  1. DEAR JOHN,Please let me add that an early trip supporter of the JFK/Dallas trip was the CIA connected San Jacinto Foundation. A member of this group was John Mecom SR (mob also). Mr. Mecom and his son Mecom JR (mob also) were both friends of DEMOH. Mecom Sr's lawyer, Ernest Carrere , sat on the board of National American Bank of New Orleans...along with Clem A. Sehrt (later President of Bank)..and Leon Tujague. (you know both Sehrt and Tujague of course). Ernest Carrere also worked for EMPIRE TRUST COMPANY that Jack Crichton also worked for........EMPIRE TRUST ran their own world wide intell service....(would they be in cooperation with CIA ?)...................................THANKS SG see link

  2. Mr. Gratz, The wood boxes labled books - which contents should weigh 490lbs and no method to carry said boxes is indicative of clandestine activity. Mr. Weston will change said article on the testimony of Wilcott. HOWEVER= I believe the thrust of the article that the TSBD was a place of clandestine activity is very, very solid =and that Wilcott was refering to the depository without using its name. Without going into indications that LHO was spook (cause I am not paid to post and my time is limited today) you need to look at the weight of the evidence like LHO/Spook , CAP-BYRD CIA recruitment, BYRD-CRICHTON,BYRD LTV stock tranactions, Byrd's connection to TROY POST via LTV . Mr. POST was part owner with Edwin Pauley in CIA activity filled COCONUT ISLAND . Pauley was in business with GHWB in Mexico corporation PERMARGO. An informant once told Mae Brussell that the shooters came up from MEXICO with the help of EH Hunt and PERMARGO.=============== As to retired agents of the CIA -just ask Mr. Simkin if he thinks Mr. Hunt was retired re: WATERGATE as officially stated............. Who did PD Scotts book hurt (the one censored ??) the CIA .....quacks like duck ....++++++As to the FILM I think the ref Weston gave was solid. I do think that Mr. Z turned off the film at the turn...cause he was told to.....just look into the LAW FIRM of PASSMAN & JONES-you will find your answer. AS to the turn..well Ive driven a 51 Pontiac & a 53 Buick....no power steering ........that ELM ST turn must have been very, very, very well known in DALLAS. The moment JFK fired DULLES, he (JFK) was doomed........Dulles right hand man's brother was mayor by, as I recall 61. So whenever the move was made into the DEPOSITORY +++AND THERE IS CONFLICTING TESTIMONY when the move was made-not so simple as you assert sir++ it had already been decided to make it a very primary killing platform.... AS to the TRADE MART ,the KEY is the lack of Security plans from the TRADE MART to Love Field (thats the KEY silly you) ...and yes security would seem to be tight there at the Trade Mart == however when you are working with someone who constructed said building ===its no stretch to think security can be overcome========================POSTSCRIPT When Bruce Adamson Found out about COCONUT ISLAND (cause he was looking into PAULEY via Bush re: DEMOH) =and Bruce (and latter myself) interviewed a caretaker from said micro-ISLAND =BRUCE HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT WHO TROY POST WAS ++HONEST !!! Bruce never knew about the Mae Brussell datum.....Also Bruce didnt know about PAULEY'S connection to the Japanese Stolen Gold (SEE GOLD WARRIORS BOOK) . Said gold was the foundation of OSS/OPC/then CIA efforts to fight the cold war. This Gold formed what is called the CIA's BLACK Eagle Trust ---the CIA's anti-commie trust. Said work with the stolen gold brought PAULEY in contact with one) Robert Lovett (of FREEPORT Sulfur Board & see LOVETT REPORT which help form initial CIA policy/structure) and two) McCloy.

In my post which talks about Thomas S. Gates I imply (dont state that ) GATES is a Dulles operative. James Ling (via POST I suspect) met Gates . PD Scott states that the stock transactions of the PRIMARY owners of LTV were assassinated related (with foreknowledge). If you dont know the primary owners of LTV they were BYRD/POST and Ling. In the Secret War Against the Jews book ,PAULEY is IDed as a Dulles operative...and of course Prescott Bush (DAD GHWB) was close friends with Dulles since the early 1930's .............................. golly we are very close to connecting DULLES to the TSBD.........sg

  3. Mr. Gratz, I thought you worrked for a newspaper-that can be found in a GOOGLE search of your name and CUBA ?? Dont anti-CASTRO CUBANS own newspapers in Flordia?? Are not anti-CASTRO cubans connected to the drug trade ?? Is not the word possible in your vocabulary ?? I ask myself = WHY DOES GRATZ SLANDER CASTRO with an odd insistence ?? Did CASTRO ever do anything to GRATZ or was it to his employers ?? Because I say something is possible I am called charlatan- not a possible charlatan.

GRATZ there was complex plan for security from LOVE Field to the trade MART but none from the TRADE Mart back to LoveField. How did the man you slander CASTRO do that ???? I think the lady protests tooooo much - Is not the best conclusion that you work for a newpaper owned (or influenced by) ANTI-Castro Cubans ??????? ++++++ A short tale of Mr Croft /// Croft takes pictures =goes back to railroad station ,then via train to Colorado . He had told no one that he took photos. At 10AM the FBI comes to his boarding room door /// Dallas was a large CIA operation - I assume that number of ANTI-CASTRO Cubans from JM WAVE came to DALLAS- one followed CROFT. Mr. Castro has probably committed many, many, many crimes= but the killing of KENNEDY isnt one of them. I suggest today, yes today, that you give up on your silly idea that CASTRO killed JFK - and start doing real research. Jack White once analyzed the posting of someone at LANCER over a years time . The persons posting were so numerous that JACK said that he thought he was "PAID TO POST" . I look at your numerous postings and wonder the same thing =paid by anti CASTRO CUBANS ????? Do you have the GREAT HEROIN COUP BOOK ?? ++++ BTW the TRADE MART was built by CROW - NOW JFK liked the PRESIDENT of BRAZIL -but by MARCH he was gone =by a CIA-BRAZIL military coup. The coup plotting probably occured by the CIA against wishes and without the knowledge of JFK (CAUSE CIA was going to KILL JFK). CROW joined the Rockefellers post coup in large investments in BRAZIL (SEE THY WILL BE DONE BOOK). Crow, post assassination , joined MOB connected Wallace investments. The Rockefellers and Murchisons were in business in Dallas -and the MURCHISONS seem to be connected to the coverup. Crow would have all the diagrams/plans of the Trade Mart. The plotters would be sure that JFK would not leave Trade Mart alive - thus no need to plan 'safety' measures to Love Field. Additionally Daivd Rockefeller was one of the founders of the Asia Foundation -which wanted large development of Vietnam. OF COURSE VIETNAM WOULD HAVE TO BE COMMIE FREE for said investments --and if JFK was seen to be lacking to this task.................The Rockefellers had plans to develop SE ASIA (as they planned in BRAZIL). (again see THY WILL BE DONE BOOK) BTW Nelson ROCK and LBJ were close....................

GRATZ why dont you get less upset about things I say are possible and not be concerned by things that are not possible - like CASTRO killed JFK...................... :) PS If someone was paid to post on the JFK matter, the best conclusions would be IMHO - - said person worked for CIA or CIA assets (and or) wanted to slander someone = like CASTRO.

    Steven Gaal,

Tim Gratz has sent you this email from http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php.

    I demand an admission that:

You do not know the name of my employer.

That you had no basis for asserting that my employer's company was founded or based on drug money.

I demand that you post this admission within the next twenty-four hours.

If you do not do so, expect appropriate action.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Mr. Gaal responds. Well I dont know for sure. I thought you had retired from law to be a journalist. Now I dont know if said newspaper was founded on drug money (I SAID 'possible') +++HAPPY NOW=============

  4. Dear Jim, If Mr. GRATZ was a real researcher journalist/researcher he would find out if ,

http://www.bmibook.com/html/4_c.html the depository STANLEY in FLORDIA was related to the JOHN R. STANLEY that worked for BYRD and sat on MOB Wallace investments. Just call and ask Mr. Stanley --cause that will be real research (NOT !!!!!!!). In the GREAT HEROIN COUP book, it was stated that post assassination to 1966 there was an explosion of CUBANS (not from Cuba ,BTW) into drug operations. This may have been part of the payoff for their assisstance in the DALLAS matter. Its possible that said drug money is the foundation of Mr. GRATZ's employer's company...................... thanks sg

  5. Dear Terro, From the Third Alternative Palamara book= one can assume Dillon stood aside while Gasper Belin was active at Treasury in assassination matters. Dulles knew Scribner and Belin =both Head Lawyers for Treasury dept. (see my post on Dulles and SS). Gasper Belin knew JJA,Bundy brothers and Dulles. There are mis-spellings

at electronic NARA - one is OZ tax records (for you Harvey & Lee fans) and Gasper. Dillion was also part of Rockefeller orbit (see diagram THY WILL BE DONE BOOK). The Stillman and regular Rockefeller families

were both on the board of Freeport Sulfur. Connections of the Rockefeller family to the coverup can be seen via the GSW corporation and ITEK.

The Duponts/Morgan group were the mainstay of the FDR coup plan. Recent info shows that Prescott Bush

    was

one of main founders of the Liberty League = these would have help form troops to aid in FDR coup. Since I believe

Prescott & SON part of Dallas-it is very possible Dillon knew- but from Palamara work and other info on Gasper -DILLON stood aside IMHO. THANKS SG

  6. JOHN WROTE QUOTE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Very interesting post. I will be publishing my research on this here:

    http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=5799

One name that you mentioned that particularly interests me is that of William S. Youngman. He was Tommy Corcoran’s front man when he set up China Defense Supplies in 1940. What else do you know about him?

I know for example he was the son of William S. Youngman, Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts (1929-33) and that he was listed on the Council on Foreign Relations, Membership Roster. 1992. He was also involved in drawing up T.V. Soong's will in 1971.

THANK YOU JOHN & JIM, As with Howard let me add more then respond. The Cabot's HANNA had as head lawyers and investors the DULLES Brothers. The Dulles brothers were probably still big investors in 63. The metal scandal was going to be reopened up- two weeks before assassination ,JFK's press secretary made the announcement. The four companies that were part of this overstocking of strategic metals were a very ANGLOPHILE/BRITISH affair BTW. SHAW and DAP have been connected to FREEPORT SULFUR. More on Dulles connection =Dulles friend's son went before the WC and stated the PAINES were good people. Demitri DeMohrenschildt (George's Brother) was a close friend of the DULLES family. Golly just a few degress of seperation here.

GETTING SOMEWHAT BACK TO YOUR RESPONE JOHN+ PD Scott wrote in DALLAS CONSPIRACY that McCloy was a United Fruit director along with Robert Lehman and Charles Appleton Meyer. Meyer was a fellow director of the aforementioned (above posts) (the CIA connected)Republic National Bank with Lewis W. MacNaughton. ===and too expand on the few degrees of seperation theme== MacNaughton's personal accountant BOUHE -was a not only a hands on helper to the Oswald household - but knew one JACK RUBY............

Sorry dont have more info on Youngman=++++++++++THANKS sg

  7. Thank you Howard for your response. Let me add a little more to my post info -then I'll respond to your info. Robert Anderson and Harold Grant (of Crown Corp.) were also part of Zeckendorf's Webb & Knapp empire (per PD Scott). The longest Sunday LBJ meeting was with Anderson.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also part of Freeport board was I)Jock Hay Whitney (father & grandfather Skull & Bones) . Whitney was reported to hate JFK and reportedly stayed up all the Nov 23 AM writing lonenuts/assassination/US History article. Also on Freeport board was 2) Augustus Long (Skull & Bones). The Freeport board had Lovett (Skull & Bones) and Stillman Rockefeller family were Skull & Bones also .....gee a lot of BONES MEN Huh ??? When you add that Dulles was a friend of Prescott Bush (Skull & Bones) and his son was GHWB (Skull & Bones), its sure a small world. GHWB & William Casey have been connected to the assassination. Bruce Adamson showed a FBI doc about Brown Brothers (were Prescott had just become head man in 63) sending a note to Republic National Bank (which controlled CIA trust building Republic National Bank Building ) about the credit worthiness of one George DeMohrenschildt. Adamson wrote that DeMohrenschildt then got $200,000 from Prescott Bush in May 63 before going to Wash DC. Augustus Long was also part of ultra small/elite Bechtel Foreign Study group which had the the Head of PanAM and Steven Bechtel, and Thomas S. Gates. Steven was an intimate of Dulles -even giving the ultimate insider- Dulles- investment information. Gates a Morgan partner pre and post being an Undersecretary of Defense. In House of Morgan Book =GATES confessed to sending in U2 (against wishes of the President I add )=== for Dulles & War HAWK crowd ???? Gates cousin wrote MAFIA did DALLAS KINGFISH Book.

The FreePort Lawyers also represented in NO Mosbacher----longtime friend of GHWB. I have more-but this should be enough..One more tidbit FreePort was also going to lose a lot a CASH in the JFK directed METAL SCANDAL -along with HANNA MINING-which the CABOTS (yes ultra/ultra Skull & Bones BTW) controlled. The Cabots via First National Bank of Boston Controlled TEXTRON ==WHICH CONTROLLED BELL HELICOPTER which employed ......M Paine......... (and he was a CABOT on BOTH sides of his family) THANKS sg

  8. Yes very close IMHO your ideas and mine . Go to part I ,CHAPTER VII pg. 19 of DALLAS Conspiracy by PD Scott. With further background you know CV Starr (via WWII operation X -using re-insurance (thats re) info to gain intell on AXIS factories) connects to US intell/OSS . Starr (via his US LIFE-op X ) became part of far EAST transnational protected drug operations (via RUPPERT INFO). Binns (US LIFE & CROWN Corp.) connects via W.S. Youngman to Corcoran. PD Scott connected Paul Helliwell to American General of Galveston in Deep Politics book. American General was bought by US Life. US Life had operations in Houston and PO BOX in Dallas in 63. The confirmation of ROSE CHERAMIE'S story is in the Strength of Wolf Book- Now see pg 313 for Galveston drug ring. Drugs going from Houston-Galveston(per ROSE). OF NOTE Roscoe White worked 2 weeks or so for American General = a vetting process IMHO - There is some (some) truth to the White story - but the people behind promoting it actually knew most of the story was phoney - were trying to descredit White connection . The people promoting the White story were from MIDLAND TX - the hangout of one G W B.....................sg  When you read Strength of Wolf book -keep in mind Zeckendorf had Tawian/US trucking connections. Zeckendorf NO lawyers same as FREE PORT Sulfur and a board member of Zeckendorf's NO company worked for Byrd. Zeckendorf provided land for MURCHISON/ROCKEFFELLER land deal that PD SCOTT said was assassination related. The company that produced limited partnership shares for said land deal was CIA/OSS/Dulles connected Glore Forgan. The TEAMSTERS provided money for said deal via (WEBB & KNAPP) in a losing fashion..........$$$ in a losing fashion.................its almost like the mob paid MURCHISON/CIA/ROCKEFELLER axis for hit ++++++today US LIFE mostly became part of AIG re-insurance giant. (SEE LINDA MINOR/Ruppert WORK ON AIG)

    http://www.google.com/search?as_q=AIG&num=...ts=&safe=images

PPS The employee of Byrd's (and Zeckendorf board member) John R. Stanley also sat on MOB connected Wallace investments - which was -headed by none other than LOCKE of LOCKE-PURNELL deciding Parade Route HDQ.

  9. The following was an article that was published in the May 1999 Issue of the Fourth Decade.

    The Glaze Letters

    William Weston

    May 1999

Among the boxes forming the sniper's nest were four that had twenty-eight identifiable prints. Traceable to Oswald were two palmprints and one fingerprint. Twenty-four prints were made by two law enforcement officials, but one palmprint could not be identified. The unmatched print might mean an accomplice. Or maybe someone was innocently moving boxes from one place to another. [1] To settle the matter, the FBI needed a set of prints from everyone employed at the Texas School Book Depository - a total of sixty-nine people. It was a simple procedure, quick and easy, and no one should have had any complaints about disruptions or delays. Notwithstanding, the agency ran smack into an unexpected wall of resistance. In a letter to the Warren Commission, J. Edgar Hoover tried to explain why the Bureau failed to do its job.

Mr. Roy S. Truly, Warehouse Superintendent, who has been very cooperative with this Bureau in the past, strongly objected to the printing of all employees as he felt it would seriously handicap the work of his firm. Mr. Truly stated there are about twenty employees who would have had occasion to handle the cartons in question and he desired the printing to be limited to this group. [2]

As a result of these objections, the FBI was forced to modify its demand according to the limitation imposed. How could this happen? How could a mere warehouse manager dictate to a law enforcement agency as powerful as the FBI what it could, or could not do, in the investigation of a crime as serious as the assassination of the President? Were Hoover's agents always so timid with people who refused to cooperate? No, for in Jean Hill's book, The Last Dissenting Witness, a Dallas motorcycle officer, J. B. Marshall, was quoted as saying, "The Feds are tearing our whole department to pieces . . . they tell 'em, 'If you don't cooperate, we'll take your badge.' . . . they've been especially rough on all the guys who were on motorcade duty that day." [3] Still another victim was Marina Oswald, who was told that if she did not cooperate, she would be forced to leave the country. [4] These examples demonstrate a stern resolve to squash even the mildest of troublemakers. Why then should the FBI meekly tolerate a slap in the face from someone at the Book Depository? Did the warehouse manager have some clout that even Hoover had to respect? If so, it is difficult to understand where this clout came from. The innocence of anyone working in that particular building was far from certain in the eyes of suspicious investigators.

Whatever might be said in the ongoing debate concerning the number of bullets whizzing through Dealey Plaza, it is a fact that the Book Depository was a source location. On the premises was at least one hit team, including a leader, a sniper, a radioman, and two or three watchers to secure the escape route. It was also the staging area of the patsy, who had to be controlled and moved around in such a way that he would be in a credible position to take the blame. To keep the risks of exposure to a minimum, the conspirators had to have complete control over the building. How they managed to accomplish this is a question that remains to be answered.

Six years ago I received from Larry Ray Harris a copy of a letter that sheds some light on this issue. Written by a Mr. Glaze to the Alternative Information Network in Austin, Texas on June 2, 1989, this letter mentioned an earlier letter that was sent to the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA). Recently I was able to get a copy of the earlier letter from the National Archives. Through a comparison of the details in both letters, I have been able to produce the following narrative.

In late 1974, while working as a journalist in Dallas, Glaze met a woman who began working for the Book Depository in 1969 - six years after the assassination. (She was no longer working there at the time she spoke to Glaze.) Her supervisor was William Shelley. The company, she said, had a strange way of introducing new employees to their duties. She and another new employee were approached by two men, who produced I.D. wallets and identified themselves as "government agents." They were taken to an empty room and given questionnaires to fill out. These exams were full of oddly irrelevant questions, calling for opinions on various topics of the day, especially social issues. Obediently the two employees wrote out their answers. When they were done, they gave the sheets back, and in the short pause that followed, one of the examiners bluntly asked: "Have you been recruited by the FBI or the CIA?" The two employees were stunned. As ordinary office workers, they were only doing minor clerical tasks at low wages. Why would anyone think that they came from the FBI or the CIA? While it was true that the Book Depository had acquired the notoriety of being the place where Oswald shot the President, still by 1969 that should have been ancient history. Yet even more disturbing were the next questions that came to mind. If the Book Depository was just an insignificant, little company, why would it be attracting the attention of the two biggest intelligence establishments in the country? Furthermore, what was the intrigue that was spurring these "government agents" to hunt down unwanted infiltrators?

Glaze asked the woman if she and her co-worker were the only ones subjected to this kind of treatment. No, they were not the only ones. Background checks on new employees were done as a routine procedure at the Book Depository. After listening to the woman's account, Glaze decided to check it out. He contacted her former supervisor, William Shelley, and asked to meet with him. Shelley agreed to this request and even allowed the reporter to take notes and use a tape recorder. The meeting took place at the Book Depository warehouse near the intersection of Royal Lane and Interstate 35 on the far northwest side of Dallas. (The company had moved from its old location on 411 Elm Street in 1970.) The information that Glaze was gathering must have been extensive, for the two men had numerous meetings together. Yet only a few disclosures are provided in the letters. The most significant one appears in the 1989 letter: "Mr. Shelley claims to have been an intelligence officer during World War II and thereafter joined the CIA." This extraordinary revelation goes far in explaining the mysteries of the Book Depository, and a discussion of its implications will be given later in this article.

Shelley told Glaze that he had been the supervisor of Lee Harvey Oswald. After the assassination, the Dallas police placed Shelley under arrest and formally charged him with the murder of the President. (No mention was made by Glaze as to why Shelley had been arrested, nor did he say what connection this arrest had with the arrest of Oswald.) The charges against Shelley were soon dropped, and he was released. Since that day, at various times, journalists representing several newspapers and magazines approached him with offers of huge sums of money for his personal account of the assassination. These offers were all turned down. When Glaze tried to get permission to quote him in his own article, Shelley refused and insisted that even his name was not to be printed.

In spite of this setback, Glaze was not discouraged. He went back to the woman and told her that he was doing a story on the Book Depository. He was going to talk to the FBI and possibly get some more information. When the woman heard this, she was absolutely appalled. The very idea that he was writing an article filled her with terror. She told him that if he persisted in his efforts to publicize this story, she would emphatically deny everything she told him. The prospects for an article irretrievably came to an end, and Glaze had no choice but to go home empty-handed.

It was not long after his departure that he felt obliged to speak to the woman again. What he intended to say is not mentioned in his letters, but perhaps he wanted to make an apology. In any case, it was only a few hours after he last saw her that he decided to see her again.

When he arrived at her apartment, he was surprised to find it totally empty. It looked as if no one had ever lived there. Glaze knew that she had a husband and a child, and they too were gone. The mystified reporter could not understand how three people could have moved away so quickly. The next day he went to the woman's place of employment and found out that she never showed up for work, and no one knew where she was. Later inquiries revealed that she did not even stop by to pick up her final paycheck. In his quest to find them, the most promising lead Glaze had was the fact that the husband had once been a musician in "The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band." Yet even this fortuitous bit of information got him nowhere. Not one acquaintance or associate had any idea where they could have gone.

About the same time as he was conducting his search, Glaze went to get his interview notes and tapes and found that they had inexplicably disappeared. Then one day, he heard a commotion outside his apartment. He looked out the window and saw an estimated twenty Dallas policemen pulled up in front. They lingered for nearly an hour, shouting in a highly threatening manner and pointing their pistols at his window. Frightened for his life, he immediately left the city.

On December 12, 1977, while working as a reporter for the Avalanche Journal in Lubbock, Texas, he sent a letter to the HSCA. He wrote that he had some information regarding the assassination of President Kennedy and gave a brief sketch of his investigation of the Book Depository. In the closing paragraphs of his letter, he wrote, "I must admit that my own fear of getting involved in the investigation has prevented me from writing you earlier. I apologize." [5]

Whether or not the HSCA had taken an interest in this matter is not known. The only reply it sent was a form letter, which read: "Dear Ms. Glaze [The HSCA had mistakenly thought he was a woman], Thank you for your letter. It has been directed to the Deputy Chief Counsel in charge of the investigation for his review. Your interest in the work of our Committee is appreciated. Sincerely, G. Robert Blakey, Chief Counsel and Director." [6]

Eleven years later, Glaze wrote a letter to Doug Kellner and Frank Morrow of The Alternative Information Network. [7] He also sent them a copy of the reply that he got from Blakey. Somehow a copy of both these letters ended up in the hands of Larry Ray Harris. In his own letter to me, Harris wrote: "I don't recall its origins with clarity, but I think it was given to me by a professor at Southern Methodist University here in Dallas. Regardless, it ended up in my files around the time we opened the JFK Center in 1989. I don't know that anyone has ever looked into it. It could be a hoax, but sounds sincere. It would be easy to verify (1) if a reporter named Glaze has ever worked for the Lubbock newspaper; (2) if a journalist named Glaze was living in Dallas in 1974/1975; and (3) if there is/was an 'Alternative Information Network' in Austin, or if Kellner and Morrow are real persons and remember receiving the letter. If it is true that Shelley was affiliated in some way with CIA or U.S. Intelligence, that would be a disturbing and potentially significant development." [8]

When I first began my inquiry, I was hampered by a minor problem. The signature at the bottom of the letter was blacked out. Fortunately the salutation "Dear Ms. Glaze" on the HSCA letter was not. I thus had a clue that the first name must be some gender neutral type such as Robin or Terry. In January 1993, I called up the Avalanche Journal and asked for Mr. Glaze. No one by that name was currently employed. Neither were there any records of a Glaze in the files of the personnel department. Yet the absence of records did not necessarily mean he never worked there; it was a regular practice to discard the records of former employees after three years. Was there anyone who had been around long enough to remember a journalist named Glaze? The personnel director said that she had been with the paper for about as long as anyone, since 1982, and she never knew anyone by that name.

I next tried to reach either Kellner or Morrow at the Alternative Information Network. Kellner was the one who took my call. I told him who I was and that I had a letter addressed to him and his partner regarding the Kennedy assassination. After I read the contents, Kellner said he never got it. It was odd, he said, that I should have a letter in which he was named as a recipient but he had never seen it. He asked that a copy be sent to his home - not to the business - and after he read it, he would check into it. Two weeks later I made a follow-up phone call and asked Kellner if he found out anything. He said that he showed the letter to Morrow, who said that he vaguely remembered it but could not give any additional information regarding the contents or the author who wrote it.

That was as far as I got in 1993. In February 1999, a researcher named Steve Gaal checked the National Archives web site and found that someone named Glaze had written to the HSCA. That was when I finally had the full name of the reporter: Elzie Dean Glaze. A search of the Internet revealed that a man with this same name has a current e-mail address in Austin, Texas. I sent two messages to that address, but so far I received no response.

The next lead that had to be tracked down was the identity of the man who had been a member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The band started out in 1966 as a jug band in Long Beach, California. They became known for their unique blend of country western and rock and roll. Among the original musicians were John McEuen, Jeff Hanna, Bruce Kunkel, Ralph Barr, Leslie Thompson, and Jimmie Fadden. After appearing in a movie calledPaint Your Wagon, the band went through some hard times. In 1968 a meeting was held in the manager's Hollywood office, and the group decided to dissolve. Les Thompson ended the meeting with a question: "Does that mean we don't hafta practice anymore?" He then went to Texas to enroll in a bulldozer school. A year or two later, the members of the band, with the exception of Kunkel and Barr, decided to try again. A new member from Philadelphia named Jimmie Ibbotson was added on. This time they achieved commercial success, and in 1970 a song called "Mr. Bojangles" became a top ten hit. Sometime prior to 1974, Les Thompson left the band again. In 1977 the group acquired the distinction of being the first American band to tour the Soviet Union. They are still going strong today, having released a new album called Bang! Bang! Bang! in May 1999. [9]

In an attempt to get more information, I sent them a letter, along with copies of the Glaze correspondence. In a follow-up phone call, I spoke with the manager, and he told me that he talked with the two musicians who had been with the band from the beginning. They said that it has been a such long time since they heard from the early members, that they were unable to provide any information as to where they went or what they had been doing. [10]

With nothing else to go, I would say that the musician spoken of by Glaze was probably Leslie Thompson. He was the only one who went to Texas, and he might have stayed there long enough to establish long-term ties with some of the people in that state.

Having gone as far as I could in checking the authenticity of the Glaze letters, the next thing that needs to be done is to cross-check the information contained in them with what we know about William Shelley.

At the time the assassination occurred, Shelley was, according to his testimony, standing on the steps of the Book Depository with Billy Lovelady and Wesley Frazier. [11] The James Altgens photograph of the limousine under fire confirms the presence of Lovelady on the steps but not Shelley or Frazier. About a minute after the assassination, two female employees in the Book Depository came down the stairs and saw Shelley and Lovelady in the back of the building just about in front of the two freight elevators. One lady said, "I believe the President has been shot." Curiously, neither Shelley nor Lovelady said anything in reply. [12] After the two women ran out the back door, Roy Truly and Police Officer Marion Baker rushed in through the front door. They were going up to the roof to search for a gunman. According to Baker's testimony, he saw two white men sitting by the stairs. [13] According to Shelley, he and Lovelady were appointed by Truly to guard the stairs and elevators. [14]

In any reconstruction of what was happening with the stairs and elevators, it is obvious that Shelley and Lovelady must have seen the escape of one of the assassins. About a minute or two after Truly and Baker went up the stairs, a witness on the street saw a man in a dark sportcoat running out the back door. This man was no doubt the same one seen at a fifth floor window standing next to a man armed with a rifle. After the shooting ended, the man in the dark sportcoat took an elevator down to the ground floor, while at the same time Truly and Baker were going up the stairs. As the culprit headed for the back door, he would have had to pass Shelley and Lovelady in order to exit the building. [15]

About a minute or two after the man in the dark sportcoat dashed out the back door, NBC news reporter Robert MacNeil came in through the front door. In a written account of what he saw, he said that he was surprised to see three men, totally oblivious to the chaos outside, standing by a pay phone.

I went immediately into the clear space on the ground floor and asked where there was a phone. There were, as I recall, three men there, all I think in shirt sleeves. What, on recollection, strikes me as possibly significant is that all three seemed to be exceedingly calm and relaxed, compared to the pandemonium which existed right outside their front door. I did not pay attention to this at the time. I asked the first man I saw – a man who was telephoning from a pillar in the middle of the room – where I could call from. He directed me to another man nearer the door, who pointed to an office. When I got to the phone, two of the lines were lit up. I made my call and left. . . . I was in too much of a hurry to remember what the three men looked like. But their manner was very relaxed. [16]

MacNeil's amazement at the strange placidity of the three men is indicated by the way he repeated this observation for emphasis. The man using the pay phone was quite probably Shelley, for in an affidavit made out that same afternoon, Shelley said, "I went back into the building and went inside and called my wife and told her what happened." [17]

About a minute or two after MacNeil saw the three calm men - between 12:35 and 12:40 - Oswald had a five-to-ten minute chat with the assistant manager. According to an FBI report of the first interrogation of Oswald in the Dallas homocide office:

OSWALD stated that [at the time of the assassination] he took this Coke down to the first floor and stood around and had lunch in the employees lunch room. He thereafter went outside and stood around for five or ten minutes with foreman BILL SHELLEY, and thereafter went home. He stated that he left work because, in his opinion, based upon remarks of BILL SHELLEY, he did not believe that there was going to be any more work that day due to the confusion in the building. [18]

The timing and location of Oswald's departure from the Book Depository correlates exactly with the appearance of a Nash Rambler on Elm Street driven by a dark-skinned man. Between 12:40 and 12:45, Deputy Roger Craig heard a loud whistle and looked up to see Oswald running down the grassy slope in front of the Book Depository. Oswald opened the passenger side door of the Nash Rambler and got in. The car was last seen speeding towards Oak Cliff, where the shooting of Officer Tippit was to occur twenty to thirty minutes later. If Oswald had been talking to Shelley prior to his departure, then there can be no doubt that Shelley had seen him getting away.

Not long after Oswald left the scene, Shelley told Truly that Oswald was missing. (How he came to this conclusion was never publicly disclosed.) A roll call of warehouse employees was made, and it was determined that Oswald was indeed absent. Truly notified Police Captain Will Fritz, who immediately thought that it was "important to hold that man." [19]

The above noted actions seem to indicate that Shelley was very close to the conspiracy, if not actually participating in it. Assuming that the police really had arrested him and charged him with the assassination, they certainly would have had ample cause. For one thing, they would have known that Shelley was in charge of a work crew that spent the entire morning on the same floor where the sniper's nest, rifle, and empty cartridges were found. Secondly, the accused assassin had named Shelley as the one who told him he could leave. Thirdly, the police knew about the Nash Rambler story as early as 5:00 in the afternoon, when Roger Craig reported it to them. Finally, Shelley might not have been entirely candid in how he came to realize that Oswald was missing. No doubt Shelley was asked a lot of questions, and it is possible that he was kept in custody until he gave some satisfactory answers. Admittedly, there is no record of Shelley being arrested, but that does not necessarily mean Glaze was wrong. Missing evidence could just as easily be due to the systematic destruction of anything contrary to the official version.

The presence of an agent, or an ex-agent, of the CIA at the Book Depository would explain a great deal regarding how the conspirators managed to get their gunmen on the premises. Let us now look into Shelley's background to see what additional corroboration can be shed on this matter.

According to statements made to the police and to the Warren Commission, Shelley was born in Gunter, Texas in 1925. During World War Two, he worked "a little bit" in defense plants. On October 29, 1945 at the age of nineteen or twenty he began working for the Book Depository. Eighteen years later, in 1963, he was holding the position of assistant manager of the "miscellaneous department." [20] By 1975, when Glaze talked to him, he had passed his thirtieth anniversary in the company. Such a long career in one place is confirmed in the listings of the city directories. In 1947 he was listed as a clerk at the Hugh Perry Book Depository (the old name for the Texas School Book Depository), and he had a room at 515 Martinique Avenue. In 1960 he was a department manager; his wife's name was Marie; and they lived in a house on 126 Tatum Avenue. They were still living in that house at the time of the assassination.

Although the facts are few, the picture is clear. Shelley was a simple desk clerk and warehouse man, content to live out his working life under the roof of one company. He certainly did not fit the image of a globetrotting CIA operative, embarking on secret missions with the latest in high tech weaponry. Even if we can assume that he really had been an intelligence officer during World War Two, it does not seem possible that he could have joined the CIA afterwards. The agency did not even come into existence until two years after Shelley got his job at the Book Depository.

It would thus appear that we have an irreconcilable situation; Shelley could not have been in the CIA before his employment at the Book Depository. Yet I believe that a seemingly irresolvable problem might on closer examination yield a solution that brings a deeper understanding of the truth. Let us take a different approach. Let us suppose that the job at the Book Depository was concurrent with a career in the CIA. If we can assume that is true, then the Book Depository itself must have been a front for CIA activities.

While it is commonly acknowledged that the agency has too much influence in national affairs, it is still amazing to find its hand in such a wide diversity of organizations and institutions. These include such entities as labor unions, airlines, college student associations, foundations, law firms, banks, savings and loans, investment firms, travel agencies, police departments, post offices, publishing companies, newspapers, call girl services, and mental health institutions. Considering the far-reaching extent of control over so many different areas in American society, it does not seem reasonable to suppose that the CIA would have the moral restraint to make an exception of the Book Depository - provided, of course, that the control of it would further its goals in some way.

If CIA operators had been working inside the building in which the Book Depository was located, they would have not been on unfriendly ground. The property itself was owned by a wealthy, right-wing Texas oilman named D. H. Byrd. He was also a colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, which included among its members Lee Harvey Oswald and David Ferrie. That Ferrie and Oswald knew each other was proven in a 1993 Frontline special on Oswald, in which former cadets Tony Atzenhoffer and Johnny Ciravola displayed a picture showing Ferrie and Oswald at a cadet campout near New Orleans. What is not so well known is that the two men also knew Colonel Byrd. Atzenhoffer told this author that Byrd was the "head honcho" of the Civil Air Patrol in Louisiana and Texas, and that he came to Moissant Airport to give speeches on special occasions, such as orientation sessions for new cadets. [21] Since there is no question that CAP members Ferrie and Oswald were associated with the CIA, it would only be logical to assume that their commander was too.

Another member of the Louisiana Civil Air Patrol who was an associate of the CIA was Barry Seal, a notorious drug smuggler who set up the Mena Airport operation in Arkansas in the early 1980's and later got involved in the Iran-Contra scandal. He was murdered in 1986 by three Colombian hitmen. Seal first got his pilot's license in Baton Rouge on July 16, 1954, when he was sixteen years old. According to a high school friend, Seal was well acquainted with David Ferrie.

One Friday evening while we were in high school, I got a call from Barry, asking if I'd like to fly over to Lacombe with him in the morning, a little town on the north shore across Lake Ponchartrain from New Orleans. We left about 5:30 and flew over to the little airport there and Barry and I get out of the plane, and here's this really weird-looking guy, dressed all in black, sitting in a director's chair on the tarmac, and he's drilling a bunch of Civil Air Patrol guys that are standing in formation in front of him. They were carrying old M-1s. His name was David Ferrie. He was a captain in the Louisiana Civil Air Patrol. . . . See, Barry was making $400 a week in high school flying for David Ferrie. . . .

On the flight back, Barry shouted over the engine. "That weird looking guy? He's got no hair on his body! It's why he's wearing a wig! Get up close, he's even got fake eyebrows, and fake eyelashes, but . . . that weirdo's a big-time pilot and works with the CIA.

Seal and his friend also talked about the wooden crates that Ferrie and Seal were examining. They contained guns and ammo, Seal explained to his friend, and he would be transporting this cargo on the weekend. Ferrie was paying him $400 a week to fly this stuff. $400 was a great deal of money in the mid-1950's. [22]

If the CIA was using Byrd's chapter of the Civil Air Patrol to transport illegal shipments of guns and ammo, then what could have prevented them from using Byrd's property on the corner of Elm and Houston for the same purpose? Since Dallas was a source of munitions going to New Orleans in the drive to overthrow leftist governments in Central and South America, then a way had to be found to move them secretly. Big, heavy boxes marked "Schoolbooks" would have been a handy way of delivering the goods. Perhaps that was what the "miscellaneous department" of the Book Depository was all about.

Working backwards from the fact that an assassination squad could move freely through a building without any fear of interference, there must have been some link between the building and the clandestine organizations that put together the assassination plot. Such a link would enable the conspirators to set up the ambush safely and securely. It is therefore conceivable that the secret history of the Book Depository could extend far into the past - perhaps even as early as 1945, the last year of World War Two.

I worked and flew with Adler Berriman Seal for many years. Also, I spent far too many hours on the telephone with Hopsicker (while he was shacked up with "Berry's widow) and he quotes me in his phony book.

Seal always signed off as "Berry", NOT Barry. There was NEVER an airport at LaCombe, LA, not even a private "grass strip" such as those used by crop-dusters. The nearest airport is at Slidell, some 13 miles distant towards the northeast. The next one is to the northwest at Mandeville, and almost 20 miles distant.

There was never a training camp at LaCombe, LA -- nor at Hammond, LA, -- nor at N.A.F. (LTA) Houma, LA , because the McLaney operation (involving Rich Lauchli, "Papucho" Espinoza, Herman Koch Gene, et al.) was a "Honey-Trap Op" to give the Cuban DGI Agents "handling" Ricardo Davis, Nico Crespi, and Oswald further bona fides that they were pro-Castro, and snitching out "Gusano" training/raider camps and operations.

NONE existed since we were there during early 1962, and so they had to be created out of thin air. When Paulino Sierra came down from Chicago with "Big Buck$", Sanchez Arango's AAA put on a phony show at the now defunct No Name Key site. Batista Falla (M.D.C.) wanted to sucker out some Sierra money, so he sent some clowns to Hammond, in tan/khaki uniforms but no guns. Laureano planned to sucker Sierra by making a deal with Guatemalen Roberto Alejos, who told him that any Cubans coming into Guatemala would have to chop wood, after they got work permits.

When the dumbass "Gusanos" discovered this farce, they immediately returned to Miami, went back to Flagler Surplus (W. Flagler & 17th Ave.) and traded in the khakis for 25 cents on the dollar !! Not to be outdone, Laureano had his guys grab Fernando Fernandez as a "Castro Spy". Because Fernandez was a real "Dangle', this blew a genuine penetration Op.

So, as we told Oliver Stone: We will build you a "Training Camp" (at Jean laFitte, LA); but the whole Garrison spiel on a Ponchartrain Camp is complete bullxxxx. It was Mike mcLaney doing a favor for RFK. Lauchli bitched about it later, after he had served his 2nd prison term -- and wanted to know why this whole sham went down? Especially since he had NEVER built the bomb fuses at his shop in Collinsville, Illinois.

Sorry folks, NO camps, no LHO & Ferrie, Russo, Novel, et al. -- just a pervert doing his duty for Marcello !!

    Dear Mr. Hemming,

Sorry to see your old friend hitting on hard times. Not to change the subject, [it's really the same subject]. Rumsfeld muses, "What electrode would Jesus use?" Some of us are concerned about how one human treats another. Some of us are also concerned about justice - to know the why, and the "WHO." Pinochet is a monster and an international criminal. Those who helped him rise to power should IMHO, be tried with him. You know what the D.A. says about criminals, "If you can't get them for one crime, you can get them for another." I'm sure you get my drift.

  11. The LOBO family had large sugar holdings (HAD) in Cuba. They also had a Madrid Bank that employed Veciana. On the internet I found that a member of the LOBO family had married into the Stillman Rockefeller family. (no other info). The Stillmans (SKULL AND BONES) sold most of their holdings in the summer of 63 in NY City Bank (we know as Citicorp today) to the Regular Rockefellers. This bank (HAD) handled the Cuban Lansky Racetrack moola. Both the Stillman & regular Rockefellers were part of Freeport Sulfur -connected in PROBE to DAP & SHAW. It is possible the LOBO family had Sugar interests outside of CUBA. THANKS sg

  13. Dear John, I have not read it,but it looks very interesting. Its gotten zero play in the main stream media. As to the media Re: your country -how much info has been released that the two soldiers released from the BASRA jail had been dressed as ARABS,killed several IRAQ police, had car wired with explosives for detonation ????????? As you may know , there is an internet rumor that BIG OIL/USA military can deal better with 3 stable seperate IRAQ nations...FIRST MAKE CIVIL WAR........see below...D NOTICE ?? on BRITISH soldiers creating terrorism ???? thanks sg

This is a classic case of spinning a story. The attacks on the British by the citizens of Basra are cited as proof that there can be no troop withdrawal. Left totally unmentioned is the fact that the two captured British soldiers had been caught wearing Arab clothing, sniping at police officers and driving a car full of explosives. In other words, the two undercover Brits were playing at being insurgents, confirming for many Iraqi the suspicion that much of the so-called "insurgent" bombings are actually being carried out by the occupation forces.

Obviously Britain has imposed a "D-notice" on the media with regards to this story.

  14. Fletcher Prouty in his book ,The Secret Team, discussed Allen Dulles ambition to have the CIA penetrate all areas of the US government.Prouty used the existence of a high level FAA bureaucrat that was really a CIA asset to example CIA penetration. It is my supposition that Dulles started to penetrate the US Secret Service in the early 1950s. I come to this idea by my finding the 1963 lawfirm of Scribner,Hall, and Casey in Wash. DC area. Casey being William Casey, who was identified as a POST (thats post) WWII operative of Allen Dulles in the, The Secret War Against the Jews Book.

In 1952 Dulles had a dangerous plan to aid the Republican Party's control of the US Presidency. Dulles set up the Republican Ethnic Division (aka with some variation Heritage Groups today). THe Ethnic Division was organized initially in five states. These groups in the 1950s were a danger to the Republican Party in that key leaders were made up of recent displaced WWII Fascsists,Nazi and neo-Nazis.

Though information was reported circa 1979-1980 about these groups, this information on the Ethnic Divisions was never given the emphasis it should have gotten (LIBERAL PRESS ???). Dulles set up the Republican Ethnic Division to counter the Jewish vote that he felt caused Governor Dewey's razor thin loss to Truman.

A portion of the money for the creation of this Ethnic Divison would come from the money-laundering organization, The Crusade for Freedom, which was aided by William Casey and Ronald Reagan in the early 1950s. The head of the Republican Congressional divison in 1952 was Leonard (W) Hall. Mr. Hall would also chair the Republican Party. Hall had to have full knowledge of this fascists operation. Some of the money also came from the CIA (very illegal). In 1963 we see the lawfirm of Scibner,Hall and Casey. Who was Fred Scribner ? Mr. Scribner was head lawyer for the Treasury Department from the mid 50s till late 50s and also later the Under Secretary . On the internet I found a document that had Scribner working in the hiring of IRS agents. Now Dulles was so fixated on Presidential control he started the Ethnic Divisions which could have distroyed the Republican Party.

What strenghtens this theory is that Dulles also was a friend of another Head Lawyer at the Treasury Deptment, Gasper d' Andelot Belin. Dulles, his lover Mary Bancroft, JJA (Chief CIA CI), the Belin's,and the George Bundy's (Bundy being brother of Belins wife) ,would all share lunch and tennis at the Belin's. "Nobody could beat Allen ,at tennis",mused Mary about the Belin lunches. (A very competitive man, NO ??) There are some misspellings at NARA ,but you can find that Belin did work on the still secret (along with his mother's) Oswald tax returns. It is my supposition that via his relationship with the head lawyers of the Treasury Dept, Dulles penetrated the Secret Service.

    MORE ON LEONARD HALL'S connections

    JOHN HOWLEY '29

"Pop" Howley died on Sept. 1, 2000. He was 93. At Princeton, he was Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended Harvard law school, graduating in 1932, and was with the firm of Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine until WWII, when he followed "Wild Bill" Donovan, senior partner of the firm, into the Office of Strategic Services (now the CIA), which Gen. Donovan headed throughout the war. After the war, together with Leonard Hall, who was later the Republican national chair, and William Casey, who later headed the Securities and Exchange Commission and the CIA, they formed the law firm of Hall, Casey, Dickler and Howley, a renowned law firm.

    +++++++++++++++++++++

Also in the Summer of 63 Casey and CD Jackson attended a John Birch meeting in the Hollywood Bowl. Also in attendance was Edward (Ted) Dealey, part of the family that controlled the AH Belo company. Edward Dealey had shocked Washington in October 1961 by insulting JFK at a White House luncheon. If you read Dallas Conspiracy by Peter Dale Scott ,you will see connections to the assassination from people working for AH Belo. Of note, it is was very unlike CD Jackson to attend such a low brow affair in the Bowl.

================= In 63 Casey worked with Prescott Bush Jr. in a think tank advocating a stronger CIA and increased covert operations. Prescott Bush SR (SR) had been a friend of Dulles from the early 1930s. DID SOMEONE SUGGEST THE CIA BE BROKEN INTO A THOUSAND PIECES ???????????? THANKS SG

TERROR DRILLS IN LONDON AS THE REAL EVENT HAPPENED

JULY 10, 2005. We have two articles, close to identical in many respects. Al Jazeera, and a Prison Planet piece by Paul Joseph Watson and Alex Jones. If the Jazeera article is a lift from Watson and Jones, there is no attribution.

The info indicates that there were terror drills going on at the same time, in London, as the real thing was happening. In the same places.

I have looked for massive mainstream coverage on this, but I have not found it.

Before reprinting an excerpt from the Al Jazeera piece, I want to point out two resonances. One, the many press statements following the London bombings that praised officials for being so ready and so competent and fast in carrying out their rescue and investigation tasks. Perhaps this was because organized terror drills were happening simultaneously. And two, in the aftermath of the London attacks, we have been hearing that UK officials knew all along something like this would happen, it was inevitable, there was nothing that could be done to stop it.

Bomb drill exercise simultaneously occurred as London attacks7/10/2005 8:30:00 AM GMT

A consultancy agency with government and police connections was running a drill exercise for an unnamed company which revolved around the London Underground being bombed at the exact same times and locations as was happening in real life on July 7th.

In a BBC Radio 5 interview which was aired on that very evening, July 7th, the host interviewed Peter Power, Managing Director of Visor Consultants, a firm which labels itself as a 'crisis management' advice company, also known as a PR firm.

Peter Power was a former Scotland Yard official, working at one time with the Anti Terrorist Branch.

Visor's managing director told the radio show's host that at the exact same time as the London bombings were taking place, his company was running a 1,000 person strong exercise drill in which the London Underground was being bombed at the exact same locations, at the exact same times, as happened in real life. The transcript is as follows.

POWER: At half past nine this morning we were actually running an exercise for a company of over a thousand people in London based on simultaneous bombs going off precisely at the railway stations where it happened this morning, so I still have the hairs on the back of my neck standing up right now.

HOST: To get this quite straight, you were running an exercise to see how you would cope with this and it happened while you were running the exercise?

POWER: Precisely, and it was about half past nine this morning, we planned this for a company and for obvious reasons I don't want to reveal their name but they're listening and they'll know it. And we had a room full of crisis managers for the first time they'd met and so within five minutes we made a pretty rapid decision that this is the real one and so we went through the correct drills of activating crisis management procedures to jump from slow time to quick time thinking and so on.

The fact that the exercise mirrored the exact locations and times of the bombings goes beyond to it being a 'coincidence'. According to Power the drill focused around 'simultaneous bombings'. At first the bombings were thought to have been spread over an hour, but that was later confirmed by police as being wrong and that in fact the bombings were only seconds apart, therefore simultaneous.

Whether Mr. Power and Visor Consultants were 'in on the bombing' or anything of that nature is not that important as the British government or one of their private company offshoots could have hired Visor to run the exercise for a number of purposes. This is precisely what happened on the morning of September 11th 2001 with the CIA conducting drills of flying hijacked planes into the WTC and Pentagon at 8:30 in the morning.

  17. Dear Pat, Washington Post 'red' ????? See below, I can go on all day on this. Its the CIA paper (in general), some think the CIA lefty-- the POST is establishment. You know Pat the establisment that made welfare last 5 years, the establishment that doesnt support national health care, the establishment that has Defense money equal 95 % of the rest of the world's defense spending combined, the establishment that spends billions on Export-Import Bank that sends USA factories overseas, the establishment that supports the PATRIOT ACT........ Pat I can go to FAIR and show you scores ( actually my search returned 804 items at FAIR alone !!! ) of articles that the POST supports the globalist conservative agenda. ....Perception of midwesteners that POST is 'lefty' ??, well PAT ,between u me and the tree...if wishes were fishes ,ect, ect, ect ;) THANKS STEVE GAAL http://www.fair.org/activism/post-expulsions.html , the lefty Post see http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2494 , see here POST protecting GHWB , http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1065 Dear PAT, I can list stuff till the end of time...POST conservative globalist (secular) rag-sheet that supports BUSH.

  18. Dear Pat. Bradlee is a false left man. "We" being tracked discredit the CIA. If the

CIA feels that ." Whats good for the CIA is good for the USA", then yes we are 'hurting" the USA. Per from what Ive heard from a researcher that went to NARA with other researchers = the CIA still has a active role at NARA. Ive posted here at the forum that a 40 page DOC on DEMOH,ONI,1942 is not electronically anymore listed at NARA -just a one (thats 1) pg ref that the file is in a (where??) DEMH ONI file. Mr. Simkin should note the following link, that puts Eugene Meyer and son-in-law as investors in ZAPATA. To me the file missing from NARA and decreased info on the POST owners link to one GHWB. Pat, I know you know whats on pg 42 of the Secret War Book. That Crichton and GHWB worked with business men and anti-Castro CIA

    operations.

Mae Brussell was told the DALLAS shooters came up from Mexico with the help of the PEMARGO corporation (GHWB and Edwin Pauley set up PEMARGO). Pat Im also sure you have the self-published Dallas Coinspiracy by PD Scott. Just go Chapter 9 of that book, the Robert B. Anderson Chapter.

Crichton - Harold Byrd-Edwin Pauley all know each other and Pauley worked with Robert B. Anderson on the Stolen WWII Japanese Gold operation . Crichton knows Robert Stewart III and GHWB is in business with Edwin Pauley. THUS YOU have a GHWB-Crichton-Byrd-Pauley -Anderson- Stewart III nexus. I dont believe this is in Mr. Hancock's book (since he is concerned with who LBJ met post assassination) but the longest Sunday LBJ meeting was with Robert B. Anderson. THANKS STEVE GAAL BTW PAULEY and GHWB both know DEMOH. DEMOH has Pauley listed 4 (thats four times) in his phone book volumes, also with the rare "POPPY" name next to GHWB's phone number. ALSO DPD radio transcripts show that the truck stalled on the GK (and seen by Ann Mercer) was connected to construction at the FNBD,said bank was owned by Robert Stewart III. B)

Secret admirers: The Bushes and the Washington Post

    By Michael Hasty

    Online Journal Contributing Writer

February 5, 2004—Ever since the days of the Watergate scandal, when a series of front-page articles by Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein ultimately led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon, the Post has had a reputation among many Americans as one of the elite bastions of the "liberal media."

This opinion is especially prevalent among conservatives, who also fault the Post for its publication (along with that other "liberal" icon, The New York Times) of the Pentagon Papers—an action they correctly view as having made a major contribution to undermining domestic support for the war in Vietnam. During the '70s, there was an angry conservative boycott of the paper in the Washington, DC, area, with "I Don't Believe the Post" bumper stickers appearing on cars and WP vending boxes.

At the heart of the Post's "liberal" reputation is the sense that its coverage represents the thinking of what used to be known as the "Eastern Liberal Establishment" back in the days when Republicans could be liberals (with a favorable view of internationalism and the welfare state) and before the Establishment moved to Texas and got saved by Jesus, its favorite political philosopher. This was the same period when the Central Intelligence Agency, still dominated by the Establishment Ivy Leaguers who organized the "oh-so-social" OSS in World War II, was also widely seen as a "liberal" institution.

With a 21st-century perspective, where internationalism has become globalization, and monopoly capitalism is so powerful it no longer needs to mask its agenda with welfare programs, we can see the Establishment's "liberalism" for the ruthless neoliberalism it has always been. Yet the more powerful and elite the ruling class, the greater its need for an effective propaganda system to maintain that power; and the Washington Post remains, as writer Doug Henwood described it in 1990, "the establishment's paper."

In an article published by the media watchdog group, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), Henwood traced the Post's Establishment connections to Eugene Meyer, who took control of the Post in 1933. Meyer transferred ownership to his daughter Katharine and her husband, Philip Graham, after World War II, when he was appointed by Harry Truman to serve as the first president of the World Bank. A lifelong Republican, Meyer had been "a Wall Street banker, director of President Wilson's War Finance Corporation, a governor of the Federal Reserve, and director of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation," Henwood wrote.

Philip Graham, Meyer's successor, had been in military intelligence during the war. When he became the Post's publisher, he continued to have close contact with his fellow upper-class intelligence veterans—now making policy at the newly formed CIA—and actively promoted the CIA's goals in his newspaper. The incestuous relationship between the Post and the intelligence community even extended to its hiring practices. Watergate-era editor Ben Bradlee also had an intelligence background; and before he became a journalist, reporter Bob Woodward was an officer in Naval Intelligence. In a 1977 article in Rolling Stone magazine about CIA influence in American media, Woodward's partner, Carl Bernstein, quoted this from a CIA official: "It was widely known that Phil Graham was somebody you could get help from." Graham has been identified by some investigators as the main contact in Project Mockingbird, the CIA program to infiltrate domestic American media. In her autobiography, Katherine Graham described how her husband worked overtime at the Post during the Bay of Pigs operation to protect the reputations of his friends from Yale who had organized the ill-fated venture.

After Graham committed suicide, and his widow Katharine assumed the role of publisher, she continued her husband's policies of supporting the efforts of the intelligence community in advancing the foreign policy and economic agenda of the nation's ruling elites. In a retrospective column written after her own death last year, FAIR analyst Norman Solomon wrote, "Her newspaper mainly functioned as a helpmate to the war-makers in the White House, State Department and Pentagon." It accomplished this function (and continues to do so) using all the classic propaganda techniques of evasion, confusion, misdirection, targeted emphasis, disinformation, secrecy, omission of important facts, and selective leaks.

Graham herself rationalized this policy in a speech she gave at CIA headquarters in 1988. "We live in a dirty and dangerous world," she said. "There are some things the general public does not need to know and shouldn't. I believe democracy flourishes when the government can take legitimate steps to keep its secrets and when the press can decide whether to print what it knows."

I guess it depends on what you mean by "democracy."

At any rate, this brief overview of the Washington Post's covert history serves as a useful backdrop to information revealed in "The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power," written by oil industry insider Daniel Yergin, and a national bestseller when it was published in 1991.

In a bit of fortuitous timing, Yergin's book was released in the immediate aftermath of the Persian Gulf War. He unequivocally states in his introduction that "oil was at the heart of [this war]," contradicting the denials of then-President George H.W. Bush, who had insisted in a now-familiar litany that the war against Iraq was really about "freedom." And because of Bush's own professional roots in the oil industry, and the industry's consequent influence on his policies in office, Yergin includes some biographical nuggets that shed an interesting light on Bush's relationship with the Washington Post.

Quoting from a Fortune magazine article about a "swarm of young Ivy Leaguers" who had settled in Midland, Texas, soon after World War II, and "created a most unlikely outpost of the working rich . . . a union between the cactus and the Ivy," Yergin provides an account of the early days of Zapata Oil, Bush's first company.

"Bush quickly mastered the skills of the independent oil man," Yergin writes, including, "of course, making the pilgrimage back East to round up money from investors." Here's where things get interesting. "On a brisk morning in the mid-1950s, near Union Station in Washington, DC, he even closed a deal with Eugene Meyer, the august publisher of the Washington Post, in the back seat of Meyer's limousine. For good measure, Meyer also committed his son-in-law to the deal. Meyer remained one of Bush's investors over the years."

A consideration to keep in mind here is the greater-than-even likelihood that at this point in his career, George H.W. Bush was already working as a covert CIA operative. This stems not only from his class and pedigree—Yale University had a reputation as "the alma mater of spies"—but from the fact that the CIA often "borrows" the private assets of businesses, especially those with international operations, to provide support for its covert actions. Most compelling, perhaps, is a cryptic reference found in a Warren Commission document, concerning an FBI briefing about the JFK assassination given in Texas to a "Mr. George Bush of the CIA." When asked about this years later, Bush gave the explanation that it must have referred to a CIA employee with the same name. That individual, a low level bureaucrat, denied to reporters that he had ever been to Texas, much less that in his position he would have received such a briefing.

What is particularly fascinating about Yergin's revelation of the long term financial link between Bush and the Graham family—a revelation also confirmed by Katherine Graham in her memoir—is that George H.W. Bush spent much of his political career complaining about the "liberal" reporting in the Post. Yergin, whose sketch of Bush's career covers only a few pages in this lengthy book, is slyly aware of this seeming contradiction, so he has some fun with the game Bush was playing. He includes a quote from a note then-Congressman Bush sent to Treasury Secretary David Kennedy in 1969, thanking him for meeting with some Texas oilmen at Bush's home in Houston. "I was also appreciative of your telling them how I bled and died for the oil industry," Bush wrote. "That might kill me off in the Washington Post but it darn sure helps in Houston." A curious comment indeed, considering the Grahams' investment in his business.

This arms-length public posture sometimes went to hilarious extremes. In his book, "Shadow: Five Presidents and the Legacy of Watergate," Bob Woodward includes much of the substance of a handwritten three-page reply he received from Bush denying Woodward's request for an interview. Criticizing Woodward's Watergate reporting, Bush wrote, "For me Watergate was a major event, for as you correctly point out, I was chairman of the GOP during those tumultuous times . . . I think Watergate and the Vietnam War are the two things that moved Beltway journalism into this aggressive, intrusive, 'take no prisoners' kind of reporting that I can now say I find offensive."

Just past Watergate's thirtieth anniversary, Bush's comments here bring several observations to mind that have been generally ignored. One is that there had been growing dissatisfaction among the nation's ruling class with the presidency of Richard Nixon, whose environmental and social legislation has led some revisionist commentators to refer to him as "the last liberal president." More importantly, Nixon was also seeking to reorganize the intelligence services. These facts have inspired some out-of-the-mainstream journalists, like Doug Henwood and the late investigative reporter Steve Kangas, to suggest that Woodward's "Deep Throat" contact was actually someone in the CIA. Kangas had also suggested that the semi-conscious and dying William Casey, director of Central Intelligence in the Reagan administration and Woodward's controversial leading "source" for his book, "Veil: The Secret Wars of the CIA 1981-1987," was in actuality the "alter ego" of Woodward's real source: George H.W. Bush.

In any event, Woodward's "Shadow" undercuts what he describes as Bush's "hatred" of the press with an account of an episode where the Post served to neutralize an aspect of the Iran-contra scandal that Bush saw as a danger to his upcoming presidential campaign. "On Friday, February 6, 1987," Woodward writes, "Bush dispatched one of his top aides to my house to deliver a copy of a three-page top-secret memo." He goes on to describe how, after Bush saw the headline on the Post's lead story two days later, he called the aide who had delivered the memo to offer congratulations. Woodward's judgment is that, "It was perhaps a shrewd use of the news media by Bush."

Yergin's book also discusses an illuminating episode where the Post offered protective cover for Bush. In a trip to Saudi Arabia in April 1986, then-Vice President Bush appeared to be taking a position in favor of higher oil prices that contradicted the free-market policies of the Reagan administration, and he was receiving a lot of criticism in the American media.

"Columnists denounced him for cuddling up to OPEC," Yergin writes. "Of course, within the oil states he was much commended for what he said. But outside the oil patch, it seemed that just about the only voice that had anything good to say about Bush's position was none other than the editorial page of the Washington Post, the newspaper he had once feared would kill him off for expressing pro-oil industry sentiments. On the contrary, the Post now said that the Vice President was on to a very important point in his warning of how low prices would undermine the domestic energy industry, even if no one wanted to admit it."

Naturally, it could be argued that the Graham family was merely protecting its own investments. But this protective influence extended to other events in Bush's political career, including the major scandals that erupted throughout the Reagan and Bush administrations—Iran/contra, BCCI, Iraqgate, savings-and-loan, CIA drug dealing, HUD—in virtually all of which Bush himself was implicated. As a paper of record and a news source for local and regional papers across the country, the Post was able to keep a muzzle on these scandals, and frame the national coverage in such a way that "respectable" media didn't stray too far from "conventional (which is to say, elite) wisdom."

It was a system that also served the Post's interests. The paper's standing as an important source of news was elevated by its constant diet of confidential information and intelligence leaks from Bush and his allies, and its exclusive access to the inner circles of power. Bush was also able to protect the Post from the exposure of its intimate connections with the CIA when the US Senate's Church Committee hearings were investigating Project Mockingbird in the mid-'70s. As CIA director when those investigations were conducted, Bush successfully fought the release of the names of CIA media contacts to the committee.

Following Bush's one-term presidency, the Post continued to serve the Bush agenda. It was unstinting in its criticism of the Clinton administration, and lurid and exhaustive in its coverage of the various scandals that dogged Bill and Hillary Clinton, invariably conveying the sense that the nation's capital had been invaded by so much Arkansas trailer trash. The Post's Whitewater reporter, Susan Schmidt, was such a reliable conduit of leaks and information from Independent Counsel Ken Starr (Bush's Solicitor General), that she became known to some media critics as "Steno Sue." The paper's voracious approach to Whitewater is all the more revealing in light of the fact that the Whitewater investigation was initiated in the last days of the 1992 campaign by Bush's White House Counsel C. Boyden Gray, and that—as reformed conservative David Brock documents in his book, "Blinded by the Right"—the "vast right wing conspiracy" that sought to depose Clinton essentially constituted a "Bush government in exile."

The Washington Post's traditional and solicitous portrayal of George H.W. Bush as a well-bred man of integrity has of course also been extended to his son, George W. Bush. The often absurd and transparent lengths to which the newspaper has gone to serve this function will be the subject of the second part of this article.

  19. GOOGLE HIRES DAN SENSOR. THANKS STEVE GAAL

A former Senior Associate at the Carlyle Group, Senor was briefly Scott McLellan's deputy as White House spokesman before becoming head of the the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq's information department. The White House web site bills him as Senior Advisor to Presidential Envoy L. Paul Bremer III. Fox News hired Senor as a panelist in February. While in Iraq Senor showed his loyalty by going jogging in a Bush-Cheney '04 tracksuit.

  20. I recommend the book THY WILL BE DONE as deep background for the JFK assassination. In vol 9 of Bruce Adams work you can see a copy of a copy of DEMOH's 1945 $3,500 check stamped with name NELSON ROCKEFELLER. This check was found in DEMOH's briefcase at his death. DEMOH always insisted he never was a NAZI in WWII. Per THE SECRET WAR AGAINST THE JEWS BOOK, the olds spies said that DEMOH was NAZI (not really FRENCH intel) and was turned. The check was for payment for DEMOH's work at CIAA. DEMOH also worked for ROCKEFELLER at Creole Petroleum. The Rockefeller family were in business with the Murchisons in the GSW Corporation. The GSW corporation provided the first two managers for Marina. A few months after the assassination, the president of Brazil (who JFK liked ) was overthrown and massive Rockerfeller invested surged. IMHO there were things going on via CIA Brazil/Iraq in 1963 that JFK had no knowledge. THANKS STEVE GAAL

PS DAVID was (is ??) much closer to the intel community than brother Nelson

"Thy Will Be Done", The Conquest of the Amazon:

by Gerard Colby with Charlotte Dennett

    Harper Collins, 1995. 960 pages

    reviewed by Carmelo Ruiz

Carmelo Ruiz is a Puerto Rican journalist and research associate at the institute for Social Ecology, email ise@ igc.apc.org at Goddard College, Vermont. Connect: ernail: carrneloruiz@hotmailcom

In 1976, reporters Gerard Colby and Charlotte Dennett traveled to Brazil as part of a journalistic team to write stories about the work of Christian missionaries in the Amazon basin. High on Colby and Dennett's list of priorities was to learn about a mysterious missionary organization called the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL). This outfit, also known as the Wycliffe Bible Translators, had gotten kudos from both conservatives and liberals for translating the Bible into hundreds of indigenous languages in Central and South America and helping native peoples cope with the intrusion of Western civilization into their lives.

However, Colby and Dennett had heard of a darker side to SIL. Numerous critics had alleged that SIL was the vanguard of the destruction of both the rainforests and their native inhabitants. They had heard from Latin American acquaintances that SIL was, in military fashion, a scouting party that surveyed the Amazonian hinterlands for potential sources of opposition to natural resource exploitation (read cattle ranching, clearcutting and strip mining) among native peoples and that it employed a virulent brand of Christian fundamentalism that relied on linguistics to undermine the social cohesion of aboriginal communities and accelerate their assimilation into Western culture. In addition to all this, numerous articles in the Latin American press accused 511. of being funded by the American intelligence community.

That last charge sounded particularly believable, since the authors' trip took place in the wake of recent revelations by the Church Committee of the US Senate, which investigated the activities of US intelligence agencies. It bears mentioning that Colby was by then no stranger to corporate and political intrigue. In 19 74, writing as Gerard Colby Zilg, he published Dupont: Behind the Nylon Curtain, a 600+ page tome that narrated the Dupont family's corrupt history, from its profiteering on gunpowder sales to its manufacture of ozone-depleting gases. However, don't expect to see it in bookstores. When a Dupont PR representative said the book was scurrilous and actionable, publisher Prentice Hall was intimidated into letting Dupont go out of print. (In 1984, an expanded and updated 900 page-long edition of the book was published, which included, among other things, the Dupont's little-known connection to the Nicaraguan contras. Unfortunately, it met the same fate as the previous edition.)

Dennett was also a veteran journalist, having recently been stationed in Beirut, where she covered the civil war then raging in Lebanon. The authors found SIL a veritable empire whose missionary activities spanned every country in the Amazon basin, with a network of bases that look more like picket-fenced American suburbia than the frontier outposts for the global economy that they actually are. SIL even has its own air force and communications system, the Jungle Aviation and Radio Service (JAARS), which permits it to act virtually independently from the governments of the countries where it operates. After years of research, Colby and Dennett found a number of irrefutable links between SIL and US counterinsurgency operations. Among these, SIL agressively denied that the native peoples of Brazil and Guatemala were being slaughtered by the military regimes of their countries; it allowed its base in the Ecuadoran Amazon to be used by Green Berets who were combing the Western Amazon for signs of armed insurgency; and it assisted the Peruvian air force, which had napalmed the Mayoruna and Campa Indians.

If Colby and Dennett had limited themselves to just exposing SIL, Thy Will be Done would still have been a formidable journalistic achievement. But the authors went on to research the American institutions, private and governmental, that provided support for SIL's mission. These included Standard Oil of New Jersey; the Pew family, creators of the Sun Oil Company (Sunoco) and the Pew Charitable Trusts, the US Agency for International Development, and the US military through its donations of surplus military equipment. Although they could find no smoking gun directly linking the CIA to SIL, they did find several circumstantial and indirect links, such as financial support from a foundation that was later exposed as a CIA front and the fact that JAARS's top pilot, Lawrence Montgomery, was on the Agency's payroll.

In the course of their investigation, the authors learned that SIL had a big debt to institutions and individuals associated with the Rockefeller family. SIL founder William Cameron (Cam) Townsend was inspired by the antihookworm and antimalaria campaigns of the Rockefeller Foundation and the Rockefeller Sanitary Commission, and his linguistics methods owed much to the work of linguist Edward Sapir of the University of Chicago, an institution that was also supported by the Rockefeller Foundation. Another influence on Townsend was Mexican anthropologist Manuel Gameo, whose interdisciplinary studies on native peoples were sponsored by the University of Chicago, the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Fund and the Social Science Research Council.

The last two were run by Beardsley Ruml, a member of the inner circle of the Rockefeller family. One thinker who had a great influence on Townsend's approach to native cultures was John Mott, one of John D. Rockefeller, Jr.'s most trusted envoys. Mott was a millenarian who hoped to evangelize the world in his generation, but rather than embracing fundamentalism, he rejected it in favor of a broad-minded science-based approach. In a report he co-authored in 1932 called Rethinking Missions, Mott called for more cultural tolerance and social concern on the part of missionaries working abroad and less reliance on vociferous evangelical proselytizing. Such an approach, he argued, would win more converts in the long run and neutralize the nationalistic and communist revolts then brewing in what years later would come to be called the Third World.

Colby and Dennett found the Rockefeller connection particularly intriguing, and went on to investigate the Rockefeller family's financial interests in the commercial and industrial development of the Brazilian Amazon. In 1941, Nelson Rockefeller was named by president Roosevelt to the post of coordinator of the Office of Interamerican Affairs (CIAA), which ran intelligence and propaganda operations against the Nazis in Latin America. In one of its many flagrant violations of the separation between church and state, SIL assisted the CIAA in its Intensive Language Program for American and Latin American military officers and gathered intelligence on native peoples. As coordinator of the CIAA, Nelson acquired invaluable information about Latin America's untapped natural resources, especially mineral reserves, information that ended up in his files and which he used after the war, when he formed the International Basic Economy Corporation (IBEC). This company became a key component in the post-World War Two opening of the Amazon rainforest to commercial exploitation, a process that eventually led to military dictatorships, genocide of native peoples, loss of biological diversity and unprecedented misery for the majority of Brazilians.

The Rockefeller-led effort to conquer the Amazon and exploit its natural riches had been made possible in no small measure by SIL's missionary activities. Colby and Dennett found a historic parallel in John D. Rockefeller, Sr.'s support for Christian missionaries in the American west, who were compiling extremely useful information on Native American communities, which were potential sources of opposition to the entrance of Standard Oil into their lands.' As a bonus, the evangelization process weakened the American Indians' social structure and so undermined their resolve to fight for their rights. The authors quote Baptist reverend Frederick Gates, who for many years was John D. Sr.'s right-hand man, as saying that "We are only in the very dawn of commerce, and we owe that dawn to the channels opened up by Christian missionaries.... The effect of the missionary enterprise of the English speaking peoples will be to bring them the peaceful conquest of the world."

On the other hand, it is also true that SIL's mission was greatly helped by the Rockefellers and the industrial development process that they were such an important part of. SIL's missionaries believe that when the last tribe in the jungles is evangelized, the Second Coming of the Lord will take place; so for them the race to develop the Amazon basin's natural resources is only a means to an end. In practice, this symbiotic relationship between commercial exploitation and Christian fundamentalism was a match made in hell that spelled doom for native peoples and the rainforests they inhabited.

The authors follow Nelson Rockefeller's consuming interest in Latin America: his days in Venezuela working for Standard Oil subsidiary Creole Petroleum, where he developed his concepts of corporate social responsibility; his tenure as coordinator of the CIAA; his brief stint as Assistant Secretary of State, in which he was a key behind-the-scenes player in the international negotiations that led to the founding of the United Nations and the Organization of American States; his formation of IBEC, his service to the Eisenhower administration as special assistant for cold war strategy, a position in which he was briefed on top secret CIA operations, including coup d'etats and the infamous MKULTRA mind control experiments, his membership in president Nixon's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board at a time when the CIA was destabilizing Salvador Allende's democratic socialist government in Chile, and much more.

Of special interest to Colby and Dennett were a series of by-invitation-only seminars hosted by Nelson under the sponsorship of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) in Quantico naval base during the Eisenhower administration. The Quantico seminars, known officially as the RBF Special Studies Project, advocated increased military spending and a more confrontational policy towards the Soviet Union. The participants included men who would later become instrumental in developing the Kennedy administration's counterinsurgency doctrine, such as Eugene Rostow, Edward Lansdale, Paul Nitze, Adolf Berle, McGeorge Bundy, Walt Rostow, Henry Kissinger and Dean Rusk (who was then president of the Rockefeller Foundation and would become Kennedy's Secretary of State).

The book only skims through Nelson's deeds as governor of New York, although it does mention his ignominious performance during the Attica prison uprising. Colby and Dennett focus instead on his presidential ambitions, which came to a climax with his botched attempt to beat Barry Goldwater to the 1964 Republican presidential nomination, and his international activities, such as his disastrous 1969 tour of the Americas. Nelson's crowning political achievement was getting appointed to the vice presidency of the United States in 1974. Unelected Vice President Rockefeller was then called on by unelected President Ford to chair a commission to investigate CIA abuses. As the authors point out, no one could have been less qualified for that last job.

Those who may feel tempted to dismiss Thy Will be Done's conclusions as conspiracy theory will have a hell of a time trying to refute the book's arguments and conclusions. The 830 pages of text, 92 pages of footnotes and bibliography and dozens of charts, graphs, photographs and maps eloquently document and support every single charge made by the authors. It is precisely in order to placate the skeptics that Colby and Dennett adopted this mindbogglingly exhaustive approach. In spite of this, the book is amazingly readable and does not come across as stuffy and academic.

Those who read books on American foreign policy in search of titillating revelations of sensational CIA covert operations while neglecting to study the social, political and historical context in which they are embedded will find this book a difficult, even annoying, read. Conspiracy buffs may have an encyclopedic knowledge of CIA intrigues and scandals, but they're not interested at all in doing the hard intellectual work of learning about the nature of the system of corporate profit and exploitation which intelligence agencies were created to serve. They will undoubtedly be frustrated by the book's scholarly dose of anthropology, linguistics and history, and will probably skim through the pages in search of startling revelations of covert intrigue and secret wars. The authors' implicit message to the self-proclaimed conspiracy researchers is clear: that all the muckraking investigative journalism in the world will not bring about social change if it is not accompanied by a critical analysis of the economic, political and historical context of the times we're living.

Upon a superficial examination, one would tend to think that the book will appeal to the Bible-thumping, right-wing populists of the John Birch fringe who despise the Rockefellers. This band of the American political spectrum, which has been known to publicize bizarre allegations of a Rockefeller--orchestrated plot to create a socialist world government, will be baffled and perplexed by one of Thy Will be Done's chief conclusions: that they've been had. According to Colby and Dennett, far from being a threat to the Machiavellian power of the Rockefellers, the Christian fundamentalists were extremely useful in furthering the global designs of the heirs of the Standard Oil fortune.

On the other hand, left-leaning liberals will find the book's conclusions even harder to swallow, since the Rockefeller philanthropies (which include the Rockefeller Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Rockefeller Family Fund) are among the main funding sources of liberal political activism in the US, including civil liberties, feminism and the environmental movement. Beneficiaries of Rockefeller charitable giving in recent years have included groups like Essential Information, the ACLU, the Ms. Foundation, the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund, Environmental Action, the Student Environmental Action Coalition, the Center for Responsive Politics, the NAACP who are much more likely to say, "Wait, you're being a little unbalanced. Sure, they've done terrible things in the past, but they're funding some really terrific stuff nowadays." As much as one may try to rationalize the embarassing predicament of taking money from the ultra-rich to finance social change, the question remains: What are the prospects for an American progressive agenda when it is heavily dependent on funding from a philanthropic system that owes its forhine to commercial activities that destroy ecosystems worldwide, erode biological diversity and create a holocaust for indigenous peoples? Colby and Dennett do not pose that question to readers, but it will certainly hover ominously over the mind of any American reader whose political beliefs are at least five degrees to the left of National Public Radio or The New Republic.

Thy Will be Done is a very challenging and deeply disturbing book. Although much lip service has been paid to the concept of holistic thinking, Colby and Dennett do actually put together the pieces of the macabre puzzle of the destruction of the Amazon rain-forest and the genocide of its indigenous dwellers and reach conclusions that are unsettling for conservatives and liberals alike. All or most environmentalists agree that the destruction of the Amazon rainforest can't be seen as separate from a host of social, political and economic factors in South America as well as in industrialized countries like the US, but it takes nothing less than a book like Thy Will be Done to show what this actually means.
