KATHMANDU, Apr 22 - In a bid to pacify the ongoing political agitation of five parties, King Gyanendra has begun political consultations with various party leaders Thursday. Highly placed sources said king has given audience to Pashupati Shamsher Rana, President of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Badri Mandal, the President of Sadbhawana Party and Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of Nepali Congress (Democratic) today evening. The sources said King is believed to have consulted with the leaders in connection with finding a concrete resolution to the ongoing political crisis in the country. USA for multi-party democracy in Nepal KATHMANDU, Apr 23 - The United States of America (USA) has urged Nepal to restore a multi-party democracy in the country Thursday. A press statement issued by the US State Department yesterday evening said, "The United States strongly supports restoration of a multi-party democracy in Nepal through the electoral process." The statement said Nepal's leaders, the King and its politicians need to set aside their differences and work together. The State Department's statement also warned that there could be no military resolution of the ongoing conflict. "Legitimate grievances of Nepalese people must be resolved through peaceful, political means." the statement read. The statement further appealed the Government and the military to establish and maintain an improved human rights record in order to earn the trust of Nepali people. Meanwhile, US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Affairs, Christina B Rocca has reiterated her country's position that preservation of Nepal's system of constitutional monarchy and multi-party democracy is key to defeating Maoist challenge. In her speech at the Centre for the Advanced Study of India in University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Rocca said, " The palace and the parties must unify urgently under an all-party government as the first step to restoring democracy and presenting a unified front against the terrorist insurgents."
