Bell's white lamppost on Houston Street

Recommended Posts

Great work, Chris. That signpost is a real puzzler.

Here is a plat with all the Houston Street photographers located.

Maybe it will help.

Using lines of sight of Hughes and others in which it appears, you

can locate the sign exactly.

Whats great about it Jack? With all due respect, Chris still has no clue what he is looking at. It appears you too are in the same boat. Great work Jack.

Using the plat, it is clear that Muchmore, Bond, and Martin should be in

Bell's line of sight, as he is standing behind them and slightly elevated.

However, his aim is so high that he misses them as well as the limo

near the corner. (the signpost/"light" is near the corner, if you check

the line of sight from Bell's position. The question is, what is the thing

above the endcap? It has a curved bottom, not a straight one.

Puzzling.

Craig,

Here is a shot from the other end.

I only see 1 huge lightpost.

Jack,

Thank you for the platt.

It's just not visable in that image. The pole is there, as your own image shows....

There were TWO huge lightpoles each set back about 2 car lengths from each corner. Now unless you think the corner of Elm is about two car lengths past the pole at the corner of Main in the image below....there are TWO huge light poles. The sign in Hughes is between them.

Craig,

I misunderstood you I guess.

Initially, I thought you were describing 2 huge lightposts on Houston St.

Gary Mack pointed out it was near the Main/Houston St. corner, just couldn't find a shot from that angle, until now.

thanks to all,

chris

Good work, Chris. But the "thing" on top of the post in Bell does not look the same.

And from Bell's position, I don't think he would have a view of the south face of the

sign. Check the different distances between "signs". And what on earth is the red

globe at the bottom of the top "sign"? Something is amiss here.

Chris...do you agree with my analysis?

CHRIS...there was only ONE huge light post on Houston, in the middle of the block.

See attachment. In the attachment, I do not see Bell's odd signpost, do you?

Jack

PS...Sorry about that typo. I really DO know how to spell "fluorescent".

Thanks Jack.

We now know for sure there is only the one huge lightpost on Houston.

I'm not sure about the perspective, on the sign in question.

This picture shows Bell's position when he took it, sorry you can barely see the signs.

Still looking for better/other photos.

Gary says the Skaggs photo shows Bell in it, but it doesn't show the sign, which is why I supplied this one.

He also said take a look near the end of the Bell movie.

Which I did, and I wonder what the cop is doing in relation to our lightpole in question. Rather interesting.

Bell films the limo as it turns from Main to Houston, and travels down Houston.

Skaggs photograph shows Bell up in his pedestal position.

Is there someone filming as the limo turns the corner?

I believe the other is from Skaggs also, but am not totally sure.
