sorry to go back to the Wright Brothers and Kitty Hawk again but Australia, had an inventor involved with early flight too Lawrence Hargraves whose research into convex and concave surfaces giving greater lifting power allowed him to launch his flight on November 15 1894 which took him 16 feet above the ground. He had earlier flown an aircraft with flapping wings 35 yards in 1885. he died in 1915
