why does Price have a phone number ( RI 8-5611 ) the same as a building some blocks away from the post office?

why does Price have a phone number ( RI 8-5611 ) the same as a building some blocks away from the post office?

John, if I am not mistaken the TERMINAL ANNEX and the POST OFFICE are two names

for the same building, on the south side of Dealey Plaza. The Post Office was in the

ground floor, and the upper floors were offices.

Hi Jack, thank you. I didn't know about the floor differences in the PO. Any info on the building is good to come across. It's d&&n near impossible to find out anything about it. Understandabls as a federal building I suppose. In those days the central part of the building appears to have been a shaft possibly down to basement level. Presumably with fire escapes.

I was wondering about an office in Corrigan Tower and Price at the Annex apparently having same phone number. I don't know how numbers are done in those days in Dallas. It could be a mistake, or Price actually worked out of Corrigan Tower, but was stationed in the Annex. Or perhaps numbers in those days werre distributed in some way that explains it differently.

why does Price have a phone number ( RI 8-5611 ) the same as a building some blocks away from the post office?

My understanding is, that in 1963 and ending I know not when; some of the entities that appeared in the U.S. Government Local section in the Dallas Business Directory Phone Book, used what could be referred to as a 'generic' [i.e. main] number. In this case, the main number was RI 8-5611. So what you had was a single number that was used to contact a whole litany of various governmental agencies; City, State and even Federal. Ostensibly, a person would place the call, an operator would answer, and then the person would give them an extension and/or name to direct their call to.

Which is why you have different individuals throughout Downtown Dallas circa 1963 with 'the same phone number,' the salient point being, that in effect, the extension 'served as the phone number, in a sense.

I would think other Forum members, familiar with this might be able to elucidate further, and correct me if I am mistaken. Hope that helps.

Business Address 8th fl Corrigan Towers Leventhal last saw Ruby when he and his wife visited the Carousel Club around 1961, His WC testimony mentions re the above number "he never talked to Jack Ruby 'on this extension" he should have went into politics, he would have done well.

Jordan owned the Stoneleigh Hotel, Tower Terrace and Maple Terrace; apparently Andre Jitcoff and George DeMohrenschildt both resided for a time at Maple Terrace according to Paul Raigorodsky's WC Testimony; if I understand correctly.
