Hello and happy new year!
I have posted about this resource before, but in the past two years a blog has been established.
http://hodges-model.blogspot.com/
In need of assistance (a banner for the blog) I have some arts and design projects I can put student's way...?
Also I would delighted to hear from anyone using the model.
Originally created in the UK by Brian E Hodges (Ret.) at Manchester Metropolitan University -
Hodges' Health Career - Care Domains - Model [h2cm]
http://www.p-jones.demon.co.uk/
- can help map health, social care and OTHER issues, problems and solutions. The
model takes a situated and multi-contextual view across four knowledge domains:
* Interpersonal;
* Sociological;
* Empirical;
* Political.
Our links pages cover each care (knowledge) domain e.g. INTERPERSONAL:
http://www.p-jones.demon.co.uk/links.htm
SOCIOLOGY:
http://www.p-jones.demon.co.uk/links3.htm
The blog includes a link to a 30 minute audio podcast.
A paper is due to be published this year in a book on 'Social Information
Technology...' discussing selected ideas of the French philosopher Michel Serres,
Hodges model and social informatics.
I am now working on a book chapter on socio-technical structures and Hodges model.
Thank you for your time and best wishes with your plans.

Hello
On first appearances people hearing of and checking on Hodges' model may think "Oh! another mind mapping 'tool'.
I've tried to highlight the profound difference and the need to research Hodges' model and other similar approaches (Wilber) on the blog:
I would appreciate any sources anyone can point me to that indicates at what age youngsters can use a conceptual framework like Hodges' model.
Or, if you could try to apply the model in a relevant class that would be excellent.
I can provide some advice, references and paper-based resources and would be interested in writing a brief paper if at all possible. Happy to collaborate regards lesson plans - this may be an appropriate exercise for a student teacher?
(Please find some background information below my signature and share this message with your colleagues).
The blog include a link to a 30 minute audio podcast.
Many thanks for your time.
Kind regards,
Peter Jones h2cmng at yahoo.co.uk

Hypocritical Green/Social Democrat
I joined the Ecology Party and Greenpeace in the late 1970s putting up fly posters. I've voted Labour, Liberal and Ecology / Green party whenever possible. Often thought about getting more involved at party level, but time, family ......
The state of transport is a real disappointment as political reality sinks in - "we'll produce a transport stategy" they said! I travelled to London yesterday by car at short notice - the cheapest rail ticket £89 one way Wigan-Euston.
I'm a hypocrit on two counts:
1. Greece for a holiday, but we do not fly every year.
2. PC is permanently on - SETI@Home
Results Received 10068
Your rank out of 5436301 total users is: 30978th place.
There is now more emphasis on global health and transport is key to this. We have surburban airports claiming international status? And India are not surprisingly opening their skies with crazy priced tickets. Now is the time to think personally about the UN, future World Government (Governance!). Political views need to be global, not just national.
I found time for some reading recently, The Age of Consent, George Monbiot; No Logo, Klein; A Bed for the Night, David Rieff (UN!); Roaring Nineties, Stiglitz. As ever need to read more!
A key task is to educate individual's on basic health (PSHE) people must take some (there's the politics of the matter) responsibility for their health status. Demographic trends are shaping more than population pyramids. I see a key to this to having a universal conceptual framework for self-reflection and group engagement, our problems demand new ways of sharing ideas, potentially supported by informatics.
A paper on this:
http://www.comminit.com/healthecomm/uploads/jones.pdf
The site below provides a framework - you may find the political links page relevant to your discussion and studies.
One ambition? To take the model to the World Social Forum.
Please consider health and social care for your future careers!
Best wishes
Peter Jones (an optimist!)

Hello,
If problems today require interdisciplinary solutions, then tomorrow effective transdisciplinary approaches will be crucial. This is not pie-in-the-sky theorizing. Health and social care are no longer the sole preserve of the clinic or waiting lounge. As the media has shown in diet and younger people, SARS, and AIDs; health is a national and international concern. The environment also begs with increasing urgency for our attention. We are all linked, interdependent: vulnerable. Policy makers recognise the need to engage with people politically and engender personal responsibility. Citizenship is crucial in health and the environment.
The scholastic 3Rs alone are no longer sufficient to equip youngsters for the challenges that lie ahead. Visual literacy and creative, critical and reflective skills are also needed. Is there a generic model that could be taught globally, a basis for a general studies curriculum? Is there a tool that possesses the additional desirable properties below? That is for you to decide…
* disarms yet empowers
* is simple yet complex
* local yet global
* applies to individuals and populations
* is neutral or activist
* is able to represent and disseminate
* engages and educates
* and transcends culture, politics, gender, beliefs and ethnicity.
The ubiquity of information provides the scope to not only think out of the box, but in it as well? More than ever health, the environment and democracy are like pearls threaded on a fine cord called quality of life. If informatics can help integrate the vision and information is the clasp that unifies, what tools do we have to handle this most delicate operation?
While not a panacea, Hodges’ Health Career – Care Domains – Model (h2cm) has enormous potential for clinicians, informaticians, policy makers and the public. Imagine if we all shared a common conceptual framework?

Hello,
In health and social care one of the key problems faced is the need to ensure:
* all care problems are identified,
* the person is viewed as a whole, not just as a diagnosis.
* care is planned from several perspectives: the patient, their carers, the practitioner, and service.
* those perspectives can all be represented.
Health and social care are no longer the sole preserve of the clinic or waiting lounge. As recent events have shown - diet and younger people, SARS, AIDS,... health is a National and International concern, the environment also begging for our attention. We are all so very linked, interdependent: vulnerable.
In the 21st Century it is not only health that needs tools to cope with complexity and conflict. The world desperately needs them too. A tool that:
* disarms yet empowers
* is simple yet complex
* local yet global
* applies to individuals and populations
* is neutral or activist
* is able to represent and disseminate
* engages and educates
* and transcends beliefs and borders...
Surely, no such framework exists?
While not a panacea in itself, I would like to present an idea to this community - whose time has surely come?
Developed in health and social care this tool has potential far beyond, given the complexity of the problems we now face.
