He once described a tackle as being so late it was posthumous. To the topic of racism - in defending allegations of racism Big Ron once said - paraphrasing here - "I'm not racist, I signed Cunningham, Regis and Moses, and let the 3 degrees sit anywhere on the bus". Totally tongue in cheek. Personally, I don't believe Ron is a racist and was sad to seem how he was treated - similarly Rodney Marsh, another insightful critic.
