Michael Hogan
The Perfect Place for Oswald's Ghost A new documentary about the man who assassinated President John F. Kennedy is set to screen at the very place where Lee Harvey Oswald spent his last moments of freedom. Sunday, November 18, 2007 By FilmStew Staff This year’s U.S. Thanksgiving holiday falls on a date that makes it somewhat bittersweet, at least for those familiar with their country’s history. It is the 44th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. But there’s an even stranger Kennedy confluence set to take place tomorrow in Dallas, the city where Kennedy was tragically shot. A new documentary, Oswald’s Ghost, will be screened for a sold out audience at the Texas Theater – the very place where Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested on that same fateful day in 1963. The Texas Theater closed in 1989 and went through a series of different ownerships, culminating with its purchase in 2001 by the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce’s non-profit arm. The tragedy of 9/11 hampered their immediate efforts to raise completion funds for the renovation of the theater into a community performing arts center, making tomorrow night’s tomorrow night’s screening the first event held there this decade. Oswald’s Ghost meanwhile is scheduled to open in limited release in New York City on November 30th. Those familiar with their country’s arcane trivia may be able to tell fellow diners at the Thursday Thanksgiving feast table the name of the two movies that made up the double bill that day that Oswald fled inside. They were Cry of Battle, a World War II drama starring Van Heflin, and the Audie Murphy narrated film War is Hell. http://www.filmstew.com/showArticle.aspx?ContentID=16647 http://www.kvue.com/news/state/stories/110....1d9d0a16a.html
