Benjamin Cole
The first word in a 2017 article in Washington Post on the then-new JFK Record Act releases was...."aliens." Yes, "aliens." You can't make this stuff up. ---30--- WaPo 10/27/2017 JFK assassination conspiracy theories: The grassy knoll, Umbrella Man, LBJ and Ted Cruz’s dad "Aliens. Masons. The Mob. Body doubles. 'Umbrella man.' An inside job." ---30--- That is how the WaPo chose to set the stage. The WaPo article proceeds, "Long before there was 'fake news,' there was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the scores of conspiracy theories it ignited. One author estimated that conspiracy theorists have accused “42 groups, 82 assassins, and 214 people by name of being involved in the assassination.” According to a 2013 poll, no less than 62 percent of Americans believe there was a broader plot beyond just Lee Harvey Oswald on the sixth floor overlooking Dealey plaza in Dallas." ---30--- Here is how the WaPo treated the HSCA finding in 1979, that there had likely been a JFKA conspiracy: "Like the Warren Commission, the House (HSCA) investigation found no evidence of Soviet, Cuban or CIA involvement in Kennedy’s assassination. But the committee did conclude that there was 'probably' a conspiracy involving a second gunman on the now infamous “grassy knoll.” That conclusion has since been discredited, including by high-tech recreations, but the damage was done." ---30--- Yes, WaPo says the HSCA conclusion was discredited, but does not even bother to explain how, or if the discrediting itself was dubious. Of course, every crackpot JFKA theory is given a nod, including the Cruz-dad story. Has anything changed at the WaPo since 2017? Side note: The WaPo cites an article in the The Daily Beast, which JFKA researcher Dick Russell has outed as a CIA mouthpiece. The Daily Beast quotes everyone's fave JFKA researcher, the departed John McAdams.
