If you're gonna go with the Dulles cult within the CIA as the movers and shakers, Tracy Barnes would have to be right in the middle. IMO. He was Hunt's boss in this period, and was still in the position, unlike Dulles or Hunt, to create cover companies.

And the new CIA division Barnes headed and Hunt worked for was rather brazenly called the Domestic Operations Division, the very sound of which seemed hardly in the spirit of the CIA charter.

As I recall, Hunt claimed that the Domestic Op Division was mainly involved in book publishing. In a roundabout way, I suppose that's true. There have been hundreds if not thousands of books published about the JFK assassination.

I believe a slush and trust fund was set up using looted Nazi and Japanese gold. I have the book on order, but this is my very basic understanding of the source of the funds. The minutae of access and distribution are unknown to me.
