Cigdem Göle Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Actor Jared Leto's band 30 Seconds To Mars have an EMO image but their sound is much better than many EMO bands. A Beautiful Lie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EcX4OtLWVs Arcade Fire - I'd strongly recommend their 2007 album, Neon Bible. Neighborhood #1(Tunnels)

Cigdem Göle Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 (edited) Jonsi Birgisson's band, Sigur Ros (from Iceland) use minimalist, classical and melodic elements in their sound. Beginning from 1997, Sigur Ros have released five studio albums, one of which (Takk) gave them international fame. Almost all Sigur Ros videos have an outstanding art direction with beautiful scenery of Iceland. Vidrar Vel Til Loftrasa (Good Weather For Air Strikes) is one of the most powerful songs of the band and also its video is quite effective, but I decided not to give the youtube link to the video since some might find it disturbing. Cigdem Göle Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Some videos with nice choreographies OK Go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv5zWaTEVkI A good example of how to make a music video without spending any money. The Avalanches One of my all time favourites. Fatboy Slim A classic.

Cigdem Göle Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Amusing video and a very nice tuneMull Historical Society Robin Thicke http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO8aaAaSApc The song is very good. The video can be good, too if you disregard the white hat and the funny dance moves. But it's really bad. I hope Noel Gallagher is feeling better. Oasis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMqlXHp8-IY

The songs are appalling and Katie White's voice is unimpressive. I doubt very much if they will be a factor in British music in 12 months time (unless they are our representatives at next year's European song contest).

John Simkin Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 One way you can guarantee a hit record in the UK is to win a TV talent show. Last week saw the release of new singles from Leon Jackson (X-Factor) and Alesha Dixon (Strictly Come Dancing). However, they were both beaten by Geraldine McQueen (Peter Kaye) making fun of these records. You can see all three on YouTube: Leon Jackson - Don't Call This Love Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PTEsShRmBjY Geraldine McQueen “The Winners Song” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3vduTe6nkQ
