The Russian JFK?

I'm not as well versed in US - Soviet relations as some, and some who think they are.  Tonight, watching Oliver Stone's Untold History of the United States Gorbachev impressed me.  I lived through the time but was unaware of how large his impact on disarmament, peace and the end of the USSR was, though I'd long thought of him as the "nice" Russian. 

I didn't remember that but for Reagan's wet dream of star wars we would have eliminated much nuclear testing years before.  Gorbachev approached him leaving the conference and asked him to reconsider.
