  1. There probably is a better place for this, but I couldn't find THE Jack Ruby thread [Lee Farley There Can Be Only One].

At any rate, this is courtesy of one of Seth Kantor's Ruby books.....To me this poem is to Jack Ruby what

I Have A Rendezvous With Death is to John F. Kennedy....The fact that the poem was written 64 years before Jack Ruby shot Oswald, makes it even more interesting to me.

    Yesterday upon the stair
    I met a man who wasn’t there
    He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away

When I came home last night at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall
I couldn’t see him there at all!
Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door

Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn’t there
    He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away

    Robert:

I posted this not to show a photo of the ship, [who cares what it looked like?] but the accompanying

information and the mention of Liverpool, one of the elusive questions about this episode could be argued that the port the ship had been docked in before its arrival in Galveston, could provide some critical information rivaling the identity of the seaman. A copy of the Galveston newspapers for the pertinent dates, might provide some additional information.

  3. I would have to mention Robert F. Kennedy's remarks regarding the whole Hoover/Murchison relationship:

From pg.292 Robert Kennedy: In His Own Words - The Unpublished Recollections of the Kennedy Years.

KENNEDY: Bill Lambert, with whom I worked on the Rackets Committee, who was a reporter and got the Pulitzer Prize

out in Portland, Oregon, in 1957, works for Life Magazine now. He came across a fellow down in Florida now--

who used to be a clerk in a hotel out near the race track where Hoover goes to stay every month. When he left

in 1958-- he'd been there from '53 to '58 -- he took the records with him. They showed that up to that time --

and of course, Hoover has stayed there every year since then -- he stayed in a hundred-dollar-a-day suite

and that the bill at the end of each month was picked up and paid for by the Murchisons.

    MARTIN: Really?

KENNEDY: The total for that five-year period was, I think, something like eighty-five hundred dollars--

    which I thought was interesting.

  4. I believe this is one of the most critical of all the unresolved areas. I would only say, resolution of these matters is usually not so black and white. For instance there are a few men in the documents who were merchant seaman, and some are not obscure. Take Horace Twiford.....The best sources on this area of Cherami and the drug transaction, would probably be Peter Brewton The Mafia, the CIA & George Bush page 120, others Probe Magazine, Douglas Valentine and Jim Douglas....My apologies for getting the Silver Spur & Silver Slipper mixed up.....

  5. Bill, I think you bring up a lot of points in your Who Framed Ozzie Rabbit, post, and I am really just trying to make a point that I don't believe is commonly known. The Magic Bullet has always been a weak link, not to mention the bullet was not in any legal sense proven to have come from Gov. Connally's gurney. But that is getting off the point. What I find as another weakness in the case against Oswald, is that the bullet fragment that struck James Tague did not come from a copper jacketed bullet, as opposed to the other bullets that found their target. If anyone believes I am mistaken, even the WC documents attest to this.

Even in Dallas, Texas, television station WFAA-TV recently aired a one-hour program entitled The Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald, in which the fictional account made this very point. Incidentally the results by the mock jury were 9-3 in favor of Lee Oswald's acquittal. The other surprising aspect of the television program, was that the actor who portrayed Lee Oswald, looked like a normal person, instead of someone who looked like they stuck their finger in a light socket.

    Cheers

  6. Commission Document 176 - FBI O'Flaherty Report of 13 Dec 1963 NEW YORK 38 pages re: Oswald
We escorted Mr. Oswald to the Western Union Office 428 Broadway,
who issued $150 and gave client a check made out for $50 to be
cashed at the 1st National Bank on Broadway and Canal. We then
escorted client to the 1st National Bank, where after first being
told that they could not cash the check eventually agreed at the bank manager’s

insistence that they could cash it. Client was issued $50
Robert: In addition to Spas Raikan, and Oswald there was an INS Inspector named Frederick J. Weiderschein, who is also in the mix. WEIDERSCHEIN is for myself, equally compelling as Spas Raikan, because of the fact there does not seem to be much about him.....

on the World Wide Web, unless I have lost my search skills, and don't know it....

    post-3174-0-97798900-1374246463_thumb.jpg

Equally important is CE 1444 page 860, which also references the Travelers Aid Society meeting with Oswald

    https://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=1317&relPageId=890

I would like to know if this account as described, was an acting job [ie the manner Oswald is treated by parties involved at the Travelers Aid gathering] as some sort of sewer rat, or if they had rehearsed this encounter, much had been made in the media that Oswald had offered secrets to the Soviets, [never proven] but had never taken the final step to renouncing his citizenship.......

  7. If you liked the dynamics presented in the CCF, you might find Margaret Drabble's bio of Angus Wilson interesting.

Presented on pages 318-322; Without writing a bio of Angus Wilson, he had been the connect in an earlier post I had made regarding the latter meeting with Clay Shaw around the time the Garrison trial was gathering steam.

In August 1963, Angus Wilson, Jean Paul Sartre, Simon de Beauvoir, as part of a contingent of the European Community of Writers, (ie known as C.O.M.E.S. formed in 1958 by Italian writer Jean-Baptiste Angioletti;) for a conference, which took place in Leningrad and later Moscow; At least England, Germany, France, and Italy & probably other European countries were on hand.

Sir Angus Frank Johnstone Wilson, John Lehmann*, Jean Paul Sartre, Simon de Beauvoir and several others were invited to visit Nikita Khrushchev in his villa at Pitsunda in Georgia on the Black Sea. In contemporary terms Angus Wilson was an iconic writer as well as a member of the LBGT community.

The British contingent, Drabble writes, "flew to Hamburg and Helsinki, changing places twice."

She also points out that ".....The final press conference in Moscow, on Friday 9 August, took place as a nuclear test ban

treaty was being signed in the same city by the Americans, the British and the Russians."

Wilson was also at Bletchley Park during World War II, and was acquainted with Ann Fleming, the widow of Ian Fleming.

    August 13, 1964
    Ian Fleming
    James Bond's Creator Dies
    CANTERBURY, England (AP)
-Ian Fleming, the novelist who found his way
to a mint of royalties by sending Operative
007 through a labyrinthe of intrigue,
died Wednesday of a heart attack. He was 56.
Stricken Tuesday night, the author, ex-journalist
and World War II intelligence agent
succumbed in the Kent and Canterbury
Hospital. With him went his creation,
Secret Agent James Bond - 007
    in British intelligence. That number
ranked Bond fictionally as a man
with the right to kill an enemy
No man in official life ever has conceded
that such a man exists in modern spyfare.
Fleming suffered a coronary thrombosis in 1961.
He was a chain smoker and a chain worker
His James Bond novels “Dr. No,” “From
    Russia With Love” and “Goldfinger”
have been made into movies. Sales of 007’s
adventures are in the millions throughout the world.
    Peter Jansen-Smith, his agent,
estimated Fleming made more than $2, 800,000
from his books and films about James Bond
    since 1953.
Fleming’s own life is reflected in the character of 007.
The author was a British intelligence officer with the rank
of naval commander. So is Bond. He attended Eton College
and Sandhurst, Britain’s West Point. Bond is educated
similarly. His recreations included skin diving, spear
fishing and cards. Bond has skin dived in several of his
battles against Communist agents, and in “Casino Royale”
cracked a mystery by slick card dealing at chemin de fer
The writer differed from Bond in one respect
he married Anne Geraldine, the former Lady Rothermere,
in 1952. She was divorced from Lord Rothmere,
the British newspaper baron, Bond for all his love affairs,
    remains unattached.
In the book, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,”
married the daughter of the leader of a French
crime syndicate, but she was killed right after the wedding
in an attack by bad guys on Bond’s car.
Fleming’s latest book to hit the screen was “Goldfinger”
a story in which Bond breaks up an attempt
by Russian agents to loot Fort Knox.

Most JFK Researchers worth their salt, know about Oswald, microdots and Questioning Eyes, the Russian sentence
NSA's Blake searched for cryptographic significance. However, there is another connection that, 50 years later
would jolt even the most jaded of the former, at least it did for me.
The GHCQ at Bletchley Park was a very large part of the topic of Margaret Drabble's 1995 biography of Angus Wilson
    [iSBN 0 - 312- 14276 -5].
I, as a favor to myself and to look into the credibility of Anthony Frewin [am told is a pseudonym]
he wrote circa 1991-92; LATE-BREAKING NEWS ON CLAY SHAW'S UNITED KINGDOM CONTACTS
had familiarized myself with his allegation that Drabble's, then to be released book on Wilson, that Clay Shaw
was connected to elite members of British society, Drabble's book does contain a passage which expounds on Angus Wilson's trip to the US in the era of the Shaw trial, Prewin seemingly does know of what he speaks, at least about Shaw's UK connections. Recently as part of a side project I have been working on, as a supplement to my JFK assassination research, I was perusing a couple of Warren Commission documents that detailed Lady Jeanne Campbell's "research" into the assassination, Campbell worked in Dallas with JFK researcher Jones Harris, according to Edith Whitworth see Oswald at the Furniture Mart, Campbell referred to herself as a "White House correspondent," and Campbell was the daughter of the roguish Ian Campbell, the 11th duke of Argyll, and the favorite granddaughter of the multimillionaire William Maxwell Aitken, Lord Beaverbrook, one of the most powerful press barons in Britain. Acting was her passion, but Beaverbrook, a Presbyterian with certain strict ideas, dissuaded her from making it a career. Instead, she moved to America, where she became a correspondent for The Evening Standard. (Covering Kennedy’s funeral, she wrote that Jackie Kennedy had “given the American people from this day on the one thing they always lacked — majesty.”) In her late 20s she had a passionate five-year love affair with the much older Henry R. Luce, founder of Time and Life; the affair ended in 1961 when Jeannie met, and subsequently married, Norman Mailer.
Robert: When you consider Oswald's perusal of Ian Fleming's novels it is rather obvious there are still a lot of
unanswered questions regarding his universe or circle of persons in 1963 and before, however much of whether any of this important is arguably contingent on a persons belief that Oswald de facto assassinated JFK, which I am not among that circle.

Other persons at Bletchley Park or in England involved in codebreaking during WWII were William P. Bundy, & John Cairncross,

The Soviet documents forwarded to this Agency under your letter of 20 May 1964 provide some additional detail on OSWALD. The information in these documents parallels
that already provided from other sources and does not contradict our previous information. The documents do clarify somewhat OSWALD’s alleged occupation at the Minsk radio

Question to Forum Members....Have you ever seen a photo of Spas Raikan? see URL below

Warren Commission Document 1241 - FBI Connally Jr. Report of 29 Jun 1964 NEWARK 4 pages re: Oswald - Russia/Cuba
SPAS THEODORE RAIKAN, employed Traveler’s Aid, NYC on 6/13/62 assisted OSWALD and his family........
Oswald’s Bulgarian Connection: The Spas Raikin Papers
Spas Raikin as a student in Bulgaria in 1946, during a summer job building a railway line. Such “volunteer” labor was compulsory for university students in communist Bulgaria.
    http://www.hoover.org/library-and-archives/acquisitions/105816
The Hoover Archives has received the papers of Spas Raikin, a Bulgarian-American historian, and émigré anti-communist activist. Raikin, who will celebrate his ninetieth birthday later this year, was for several decades a professor at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and is the author of some twenty books on Bulgarian history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His papers, contained in ninety-nine binders, document Raikin’s historical research and writing as well as Bulgarian émigré activities in the United States. Binder nr. 71, however, is different from the others. It documents an episode in Raikin’s life that has a place in world history: his meeting with Lee Harvey Oswald in the port at Hoboken, New Jersey on June 13, 1962, when Oswald was returning from the Soviet Union.
Spas Raikin, born to a poor peasant family, herded cows and sheep until he was admitted to the Plovdiv Theological Seminary. He graduated with honors and went on to study in the School of Theology in Sofia University and teach in the Sofia Theological Seminary. Once the Bulgarian Communists had solidified their power, they intensified their religious persecution, drafting Raikin into the army, where he served his time in a military labor camp. In 1951, he and several of his friends escaped from the camp and formed a partisan group in the Rhodope Mountains in southern Bulgaria. Evading the Communists, they managed to cross into Greece, where he received a scholarship from the World Council of Churches to study theology at the University of Athens. He went on to study at the universities in Geneva, Basel, and King’s College in London, finally taking a graduate degree in political science at Columbia University in New York. In New York, Raikin became a social worker who helped resettle Bulgarian refugees in the United States under a State Department Program, as well as a staff member in the Travelers Aid Society. It was in that capacity that he was directed to meet Lee Harvey Oswald upon his return from Russia. Raikin found a hotel room for Oswald, his wife, and baby, and handed him a check, that paid for their move to Forth Worth, Texas. His account of this event is in the Warren Commission Report and is discussed in dozens of works on the Kennedy assassination. Binder 71 of the Raikin Papers includes copies of documents, notes, and clippings on the event and its aftermath.
Spas Raikin’s academic career was mostly with the East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, where he taught from 1966 until his retirement in 1991. He published some twenty books on Bulgarian history, politics, and culture from the late nineteenth century into the twentieth.. He was also active in Bulgarian and East European anticommunist exile organizations. Professor Raikin’s productive and eventful life and research are documented in his voluminous papers in the Hoover Archives. Along with the even larger Kyril Drenikoff Papers, acquired by Hoover a generation earlier, they will be a valuable resource for scholars of Bulgarian history and politics in the twentieth century.

    I thought it was interesting.....

  11. Speaking of Murdoch, it is one of the more ironic aspects of American culture in 2013, that the denizens in the Republican Party and the Tea-Party view the FOX News Network as the infallible counterpoint to MSNBC, the latter being, to many if not most Democrats in solidarity with the latter.

Apparently having a Murdoch owned network admittedly, programmed from "on-high" replete with a slew of inaccuracies and scandals and conspiracy theories that make me blush [see shakeup regarding Murdoch media bugging the Royal's] presents no problems to a party that prides itself on patriotism, wrapping yourself in the American flag, and hurling anathemas at your ideological enemies.

I suppose I understand the paranoia about Obama, from the right and the left. The thing I notice is how little the demographics in America are mentioned re pre-9-11 and post 9-11 America. When Obama became President the WASP demographic continued to slip away from its dominant position in America numerically and historically. There would be no tolerance for the garbage that spews from FOX and the strident RW national talk-radio wackos, if there wasn't a fearful, aged WASP populace willing to lap up every morsel of alleged conspiracy. Truth, as the adage goes........Why Let the Truth Stand in the Way of a Good Story.

And I can tolerate DeCaprio a hell of a lot more than I can Tom Hanks, although the latter is contingent on his going through w/his Warren Commission cable TV swill.

  12. The following probably contains a factoid not known to most persons......

    Small world, eh.......

Attorney Elmer Gertz Dies At 93
April 27, 2000|By Jill Blackman and Lisa B. Song, Tribune Staff Writers. Tribune files contributed to this report.
Elmer Gertz, a highly respected Chicago trial attorney, died this morning at age 93.
"In spite of his age, he always looked to the future," said Mr. Gertz's daughter, Margery Hechtman. She said, "I think part of the reason he lived so long was because, he said to me not so long ago, 'I have no malice.'"
Hechtman said her father never harbored resentment or anger and was incredibly adaptable.
"He loved to talk about himself, but he was a very humble man with the purest values," she said.
Mr. Gertz's whole life was characterized by his courage and his willingness to stand up for what he believed in, said his son, Ted Gertz. He described his father as devoted to his family.
"Nothing gave him pleasure like his children and grandchildren," he said. "No matter how prominent he became or how much success he had, that (his family) was by far his real priority."
Mr. Gertz's mother died when he was 8 years old, Ted Gertz said, and Mr. Gertz and his two youngest brothers were put in an orphanage. "The three of them maintained this relationship that was just incredible," he said. "I think his values were shaped at that time."
John Marshall Law School Professor Ann Lousin, who worked with Mr. Gertz for 30 years, said, "He was a remarkable person and he truly had a passion for justice -- it was really amazing. He realized what one lawyer could do by taking on popular causes such as anti-censorship issues."
She said he retired from teaching full time at the law school in 1976, when he turned 70, but since then has taught a seminar every fall semester, including last year, on either the 1st Amendment or civil rights.
U.S. Sen. Paul Simon once praised Mr. Gertz for "standing like the Rock of Gibraltar on behalf of civil rights and civil liberties."
Mr. Gertz, who practiced law for nearly 70 years, was a participant in several of the nation's more famous cases.
In 1958, he secured the parole of Nathan Leopold, of the 1924 Leopold-Loeb thrill killing of 14-year-old Bobby Franks. He gained full freedom for Leopold in 1963.
The Leopold and Loeb case may have been the first 20th Century murder to have been labeled the "Crime of the Century." In 1924, Leopold, 19, and Richard Loeb, 18, both University of Chicago graduate students, thought it would be exciting to commit the "perfect" murder.
On May 21, the two kidnapped Franks. The next day Frank's naked body was found near in a ditch near the Illinois-Indiana border. Leopold and Loeb confessed to the slaying on May 31. Famed attorney Clarence Darrow persuaded a judge to spare their lives. Loeb was murdered in prison. Leopold died of natural causes in 1971.
Mr. Gertz once related that he got involved in that case because "Leopold's oldest brother was a member of a group I helped found, the Civil War Round Table."
Mr. Gertz also was successful in gaining the overturn of the conviction in Dallas of former Chicagoan Jack Ruby, who had been sentenced to death for the killing of Lee Harvey Oswald after the assassination of President John Kennedy. But Mr. Gertz said he "never got paid" for his defense of Ruby, who died of natural causes while in jail in 1967 before his retrial.
Mr. Gertz also is known for fighting cases involving obscenity, including helping Henry Miller with "Tropic of Cancer."
In 1983, the U.S. Supreme Court let stand a lower-court award to Mr. Gertz, made after American Opinion magazine, an organ of the John Birch Society, called Mr. Gertz "a communist fronter" involved in a conspiracy to undermine police.
"This was at a time when I was public relations director for the Illinois Police Association," scoffed Mr. Gertz, who sued for libel, asked for $1 million and got $500,000.
Mr. Gertz, a Democrat, was quoted as saying, "I ran for office only once -- for the Illinois Constitutional Convention (of 1970). I was chairman of the Bill of Rights Committee. We all worked together in those days -- Democrats and Republicans."
Mr. Gertz, also was a founding member of the Auditorium Theatre Council.
"He's been a great spirit here since 1960," said Auditorium Theatre Council Executive Director Jan Kallish. "He believed in the importance of the Auditorium Theatre both architecturally and culturally. He was a great friend and we're going to miss him terribly."
Gertz was the author of more than 20 books, including his autobiography, "To Life;" "Moment of Madness" on the Ruby case; and "For the First Hours of Tomorrow" on the Illinois Bill of Rights.
In a review of "To Life," which was published in 1974, Willard J. Lassers wrote:
"After finishing the book, I realized that it is not the cases or the events that are of ultimate significance, but the life itself."
Mr. Gertz's second wife, Mamie, a retired teacher and community activist, died in 1998. His first wife, Ceretta, died in 1958.

  13. I would seriously suggest that upon closer inspection, the infamous Harvey and Lee photograph might not be the product of CIA magic photo doctoring, that has fragmented the research community till, well this very day, I believe this particular photo at the very least shows that the ball is not in Greg Parker's court.

Does anyone have the chutzpah to say it? After closely examining the photo, the idea of a HARVEY face on one side and a LEE face on the other side in a single exposure seems a lot more iffy.

It looks like the dynamic is nothing but a damn stain on the photograph......

  15. I started to post this on the Clay Shaw thread, but felt pointing out the importance of North Carolina in the context of the JFK assassination was a bit more appropriate. Would like to know the source for mary ferrell's chronologies stating that Clay Shaw was linked to North Carolina in the early 1920's. The obvious question is who were his acquaintances there, and were these relationships active or dormant in 1963.

    Reflections on JFK’s Assassination: 250 Famous Americans Remember November 22, 1963 - Edited by John B. Jovich - Woodbine House - 1988

    page 102,

    Charles S. Robb

I was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, serving as an aide-de-camp to the Commanding General of the Second Marine Division.

The General and I were just boarding his helicopter at the rifle range for a flight back to Division Headquarters when the pilots informed us that President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas and was being rushed to the hospital. We both had the same shock and disbelief shared by all American’s when we first heard the news. I asked the pilots to patch us in to a civilian radio frequency on the headsets and we listened quietly on the flight back. When we got back to our offices, I obtained a portable radio to try to find out how the President was doing and when it was reported that President Kennedy was dead, I walked in to the General’s office and gave him the sad news. Neither of us said a word thereafter. Like most American’s we then spent the next few days glued to our television sets trying to make sense or come to grips with the tremendous loss all of us felt.

I’m not sure that I tried immediately to assess the impact President Kennedy’s death would have on the nation. I did think about our potential vulnerability in terms of national defense, but for the most part Ithought about and prayed for the Kennedy family as well as the man I had no way of knowing would one day become my father-in-law.

    Sincerely,

    Charles S. Robb

Somewhere on the Forum, I had posted a link to the Subcommittee

Investigating the Fair Play for Cuba committee ie, racial disturbance

which occurred in Monroe, N.C., but there wasn't much of a reaction.

For those who still believe that everything regarding the prelude of activity

to the JFK assassination hasn't been determined, ignoring the

various activity in North Carolina would be illogical, unless one is satisfied

with a minimalist understanding of the event.

  16. To Robert Morrow, I suppose it is becoming increasingly obvious I have the most ancient computer here on the Forum....

I also have that same first page you posted, I used to have a subscription to Newspaper Archive, which is indispensable from a researchers point of view, but they started raising their prices, and I am on a very limited budget.

I was hoping to avoid this but the problem for me is the page obviously shows up but nothing I have can allow me to look at it in a zoom setting, so if you zoom the page [on my computer] the effect is like looking at a page of an encyclopedia in book form about four feet away; obviously not very productive......

What little I could glean is below, I cannot even state that this is going anywhere, but I spent about four hours yesterday going through newspaper obituaries from the Dallas Morning News from the same time frame, and did not find anything regarding deaths that linked to New Orleans related stories......

  17. After reading the first 100 or so pages of the updated Destiny Betrayed, and the thoughts it has generated, my attention has been focused on the date September 19, 1963. The argument could be made that the date in question marked, depending on your understanding of just how conclusive and understanding of the credibility of Richard Case Nagell, the death of the ultimate disappearing witness.

That was the day that the "Leon Oswald" who was in New Orleans was eliminated.

    See below

According to the 2nd Edition of The Man Who Knew Too Much

the “Leon Oswald” who was at the Russo/Shaw/Ferrie/Oswald

meeting that is so controversial was “eliminated” on September 19, 1963.

Note: Russell points out that the Leon Oswald who was at the Odio’s

circa September 25, 1963 was therefore another Leon Oswald...

between the lines implication: he has to be another Leon Oswald

since one Leon Oswald was terminated on Thursday September 19, 1963.

Although my gut feeling is that if Russell is correct, the odds are favorable this person

would certainly not be mentioned in a newspaper article, as the smart or devious

way to keep this under wraps would be to kill him and dump his body in Lake Ponchartrain

or some swamp. On the other hand, there is no excuse for assuming that to be the case.

Dotting the "i" and crossing the "t" would seem to be well worth the time to scour

various New Orleans area newspapers Sept 19-20, 1963, such as The New Orleans Times

Picayune or a paper like the one I listed below, to see if anything lands on the radar.

    Example:

Ruston Daily Leader September 19, 1963

Does anyone have access to posting an image of page 1, of this edition

    of the Rustin Daily Leader?

    Any interest? There should be.

  18. I do know one thing, common sense would dictate that if the fire or explosion at the JFK Library was connected to the bombing at the Boston Marathon, the Aryan Brotherhood or a like minded organization or individual, would be an area of keen interest, to say the least. I was already thinking along those lines just by virtue of the fact that Boston isn't exactly a conservative bastion, toss in the fact that Al-Qaeda generally knows how to do bombings on a massive scale by virtue of their own past history, it's hard for me to believe they would be behind a bombing in the United States that has killed two people so far.

  19. I had no doubt that at some point, since it involves to a great degree the "official version" of events in Dealey Plaza, that somewhere this other bell near "Old Red," had been discussed at length. I was right

    See

    http://www.jfkassass...pic=4847.0;wap2

The subject was also broached in an old google groups thread, where persons quoting a Gary Mack response regarding the Fox News program, where Gary stated that on the one year anniversary of the assassination [1964] a bell could be heard during a commemoration ceremony, Steve Barber [i am not certain this is the rock drummer referenced in an earlier post, but I would think

it was. At any rate, Barber jumped all over that thread saying GM knew this wasn't true, citing an IBM analysis, which apparently stated there was no possibility the sound was a bell; [personally considering IBM, I cannot consider them to be honest about anything relating to the assassination in any way; [another topic] Ostensibly the bell was not on top of "Old Red," per se, but was near the South-East corner of Old Red removed circa 1969. So, that is my understanding of it personally I still think the Mercantile Building Bell, should not get sidetracked on this thread. Although everyone is entitled to their own viewpoint. I apologize if my account of the information, cited is inaccurate. The IBM Report was listed on the google groups post as an old AOL, post, I clicked on it, and it went to a AOL Login, which I declined to attempt. AOL in general, has been a real Pain In The A....in my experiences, so someone more daring will have to attempt that. Apologies

  20. Although the fact that the HSCA Acoustic Study of the Dictabelt recording and its analysis of a "probability" of a 2nd Gunman, was attacked and "refuted," depending on ones ability to understand

how politics can also be immersed into the arena of science, there is one aspect of the whole conundrum that, I personally have never seen addressed. In retrospect, if one looks at the circumstances of the HSCA accoustics test, and the subsequent audio experts and laypeople, such as

rock drummer Steve Barber and the Gallery magazine flexidisk which became part of the story,

one might say, if the event had taken place in a courtroom, and there had been a verdict, it would have

been a mistrial. Suffice to say, the issue of Oswald as lone gunman, and whether there was a second gunman was the prize that awaited whoever prevailed, and consensus of that issue, at least as far as

the American public were concerned, I believe it would not be inaccurate to say, that the "fact that there was a second gunman," was not definitively resolved in favor of the probability of a second gunman. As in other areas of the assassination legacy, the determination invariably falls upon which side you tend to believe.

Although this is not hardly a determining factor, to say it would be worth pointing out, would, in my mind be a no-brainer, the issue of the carillon bell, or, the lack of one in the vicinity of Dealey Plaza

was definitely an issue that was not on the side of those who saw the basic fact that Decker's voice

and his comments had to have been from the events of November 22, 1963, irrespective of whether

the dictabelt was from McLain's motorcycle or another source, and hence, its validity.

My point has to do with, what I believe, were some built in hedging in the phrasing to the HSCA Accoustic Report itself, which confronted with later events, such as the counterattack mounted

by members of the scientific community, which seemed "agenda-driven," as much as "seeking

    the truth."

Having said all of this, one portion of the HSCA Audio Analysis of the Dictabelt states:

    6.1 Bell

The toll of a bell can be heard faintly at about 152.5 sec. It was hoped

that the location of the bell, and therefore of the radio transmitter could be

obtained by acoustically identifying the bell....Careful investigation

by the committee staff did not discover any such bell within earshot of Dealey Plaza

During the acoustical reconstruction tests in Dealey Plaza locomotive bells were recorded

and subsequently analyzed These sounds bore no similarity to the carillon-like sounds of the

original recording We concluded that the bell sound on the Channel 1 tape recording

must contain sounds from at least one transmitter not in Dealey Plaza at a time near 152.5 sec.

    HSCA Report, Volume VIII

Current Section: 6. Additional Relevant Sounds on the DPD Channel 1 Tape

    https://www.maryferr...absPageId=79098

Robert: The phrase "Careful investigation by the committee staff did not discover any such bell

within earshot of Dealey Plaza," seems to be ambiguous as to whether the investigation was simply

investigating whether there was a bell within earshot of Dealey Plaza at the time the recreation was being performed, circa 1979, or, if the investigation explored whether there was any attempt to discover if there was a bell tower in 1963.

Moving on, I attempted to ascertain if there was a bell tower of a church or a office building near downtown Dallas in 1963, and discovered, that by George, the answer was far from negative.

I would also preface my comments by saying that theoretically the HSCA did not say that

if the sounding bell was not a carillon bell, then the tape was irrelevant. It stated:

The toll of a bell can be heard faintly at about 152.5 sec. It was hoped that the location of the bell, and therefore of the radio transmitter could be obtained by acoustically identifying the bell. The energy spectrum of the 1/3 sec segment containing the bell sound is shown in Fig 2.3.

Several peaks evident in the spectrum are harmonically related. The fundamental frequency of this series of spectral peaks is 210 Hz. The spectral peaks are marked according to the normal nomenclature used to describe overtones of a carillon bell. The fundamental tone is called the

hum note. The second harmonic, called the strike note, is at the nominal pitch of the bell, in this case

420 Hz. The third harmonic is a fifth above the strike note. Higher harmonics are strong at 1050 Hz

and 1470 Hz. The minor third above the strike note is strong, this fact is characteristic of carillon bells.

    https://www.maryferr...1&relPageId=114

Robert: So having gone through this laborious process, we turn toward information regarding bell sounds near Dealey Plaza.

The July 4, 1963 issue of the Dallas Morning News contained an article entitled.

Parades, Bells, Picnics: Its Grand Old Fourth, which contained the following excerpt:

...following the downtown parade Atty. Gen Waggoner Carr will

speak on “Freedom In Our Time” at the American Independence Day Rally

at the Dallas Memorial Auditorium Theater. Carr will be introduced by

Robert I. Thornton, Sr., former mayor of Dallas. Mayor Earle Cabell

will present an Americanism award at the rally. At noon the Mercantile

National Bank will join with several churches in ringing bells in support

of the national “Let Freedom Ring” campaign.

Would the address 1700 Main Street, which is where the Mercantile National Bank was located in 1963, be within earshot of Dealey Plaza?

I suggest anyone interested in this avenue go to google maps find out for themselves. The obvious fact the article is from almost a full five months before November 22, 1963, based on the law of probability is in, at least my mind, favorable that is was more likely functioning than it was not functioning, that day.

The fact, or the determination of whether the Mercantile National Bank housed a carillon bell, does not appear, at first glance to be likely, but neither is is a known fact it wasn't. Pardon my saying so,

but I would not assume that if it wasn't a carillon bell that the bell at 1700 Main Street is irrelevant to the story.

  21. I know one topic which both myself and Thomas would like to know, which concerns the persons in the area which walk from in front of the Terminal Annex and cross the street as the group of witnesses rush towards the knoll, ie the gif image Thomas posted of the little 360 degree turn the person makes where the three are all wearing fedora hats. Turns out one or two of them was at some point in the company of Secret Service agent John Joe Howlett, I am a little disappointed some 50 years later, they haven't been ID. I saw the footage on one of the "Oswald did do it," shows coming out of the wood work, JFK - The Lost Bullet,

it's a pretty nauseating spectacle where Max Holland trots out his the first shot missed before JFK reaches for his throat, using the Dorman film as his proof, and her comment "I turned my camera off after the first shot," although he admits its a theory. It is your basic there are no researchers only statements such as "has inspired ridicule by conspiracy theorists," dribble going so far as showing Arlen Spector looking normal, contrasted with who I am sure is Mark Lane. The footage of Lane, I don't know where they got it but his eyes are looking directly at the camera and he literally looks like his eyes are about to pop out of his head, I mean his hair might as well be on fire, for the effect it has of depicting a "conspiracy buff." Wonderful world we live in where proponents of the "Oswald killed JFK" with a rifle known as "The Humanitarian rifle" where they work together basically reserving Dealey Plaza for their re-creation replete with former Secret Service agents to pitch in to help. More on the 6.5 Mannlicher-Carcano, when they did the recreation the rifle was such a rickety piece of crap, they had to put shin-splints on it just to perform the re-creation, and yet we are told to believe Oswald picked out this "rifle" to kill the POTUS, not to mention Curry's comment "we could never put him on the sixth floor with that rifle." But we're the conspiracy theorists......lol.

  22. Although it is not my claim to know when all this began, but for a reference point this first document isn't a bad beginning, reminding that the later documents in this post are right at the time of the JFK

    assassination.

    CIA HISTORICAL. REVIEW PROGRAM FULL

31 July 1963 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD 'SUBJECT Manuel VEGA Perez

    1. During the meeting held 11 July 1963 between Oliver FORTSON (P) and AMRIFT in Mexico City, the latter endeavored to persuade FORTSON to accept Manuel VEGA Perez as his replacement in the “operation.”

FORTSON refused saying that VEGA is a known Cuban IS officer by every cop on the beat in Mexico City and that furthermore some of the people being paid by VEGA are also being paid by other (unspecified) parties. AMRIFT was told that he, on the other hand was intelligent and was not suspected by the Mexicans of being in the intelligence business. AMRIFT was pleased with this presentation and did not pursue the matter of VEGA further.

    2. Following this meeting a letter was written to AMRIFT allegedly from FORTSON’s superior. The letter contained greetings to AMRIFT by name in the body of the text, reiterated the point about VEGA, though it referred to him only as “fatty.” It is thought that AMRIFT might have taken this letter back to Havana with him when he traveled late in July 1963 to show as proof that he was reporting what FORTSON had said about VEGA.

    3. It would appear that the blasting being given VEGA by FORTSON could easily reflect badly on VEGA, for he is shown to be both notorious and inept. It is therefore possible that sometime in the near future VEGA may be vulnerable to a pitch.

    4. It is requested that no action be taken without the consultation of the AMROD case officer.

    DISPATCH RE (DELETION) OPERATION.

TO: Chief Of Station Mexico City

    TYPIC [REDACTED Operation

1.Upon arriving at Mexico City Station [Thomas G. URQUHART] repacked

the envelope for the 6th pass adding materials agreed upon at headquarters

and saving out other less important items to use in later passes.

    2. In order to comply with the [“AMRIFT”] instructions of their letter

mailed 29 October 1963 [uRQUHART] and [GERENDE] make a phone call on

12 November 1963 to the telephone designated in that letter asking for [AMSPOON]

[GERENDE] was told he was out of Mexico, [in PBRUMEN] and it was not known

when or if he would return.

    3. [GERENDE] checked the correct amount of postage that would be required on a

special delivery letter. It was found to be 2.40 pesos postage and 50 cents

special delivery stamp for 100 grams.

    4. At 1100 hours on 15 November 1963 [uRQUHART] mailed the 6th pass

at the special delivery chute at the main post office. Five minutes later the enve-

lope had been absorbed for better or worse into the Mexico mail system. At the

same time [GERENDE] dispatched a telegram, text attached to notify [AMSPOON]

and associates that something was coming there way special delivery

    5. The attached letter was then sent to [sCANTLING] for translation and mailing

through ordinary channels to [AMSPOON] and associate. Mailing was

    effected 19 November.

    6. The remainder of 15 November was taken up with examining available texts

for passage setting up pass 7 and retyping reports that were found to be lacking

    in certain pouches.

    7. After pouch 7 was tentatively packed and case officers concerned were shown

how to seal them, a count was made of materials still available for passage. These

are listed separately, but in summary there are [72] pages of good material and

[106] pages counting material of doubtful value though high degree of authenticity.

It is thus estimated that at least [two] good passes [(8 and 9]) can be made with material now available at the station.

    8. For a [illegible] herewith a sample page from a [Gobernacion] file, which

    page 2,

together with other materials collected, fill the requirement levied on Station for such items. (DER Y9251).

Robert: No intent to make a big deal out of these documents, other than to point out that the Mexico City

with regards to Oswald could be more clarified by understanding that in addition to the visitors to the Cuban and Soviet Embassies in Mexico, the above document, I submit could indirectly shed light on additional cryptonyms currently not known, exfiltration operations at the time of the assassination and possibly lead to

whether the above document does have some bearing on the Oswald case in relation to having a more in depth insight into the overall context of CIA operations in regards to Cuba. Would like to know who FORTSON is........

At one time the author of the Lopez Report, years ago, David Lopez, stated he didn't believe the real Oswald

was ever at the Embassies in Mexico City......would like to know if he still feels that way. I believe there is a lot more to understanding Mexico City and Oswald than just the double angle, and hence, to understanding

the assassination. Although I do have my copy of the updated Destiny Betrayed, and it is everything I could have hoped for.

  23. I also did some checking, I have a rather large collection of military books, and to the best of my knowledge, there definitely was no Air Force Base in Helsinki circa 1959. I had thought there was the chance, as Bill Kelly mentioned of a MATS flight to Helsinki, but that seems problematic, at this point.

Ditto, regarding a NATO base; See
