Tuition Fees and University Applications

During the debate on tuition fees government ministers insisted that this would not result in a fall in university applications. Figures published today show that the government was wrong. The higher education minister admitted that university applications this year fell for the first time in eight years.

Anyway, Tony Blair got support from David Cameron today as he announced a change in policy. It seems that the Tories got their sums wrong in the last election and as the "New Conservative Party" does not believe in higher taxes, it now supports tuition fees.

Ahhh one good Tory deserves another.

Surprised that all the combined intelligence of DfES etc in its various guises, the treasury, Secs of State, MPs and all the policy advisers, spin doctors and all the king's horses couldn't work out a simple bit of economics - when the real price rises, demand will fall. How long until an HEI closes?

George Galloway for PM, anyone?
