Evolution of the Presidential Limo since 1963: Protecting our Leaders

It may seem obvious now with hindsight, but having our leaders in open limousines is a huge security risk.  

However, I was fortunate enough to watch the French President, François Mitterrand, in a Paris parade in 1981.  He stood upright in an open limo, looking a little nervous.  I twisted the top off my soft drink to watch the parade and threw the cap on the ground. Almost immediately an undercover security agent angrily told me to pick it up. I stood motionless for the rest of the parade.  That's what Presidential security should be like...
