John Simkin
While researching the life of footballer, Wilf Mannion, I came across this 1948 report in the popular newspaper, the Daily Express: "All the fatuities about football being a team game and the team being greater that the individual were exploded sky-high by the performance of the England team at Belfast; exploded by the absence of one man - Wilfred Mannion." Why did the word "fatuities" disappear from the English language? I cannot remember reading the word over the last 25 years?
