What is the alternative to a Cold War-type global economy?

It's clear that the military-industrial complex has a lock on the ability to create global conflicts in order to feed their bottom line. Their profits are astronomical, nothing else seems to come close to engineering this type of fortune.

It stands to reason that powerful people would never willingly surrender that power or the ability to amass great wealth. It's crazy to even consider that.

So, absent a voluntary relinquishment of said power, what's the alternative? It seems to me the only choices are finding another, more peaceful way to create wealth, or revolution.

I'd be interested to hear other opinions.
