JFK's U.S. Navy Identification card

Photo of card and commentary by U.S. Naval Institute:

Like all Navy veterans, #JFK was extremely proud of his service. He famously commanded PT 109 during WWII and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his heroics in the rescue of the crew. After being honorably discharged, JFK worked as a journalist for Hearst Newspapers and traveled with Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal to Germany in 1945 to cover the Potsdam Conference. They took the opportunity to tour Hitler's Reich Chancellery. Like the assassination of JFK, the circumstances of Forrestal's death in 1949 led to conspiracy theories concerning a cover-up.
