There Were Two Arson Fires at the TSBD

OK, in 1972---

DALLAS, July 20 (UPI)—Arsonists broke into the Texas School Book Depository building today, spread gasoline across five floors and set fire to the 68‐year‐old structure where Lee Harvey Oswald waited to assassinate President Kennedy.

Firemen, aided by the vacant building's sprinkler system, extinguished the blaze within 24 minutes.

L. R. McCowan, assistant fire chief, said, “It was definitely arson,.” “We found gasoline cans on five floors and the smell of gasoline was all through the building.”

Investigation continues in book depository fire

DALLAS -- Arson investigators conducted interviews Friday for clues about a fire in the Texas School Book Depository, where Lee Harvey Oswald fired the shots that killed President John F. Kennedy in 1963.

Authorities said they had no suspects and knew of no motive for the arson that caused $250,000 in damage to the historic seven-story brick building.

Terrorism is a remote possibility, said Dallas County Fire Marshal Jim Badgett.

'We have not had any leads, and for that fire, I can assure you, they'd take credit,' he said of possible terrorists.

There were no signs of forced entry at the building, now used for county offices, and whoever set the fire may have had a key, said officials who interviewed witnesses to the blaze.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms joined the arson investigation because the fire occurred while President Reagan was in Dallas for the Republican National Convention, federal officials said.

Reserve deputies discovered the fire at 2:52 a.m. CDT Thursday while making extra patrols downtown as part of convention security. The last fire truck rolled away from the five-alarm blaze at 11 a.m.

The fire began at several points in the basement, skipped the first floor and burned on the second and third floors, Badgett said.

I wonder if there is a Mauser buried under a floorboard somewhere....  :)

Until they decided to make a JFKA Disinformation Center out of the TSBD they tried to burn it down ... makes sense to me ...

Haha.

Lots of stories of the original or real Sixth Floor window having been removed and placed into the Byrd's home.
