Importance of iron in biology

Recommended Posts

Hal Drakesmith is the Professor of Iron Biology at the MRC Human Immunology Unit in the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford. His laboratory works on the interaction of iron homeostasis with immunity, infection, anemia, and inflammation, with a particular focus on the role of the iron regulatory hormone, hepcidin. Through investigating how iron and anemia influence immunity and infectious diseases, their research inspires treatments that control iron physiology to benefit the host at the expense of pathogens.
