Steve, I don't think we have ever been closer to military revolt/revolution. If the Supremes allow this dictatorial action to stand, I think it won't be long before 'enough is enough' takes root. The miscalculation of the current pencil pushing necons is exactly the same as thinking that the Contras would be supported by the population of Nicaragua. That ignorant assumption sealed the fate of that war. The vast majority of the Contras were made up of former "Guardia Nationale" under the repressive regime of Anastasio Samoza, who just happened to be Al Haig's classmate at West Point Class of '46. The Sandinista, who took their name from General Sandino, assassinated by Anastasio's father after stacking arms in a truce in 1929, had the support of the population. The Guardia Nationale had been so repressive to the Nicaraguan's that they never forgot it. Accordingly, the miscalculation that the sheeple will roll over and be complacent in this latest move to rape the Constitution and the Declaration of Independance is going to haunt the new breed of Nazi's all the way to the gallows, ala Nuremberg. As in all coups, the military will be the point of the spear. Take a look at how many combat units are in close proximatey to Washington......none. They think that is their security blanket. Because the bill was adopted with lightning speed, barely anyone noticed that it empowers Bush to declare not just aliens, but also U.S. citizens, "unlawful enemy combatants." Bush & Co. has portrayed the bill as a tough way to deal with aliens to protect us against terrorism. Frightened they might lose their majority in Congress in the November elections, the Republicans rammed the bill through Congress with little substantive debate. Anyone who donates money to a charity that turns up on Bush's list of "terrorist" organizations, or who speaks out against the government's policies could be declared an "unlawful enemy combatant" and imprisoned indefinitely. That includes American citizens. The bill also strips habeas corpus rights from detained aliens who have been declared enemy combatants. Congress has the constitutional power to suspend habeas corpus only in times of rebellion or invasion. The habeas-stripping provision in the new bill is unconstitutional and the Supreme Court will likely say so when the issue comes before it. Although more insidious, this law follows in the footsteps of other unnecessarily repressive legislation. In times of war and national crisis, the government has targeted immigrants and dissidents. In 1798, the Federalist-led Congress, capitalizing on the fear of war, passed the four Alien and Sedition Acts to stifle dissent against the Federalist Party's political agenda. The Naturalization Act extended the time necessary for immigrants to reside in the U.S. because most immigrants sympathized with the Republicans. The Alien Enemies Act provided for the arrest, detention and deportation of male citizens of any foreign nation at war with the United States. Many of the 25,000 French citizens living in the U.S. could have been expelled had France and America gone to war, but this law was never used. The Alien Friends Act authorized the deportation of any non-citizen suspected of endangering the security of the U.S. government; the law lasted only two years and no one was deported under it. The Sedition Act provided criminal penalties for any person who wrote, printed, published, or spoke anything "false, scandalous and malicious" with the intent to hold the government in "contempt or disrepute." The Federalists argued it was necessary to suppress criticism of the government in time of war. The Republicans objected that the Sedition Act violated the First Amendment, which had become part of the Constitution seven years earlier. Employed exclusively against Republicans, the Sedition Act was used to target congressmen and newspaper editors who criticized President John Adams. Subsequent examples of laws passed and actions taken as a result of fear-mongering during periods of xenophobia are the Espionage Act of 1917, the Sedition Act of 1918, the Red Scare following World War I, the forcible internment of people of Japanese descent during World War II, and the Alien Registration Act of 1940 (the Smith Act). During the McCarthy period of the 1950s, in an effort to eradicate the perceived threat of communism, the government engaged in widespread illegal surveillance to threaten and silence anyone who had an unorthodox political viewpoint. Many people were jailed, blacklisted and lost their jobs. Thousands of lives were shattered as the FBI engaged in "red-baiting." One month after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, United States Attorney General John Ashcroft rushed the U.S.A. Patriot Act through a timid Congress. The Patriot Act created a crime of domestic terrorism aimed at political activists who protest government policies, and set forth an ideological test for entry into the United States. In 1944, the Supreme Court upheld the legality of the internment of Japanese and Japanese-American citizens in Korematsu v. United States. Justice Robert Jackson warned in his dissent that the ruling would "lie about like a loaded weapon ready for the hand of any authority that can bring forward a plausible claim of an urgent need." That day has come with the Military Commissions Act of 2006. It provides the basis for the President to round-up both aliens and U.S. citizens he determines have given material support to terrorists. Kellogg Brown & Root, a subsidiary of Cheney's Halliburton, is constructing a huge facility at an undisclosed location to hold tens of thousands of undesirables. In his 1928 dissent in Olmstead v. United States, Justice Louis Brandeis cautioned, "The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding." Seventy-three years later, former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, speaking for a zealous President, warned Americans "they need to watch what they say, watch what they do." We can expect Bush to continue to exploit 9/11 to strip us of more of our liberties. Our constitutional right to dissent is in serious jeopardy. After that, comes 'ze papers' in this government's effort to neutralize anyone without the official 'papers' and the progression from papers to RFID - Radio Frequency ID. Not only will every move and transaction be logged, but transactions themselves will require your 'radio papers'. Your survivability will revolve around your RFID. No RFID - no money, no transactions, no food - indeed, your very existence vanishes. With a single click an individual, a group, or every person on the planet can simply be vanquished to poverty and anonymity. The information is far too valuable to be allowed to be trickled out into oblivion for the filling of ones pocket. Mr. Russo seems more concerned with his savings account than saving America. In 10 decades, a century 15,000 the cities and 50 million people will have had access to this movie. With roughly 20,000 cities and 290 million people a whole century will only allow 1/6 of the population and only 3/4 of the number of cities to view the film. By the time this movie is seen by the number of people needed to take action, they will all be dead of old age, if this current government allows them to live that long. In the first month, between donations and ticket sales the movie has grossed 3/4 of a million dollars. This is not the action of a patriot nor anyone actually concerned with getting the truth known about this government for action of the people. This so called big showing across America for freedom is nothing more than a method of filling Mr. Russo's wallet at the expense of the relevance of the movie. The fact that I felt that same feeling upon viewing A:FtF is remarkable and a testament to this vital film. The concise spectrum, depth and method of presentation of the information in A:FtF in such a short period of time is truly a masterpiece of art. This film must be seen by massive dispersal to the public in an equally short period of time to capitalize on its viewing effects. Limited dispersal is counterproductive to a swelling of the outrage that must be shown by peaceful demonstrated resistance to this government's tyranny. It is my firm opinion that A:FtF must be distributed by ALL routes of distribution, theater, DVD, net, house parties or get-togethers, private showings, bbqs, etc, anything within the limits of your imagination. A 3-hour marathon of A:FtF followed by "Loose Change" (although recent evidence reveals that the "no plane" concept regarding a 767 hitting the pentagon is flawed and will hopefully be corrected in the Final Edition) is certainly a devastating blow to tyranny. There will be vast numbers of people that have been disheartened and in despair looking to have their voice heard. In October, 1963 the Secret Service office in Miami, Florida was provided official notification by City of Miami Police Detective Jack Headley that an "informant" had made a sworn statement to the effect that an attempt would be made on the life of President John Kennedy during an announced upcoming visit to Miami. Information was developed that the planned assassination of the President would take place somewhere along a motor cade parade route from Miami International Airport to the location in downtown Miami where the President was scheduled to speak. Concern was expressed because of the publically announced decision not to use a protective bubble on the President's vehicle. Based upon this and other information, a decision was made to fly the President by helicopter from Miami International Airport to the speech site in downtown Miami. This change was not announced to the public. This information was not publically considered nor mentioned in the Warren Commission Report which ultimately determined that there was no conspiracy in the assassination of the President in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. It is not known whether the Secret Service provided this information to the Warren Commission. Jack Headley eventually became an attorney and practiced law for many years in the City of Miami. No secret service action is quite telling. But these are only things we observe that point to the discrepencies in the position of the government. I know something about the "positions of the government"; they change to fit the circumstance in the face of reality. As a former police officer, I know the relevance and importance of a crime scene. It is unbelievable that the 911 mass murder scene was destroyed. And that is a crime in itself. I have observed the heavy hand of government interferance. Mob hits in Miami were taken over by the FBI who, it turns out twenty years later, were complicit in the damn murders. Our government is the most corrupt organization on the planet and has been for the past 80 years. So many lies, so many deaths, so few have or will be rectified and that is our legacy. IIRC the names were only divulged a day or two after the attacks. On some of the flights stewardess identified the seat numbers of the hijackers. The authorities also found a bag belonging to Atta which wasn't transfered from the Portland flight to flight 11. That's the official story any way. No rmarkable intelligence needed. CNN got the info from the Feds not vice-versa I also recall that Atta's passport came fulttering down onto a dusty Manhatten street on that day of many miracles. My conversations with Fletcher Prouty re the 'tramps' in 1995 is where I first heard that Gonzalez and Sturgis were in these photos. The last man was suspected of being E. Howard Hunt. Harrelson's name didn't come up. Mark Lane would later write about the 'Cubans' who drove to Dallas from Miami in a Van and met with Jack Ruby on November 21, 1963. The initial photo of the 'tramps' being escorted by the Dallas PD is long thought to have been Gonzalez, walking with his head down. One of the later close up photos of Gonzoles appears to be the same person. BTW, Rosseli later went for a swim inside a 55 gallon drum wrapped in chains (but later floated to the surface) and this information was discussed relative to solving his murder by the Dade and Miami Police Homicide Detectives in 1973. They rely on 'reasonable men and women' who can view the evidence presented and reach a conclusion for a verdict of guilt. A Theory, as in mathematics, is a given, without proof, but something we rely on for calculations unless and until we find conclusive evidence that the theory is wrong, and we change it accordingly. A Theory is not a crime. And will never be prosecuted. In this photo, Gonzalez is not shown, appears that Harrelson has taken his place. And even under police escort, last tramp wearing hat gets to carry a bag or sorts....not a good idea guys. There is not one police agency in the world that would 'escort' the 'tramps' in this manner. First, they have no handcuffs or other restraints placing both 'officers' in immenent danger. First cop has his shotgun mere feet from the lead 'tramp'. Last cop has his shotgun cradled like he was off on a pheasant hunt. If the lead tramp attacks the lead cop, the last cop is too far away to assist and cannot afford to shoot because of the close proximatey of the first cop. This whole scenario sucks.
