  1. Beauty The beautiful, the fair, the elegant, Is that which pleases us, says Kant, Without a thought of interest or advantage. I used to watch men when they spoke of beauty And measure their enthusiasm. One An old man, seeing a ( ) setting sun, Praised it ( ) a certain sense of duty To the calm evening and his time of life. I know another man that never says a Beauty But of a horse; ( ) Men seldom speak of beauty, beauty as such, Not even lovers think about it much. Women of course consider it for hours In mirrors; ( ) A shrapnel ball - Just where the wet skin glistened when he swam - Like a fully-opened sea-anemone. We both said 'What a beauty! What a beauty, lad' I knew that in that flower he saw a hope Of living on, and seeing again the roses of his home. Beauty is that which pleases and delights, Not bringing personal advantage - Kant. But later on I heard A canker worked into that crimson flower And that he sank with it And laid it with the anemones off Dover by Wilfred Owen
  2. Rupert Butler writes in his book, An Illustrated History of The Gestapo ,that after Heydrich's assassination, Karl Daluege (whom Heydrich despised) took his place, which I find a suspicious move as well as presenting Heydrich as a martyr and a perfect example of the Nazi ideals. IMO, given the oddities of the case, this might well have been a plot to strengthen the hatred against the Jews. http://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-History-...r/dp/0879388013
  3. People fear what they can't see. They fear what they can't predict and they fear what they don't know. Natural disasters are almost unforeseen , sudden events, which people have no control of. Therefore, in times like these, they tend to find a spiritual reason for it. They feel the need to explain what they can't understand. In a disaster as big as an earthquake or a tsunami, people generally seek inner haven and they choose to believe it is a punishment given by God because having the need for being kept under control and pay penalty for bad deeds are of human nature.
  4. Courtney, You might also be interested in Larry Hancock's online article series at the MFF website. http://www.maryferrell.org/wiki/index.php/...mbassador_Hotel There are lots of amazing details in the first two chapters. I'm hoping to find time to read chapter three today.

  8. I posted the below on another RFK Forum. It's amazing to read how the law enforcement officials try to put pressure on witnesses to change their stories. ----- I've found this youtube video where Sandra Serrano is being interviewed by Hernandez who is trying to convince her that she actually didn't see the girl in the polka dot dress. H- : Right, okay, here's the thing. You're an intelligent young girl. You know that for some reason this was made up. ... Don't shame his (RFK) death by keeping this thing up. S- : I-I seen those people! H- : No, no, no, no Sandy, remember what I told you about that. You can't say you saw something. S- : I know - but I seen them! ... H- : One of these days you're going to be a mother and you know you can't live a life of shame knowing what you're doing right now is wrong. S- : Well, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. H- : You know that this is wrong Sandy. S- : I remember seeing a girl! ... The whole interview can be found in Part 1 and 2 of RFK Assassination : The Girl In The Polka Dot Dress. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vjxBCVFj10...feature=related
  9. Thank you so much for the useful links. Reminds me of the time I failed the drama class because the professor didn't like my comments on Godot!
  10. Rock music has never been overtly political in the UK. This is probably based on the idea that people do not really listen to the words of these songs. Those with strong political views have tended to be attracted to folk music. There have been political implications to the development of rock music. In the 1960s I liked black music (blues, soul, jazz) from America. This was partly because of my interest in the struggle for black civil rights. I therefore refused to buy white cover versions of this music (Elvis Presley, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc). However, groups like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones helped to publicize the existence of this black music. I can remember John Lennon giving a radio interview where he raved about the music of the much neglected Arthur Alexander. Even after this publicity Alexander failed to sell many records but it did pave the way for other artists such as Marvin Gaye. Before the Beatles came along I had to buy records by records by Marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, Stevie Wonder from America. The same was true of the Beatles and other groups from this period. It is no coincidence that so many of these groups lived in Liverpool. Apparently, they used to get these black records from sailors returning from the States. In time the Beatles and the Rolling Stones developed their own unique style of song writing. However, they would be the first to admit that they relied heavily on the inspiration of those early black artists. One of the most beautiful covers I've ever heard is Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Muse. Matt Bellamy's incredibly passionate vocal makes the song better than the original version.
  11. Two great plays. Have you read his autobiography, Timebends? Great book. No, I haven't read it yet but I'm sure it's a great work. I've always loved plays and short stories. The ones I'll never forget are The Dark Room by Tennessee Williams, which I translated into Turkish for a literature journal in 2000, The Tell Tale Heart by Poe and One Man's Destiny by Sholokhov, the '65 Nobel Prize winner short story.

    Punk

It'll be a little off topic, sorry for that. I can't help but mention The Hives, the Swedish rock band who have a strongly influenced punk sound. I think they're one of the few good post-punk/garage rock bands. http://www.thehivesbroadcastingservice.com/
  13. Arthur Miller has always been one of the inspirational playwrights for me as well as Tennessee Williams, Eugene O'Neil, Harold Pinter, etc. Crucible and Death of A Salesman were the plays I loved studying the most in my university years.
  14. Like ships without anchors Wide is the ocean, no islands, no shores All is well, only This is such a lonely feeling to be lonely Fame is illusion Bright are the lights and you - You are left in confusion All is well, only This is such a lonely feeling This is such a lonely feeling Driving fast, as fast as I can Or sitting quietly on the windowsill You've got all and nothing Just put no more loneliness on my bill This is such a lonely feeling All songs should be happy Actors young and soap operas crappy Movies are x-rays Our destinies are choosing our ways And what should we do? To enjoy life the most Or hiding like ghosts? All is well, only This is such a lonely feeling This is such a lonely feeling Brainstorm - Lonely Feeling (To Be Lonely)
