John, your post is an example of the reason that you were so sorely missed, during your interregnum from the Forum.....There is a question I have always wanted to ask you considering the fact that you have always been the resident authority, in my opinion on the issue of the U S Postal Service aspect of the JFK Assassination....Harry Holmes, Jack Ruby and Lee Oswald's P O Boxes yada yada......

A few months ago I read a book entitled Fraud: The United States Postal Service and some of the fools and knaves it has known - E. J. Kahn, Jr. Harper and Row copyright 1954, 1959, 1962, 1973.

This book has material in it that literally leaps off the page, and I was wondering if you are familiar with it Example of persons mentioned Charles Jessup, a preacher that seems right out of the Albert Osborne/John Howard Bowen school of nefarious activity.....

... essentially to police the P.O., the U.S. Postal Inspection Service -- one of the nation's smallest, least publicized but statistically most effective law enforcement bodies -- gets some updated ... more » recognition in this chronicle of crimes committed via the mails. Kahn, known best perhaps as a New Yorker contributor, begins with the Crucial role the Service played in exposing Clifford Irving's Howard Hughes hoax, and then profiles fifteen other representative cases of fraud, from the blatant to the bizarre -- from post office robberies to a woman's fake marriage to the impersonation of a dying man for the purpose of obtaining life-insured loans from banks. There are stones of a gullible industrialist conned of over $400,000, a beautician who sold carbolic acid ""face peelings"" through the mails to women who wanted to look younger, a pitiable accountant from Rochester, N.Y., who appropriated clients' tax payments for himself and fled to the French Foreign Legion -- special delivery. Perhaps Kahn depends too much on the unembellished data of a postal inspector's file -- too much perpetration and not enough personality. But the book, which does not pretend to be a serious treatment of the pathology of fraud, does provide diverting excursions with some of the 1600 postal inspectors and the crooks they apprehend bulk rate (98% go to jail).

Hi Robert. No I'm not familiar with the book. Will see if I can get a copy. Interestingly the first ed was in 1954 which means it was written pre this. In 1953 (though poss as early as 1948) the USPO PI service started its cooperation with the CIA, FBI illegal mail opening ops. What to make of this? Spring cleaning followed by business as usual? In the later Senate investigation it's revealed that JC Day, Kennedy's first PMG participated (sacked mid 63(racist stance)) and his replacement did not. Nixon effectively seems to have redacted the entire service including the auto cabinet position of the PMG and replaced it with the more outsourced USPS. The names mentioned don't, at the moment, mean anything to me. Back to it it later.

After carefully aligning (to 0.02 +- 0.01 degree rotation etc at 50 % opacity, before merging the layers, set the opacity of all frames to minimum. This gives the superior smoothness and color values.

In the missing frames/nix topic the technique outlined has (deliberately) a step omitted.

After carefully aligning (to 0.02 +- 0.01 degree rotation etc at 50 % opacity, before merging the layers, set the opacity of all frames to minimum.### This gives the superior smoothness and color values.

###...and then feathering each frame, perhaps leaving one section of the frame edge in place to help pick 'jumps' that may indicate missing frames and camera movement and the movement of the person filming.

Oh.. and then duplicate the transparent composite, merge, duplicate etc unitil suitable opacity is achieved, Various analysis can then be applied that indicate that post headshot, as the limo moved along and the camera followed the limo passed through (with the help of wind) and left behind a tent like cloud.
