David Yarnell
Is there a connection between Ohio Governor James Rhodes refusing to grant extradition of Gordon Novel to Jim Garrison's courtroom and Gov. Rhodes' ties with the Licavoli crime family based in Cleveland / Detroit ? Two years after Gov. Rhodes kept Mr. Novel far away from Louisiana, the governor sprung Thomas Licavoli from a penitentiary where he had been holed up for decades. Life magazine wrote an excellent investigative piece on this matter in 1969. (That rules out Clare Booth Luce as an enemy.) Never heard of the Rhodes / Licavoli story ? Then click on: Governor James Rhodes Kept Gordon Novel Away From Garrison Of course, none of this has anything to do with the deaths of four students at Kent State University in 1970, the year after the Life magazine expose. Yes, Gov. Rhodes called in the National Guard, but the guardsmen were sleep - deprived because they had patrolled interstate highways during a Teamsters strike. And let's leave Ron Pataky AKA Out of Towner out of this. Yes, he was on a first - name basis with "Jim" Rhodes on account of the governor's mansion's proximity to Pataky's newspaper office, but nothing about that is fishy. If you lived in Columbus, Ohio in the 1960s then you remember the folksy feel of the downtown sector. Everyone knew the Citizen Journal newspaper was across the street from the governor's mansion. But how about a connection between Rhodes, Licavoli, the Purple Gang and the assassination ? Hello, John Simkin ?

Mark Stapleton
Sorry, the Mafia is considered a "false sponsor" on this Forum! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> David, As you're probably aware, Tim is the Forum's resident Republican Party glovepuppet. Mention the Mafia, Castro or any evil lefties as suspects and he's all ears but mention a Republican Party figure and he yells and screams like a 3 year old. It's amazing to watch. As for your post, it does look like Governor Rhodes was working for someone other than his constituents. While I don't believe the Italian mafia had the necessary influence to be behind the assassination, I do believe one mafia figure may have been implicated--Jewish kingpin Meyer Lansky. According to Lucky Luciano's autobiography, Lansky's influence grew steadily after Luciano's departure and by the fifties Lansky was omnipotent. All it took to kill JFK was a couple of rifles. One mafia figure may have been implicated, Lansky? What about Ruby, Trafficante, Marcello? I will ignore your puerile comments, Mark. Normally there is an inverse relationship the frequency that someone stoops to name-calling and his IQ. Trust me if I wanted to insult you I could come up with something a lot more clever than that. First you go off and Dillon and now Lansky. I don't think you ever read anything. All you do is post your ludicrous comments. If I recall correctly Lansky was out of the country when JFK was shot. Tim Gratz
A good point. The "big fish" need not have been in the US to orchestrate the assassination. However I also believe Lansky was not actively participating in mafia affairs at this time, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any information about this point? Mark Knight
I FOUND IT!!! THE ELVIS CONNECTION TO THE JFK ASSASSINATION!!! But how about a connection between Rhodes, Licavoli, the Purple Gang and the assassination ? Hello, John Simkin ? NOW...remember the lyric from the Elvis hit, Jailhouse Rock? "...THE WHOLE RHYTHM SECTION WAS THE PURPLE GANG..." [i'm surprised Tim missed this one.]
Mark Stapleton
Hidden meanings in Elvis lyrics, the Purple Gang and Tim Gratz defending Meyer Lansky. This thread's freaking me out. p.s. I didn't realise that Meyer had Republican Party connections--thanks for the heads-up Tim.
Christopher T. George
Hi all I'm still trying to get my mind round what I have been reading that Elvis looked like Officer J.D. Tippit who looked like JFK, and that it might be Tippit who is buried in Arlington National Cemetery instead of JFK. How can they be so sure? It might be Elvis in Arlington if Elvis looked like JFK, and so it must have been a lookalike fatsuit Elvis who died in 1977. . . Chris

It would not surprise me at all if Meyer fronted for and assumed Charlie Lucky's role after his deportation. Seems that every OC don agreed on one thing, Meyer could be trusted. Many sources, including his bio 'Little Man' make it clear that Lansky was still the mob's banker in the 60 + 70's. All of the deals where multiple families owned points in a venture, like a casino, were all coordinated by Lansky. He was very much involved in OC.
