John Simkin
Tim Yeo wrote an interesting article about the future of the Conservative Party in yesterday’s Guardian. http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1480179,00.html However, another article in the Sunday Times suggests that the Conservative Party has a serious image problem. It even has the wrong name. As we live in a fast-changing society most people dislike the word “conservative”. Even the young pretenders for the leadership are public school boys. It was assumed in the 1970s that a Tory Party led by someone from a public school background could ever become PM. (Of course the Labour Party is a different matter – hence Tony Blair).
