I was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1952. I received my Bachelor of Music in composition (1975) and Master of Music in composition (1979) from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I was invited to join the faculty of the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada in 1979 where I co-founded the program in contemporary music.
