world, represents a perfect storm in the world of conspiracy theories. Epstein was found unconscious in his cell in the Metropolitan ...

Didn't the "DC MADAM" Deborah Jeanne Palfrey hang herself also?

In 2008 I believe.

Another criminal suspect that had massive dirt on very powerful people.

In early 2007, Palfrey learned of the death, apparently through suicide by hanging, of Brandi Britton, one of her former escort service employees.[11] Palfrey reacted to this news by saying, "I guess I'm made of something that Brandy Britton wasn't made of." According to her former attorney, Montgomery Blair Sibley, she even took the extraordinary step of writing directly to the prosecutor, promising to show more resolve than Britton.[28]

Journalist Dan Moldea, who was working with Palfrey on a book, recalled that in a 2007 conversation, Palfrey told him, "I am not going back to prison. I will commit suicide first."[20] He said her previous prison experience had traumatized her and she felt she couldn't do it again.[1][11]

When Jim McDougal of Whitewater fame died in prison no one had to murder him. At least not directly. All they had to do was withhold his heart medication.
