West Ham Academy

Last week the Guardian carried out a survey into the success of the club academies over the last few years. It was not surprising to discover that West Ham Academy had the most successful set-up. The following players were listed as coming through the academy: Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Kieran Richardson, Anton Ferdinand, Glen Johnson and Mark Noble. This list includes five players who were members of England’s World Cup squad. The next best was Liverpool with two in the squad: Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. Arsenal had two graduates from their academy who are current internationals, however, they were not playing for England: Cesc Fabregas (Spain) and Philippe Senderos (Switzerland).

I'd be pretty sure we also had the greatest number of former players and academy graduates move into management.

As an aside there are currently 3 pervious West Ham managers managing in the premiership, mostly at the wrong end albeit.

Long live the academy of footbal.

Though I fear our backroom has turned into Charlton.
