Tim Gratz
Is it possible to list, hopefully in chronological order, the numerous assassination attempts that Fidel Castro survived, most (but probably not all) supported or encouraged by the CIA, and who was involved? For instance, in some cases it was Rosselli working with a specific Cuban. I think some of the attempts were as early as 1959. Is there a comprehensive list somewhere? Thanks. John Simkin
The best account of these attempts can be found in Fabian Escalante’s book, CIA Covert Operations 1959-62: The Cuba Project, Ocean Press, 2004). Escalante was head of Cuba’s State Security Department (G-2) and the country’s foremost authority on assassination plots against Fidel Castro. You should also read the Secret 1967 CIA Inspector General’s Report on Plots to Assassinate Fidel Castro. It was published as CIA Targets Fidel by Ocean Press as CIA Targets Fidel in 1996. It includes a commentary by Fabian Escalante.
