  1. Is this different from pming? If it is, I would like to open it because Steven and I were discussing things via pm last night, and it was rather annoying to have to wait for the forum to recognize that a message was sent and received. Perhaps it could be opened gradually. I don't have a problem with that, so long as the personal photo or avatar is not offensive. Is there something in the guidlines regulating what you can and cannot put up as one? Can we not easily remove the avatars/personal photos if they're offensive and give the person a warning, and take serious action the next time?
  2. Robbert: I have created an introductions topic, a troubleshooting topic, and I will create a simple discussion that we can begin to discuss. Once more people come we can add more, since it is rather difficult to enter a discussion halfway through.
  3. Will there be a limit on who can join the new forum? Just thinking from a moderators point of view, if we have a lot of people it would be more difficult to organize. Perhaps as time comes we can set up a new organizational system? Perhaps, in order to remind people that deadlines are coming we could email them when new polls, topics, debates have just started with all the information? The last forum I know had fewer people because people got wrapped up in their own school work. If we were to remind them about it, I think we'd have an easier time with getting debates flowing. Would we be permitted to email the students, or would that be an invasion upon their privacy?
  4. *raises hand* me! me! me! pick me! umm. Yes, so I wouldn't mind being in it. You know, if you need me and all.
  5. I was thinking that perhaps we could do a thread, in which the participants are divided up into teams. Perhaps, I should just be satisfied with this in debate but if it wouldn't be too complicated maybe it'd be an interesting activity to try?
  6. I was thinking that it would be nice if in the new forum we had a general discussion. We often discuss things irrlevant to the thread since there isn't another place to do so. Perhaps, if the thread was highly monitored it would work. It would just be nice to have a place to ask general questions.
  7. I think it would be nice if we could create new threads, but before they appeared and were opened for general discussion they were screened by the teachers, and edited if necessary. That would enable students to have a bit more say in what we discuss. Or, we could create a thread in which we make a schedule. For example every monday is new thread day. That way we would know when new threads came out, and we would have no need to request new topics because we'd know when they come out.
  9. Just thought I'd say this.. We're off school for 2 weeks or so, so that could explain the lack in posts and new topics. I agree that we need new topics, but we might have to wait a bit for them.
  10. Hey--come to think of it, you are right. I mean, I have no problem with the government banning human rights in the schools, after all they are government schools! Ok, so it sounds bad there but when you take it out of context of course it will. I said that SINCE France is a socalist republic then the government has control over certain things. That is one of the only reasons why I feel the government can do this, because they can. Now, I know that sounds a bit like circle-logic, but since the government has control over certain aspects of society, then they can govern them, no?
  11. In most cases school's have a dress code, now whether or not they enforce those codes is another matter. In all the schools that I've encountered students are not allowed to wear articles of clothing that would depict anything like nudity, violence, or drugs/alcohol. I think dog collars, and provocative images on clothing is slightly different from religious emblems. Since religious emblems carry a deeper meaning, while naked women and violence are merely images with the purpose of provoking a reaction. That's the difference, religious emblems are not designed to provoke a reaction while other images (nudity, violence) are designed with the intent of provoking a response (disgust, offense etc). I actually have no problem with the government banning religious emblems from school, afterall they are government schools. Not to mention France, if I'm correct is a socialist democracy, therefore the government has control over certain things ie. utilities (water, phone, electricity, schools). Like I said before, I believe that faith is inside and if not wearing a religious article deteriorates that faith then one seriously must re-examine their faith. The only issue I have with the banning of religious articles is the fact that it is targeted at the minorities. Predominantly the debate has been - head scarves, but in the debates they seem to almost forget about crosses, stars of david etc. This is probably where Mrs. Schuh-Fricke's question comes in, and why she asked it. Since, this seems to be targeted at the ethnic minorities and immigrants I think it's deeply unfair and since last year LePen won quite a majority in the elections and recently won 16% of the popular vote, which is quite a lot. Even though he didn't secure any regions, there is obviously a large population that agrees with him, and that is where I believe this debate came from. Another question, since they voted on it way back...what's happening with it then? Have government schools cracked down upon students wearing religious emblems? Or, does it have to go through beauracratical (sp.) paperwork and all that before? Sorry, I know I ask a lot of questions.
  12. Can't help but agree with that! Nice one! My position is, why deprive them of the choice of showing their faith through religious articles?
