Derek McMillan
Details of the training courses for NUT members in Spring and Summer are available at http://westsussexteachersassociation.blogs...t-officers.html There is even a course on stress and wellbeing. I think we could all do with that one!
Derek McMillan
As mentioned elsewhere, John Illingworth has done a survey on mental health problems among teachers. Copies are available here I am intending to put it to the teacher governor at school to see if anything useful emerges from the governors. A "useful response" would be a recognition that new initiatives should take into account the potential harm to the stress levels of teachers as well as the potential benefits for the pupils or the administration. Every proposal to increase teacher workload in one area must be matched with a proposal to decrease it in another area. At the moment initiatives - some of which are good ideas and some of which are not - come thick and fast without consideration for the mental well-being of the people charged with implementing them.
