James Richards
Paul, In January of 1962, the French Secret Army Organization (SAO) had publically stated that Mattei had been "sentenced to death". The SAO had been involved with a previous assassination attempt by putting a screwdriver in one of the jet engines of his private plane. It was discovered in time. Also killed on that flight was William McHale who was the chief of Time magazine's Rome bureau. McHale was in the process of preparing a cover story. FWIW.
