I have written about the relationship between Samuel Zemurray, Tommy Corcoran and the CIA in the thread on the Guatemala thread:

http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=5945

What I did not know before today was his close associations with New Orleans. Zemurray gave more than a million dollars to Tulane University, founded Child Guidance and Mental Health Clinics in New Orleans, and endowed the New Orleans Institute of Mental Hygiene.

Zemurray Gardens: Part of the former estate of Judge Hennan, father-in-law to General John Bell Hood, as well as father-in-law to John Morris, founder of the Louisiana Lottery.

Zemurray built this in honor of his son, a pilot who was killed in WWII.

Knights of the Invisible Hand

The Knights of the Invisible Hand don't care. They long for an antebellum never-land that never was. What is frightening is that they have the means and the influence to have their way, with good friends from Mayor Nagin (a former Republican) through the leaders of Congress and the President.

No one wants a return to the failed schools and death-trap housing projects of the past. That is unacceptable.

So, however, is the vision of the Knights of the Invisible Hand

Until the Joe Jones era [Joseph Merrick Jones, a member and president of Tulane's board from 1947 to 1963], the basic philosophy of the Board of Administrators over many decades could well be embodied in the idea: Don't change the status quo.” Joseph Merrick Jones did attempt to change the status quo and was killed in 1963.

That is how the FBI version of the meeting ends. According to a CIA document dated June 26, 1953, the following also occurred:

-

After leaving the FBI offices, BARRIOS and GATLIN met with a Mr. DUNBAR, who occasionally represents the United Fruit Co. in New Orleans. They asked for one million dollars from the United Fruit Co., in support of BARRIOS' intended revolutionary movement in Guatemala, but they were unsuccessful in obtaining any commitment.

In short summary, therein lies the background of Lee Harvey Oswald.

United Fruit to Tulane University, to one of the single most "right wing"/conservative organizations ever founded in the US. "FOR AMERICA".

And this does not even include the "Confederate" heritage of the individuals.

If and when you (and others) cease to look under every "rock" on which someone has painted CIA/Government, then you just may find who was actually responsible for having nurtured and nourished Lee Harvey Oswald, who in all probability, was the "Lone/Single" assassin of JFK.

An aside regarding Zemurray.

He once lunched with Vice-President Henry A. Wallace. Some of their discussion revolved around Latin America as a source for strategic material including hemp.

After lunch and as the two men parted company, Wallace said to Zemurray, "You are a surprisingly liberal realist."

Zemurray's immediate reply, "You are a surprisingly realistic liberal."

How quaint.

Zemurray below.

Crawford Hatch Ellis

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Crawford Hatcher Ellis 1

Sex: M

Birth: 26 APR 1875 in DallasCo, AL

Death: 11 NOV 1966

Note:

A History of Louisiana, Vol. 2, by Henry E. Chambers, p. 354:

Crawford Hatcher Ellis. The largest organization engaged in the handling and shipping of fruit between Central and South America and the United States is the United Fruit Company, owning and operating a fleet of steamships, and with business offices in the principal ports of the western hemisphere. The executive in charge of the offices at New Orleans almost since the inception of this company has been Crawford Hatcher Ellis.

Mr. Ellis was born at Selma, Alabama, August 26, 1875, son of Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth (Hatcher) Ellis. He was educated in public schools in Alabama, and graduated with honors in the commercial course from the Kentucky University at Lexington.

His experience in tropical products and commerce began when at the age of eighteen he went to Central America as an employe of the Orr & Laubenheimer Company, who were engaged in the crude rubber business and operated steamers between Mobile and Nicaraugua. Mr. Ellis was one o; the company's representatives in Central America until 1897, when he was put in charge of the company's office at Mobile. The following year, in 1898, when the Bluefield Steamship Company was incorporated at New Orleans, he went with this organization as accountant.

It was in December, 1899, that he entered the service of the United Fruit Company, which had been organized only a short the previously and which attracted him into its service as a young man with a knowledge of commercial conditions in Latin America. In 1900 he was appointed acting manager and in 1901, when only twenty-six years of age, was made manager of the entire southern business of this company. Subsequently he was promoted to various responsibilities in the general organization, having made a director of the company, and since then director and vice president, the positions he holds today.

He has a beautifully appointed office at 321 St. Charles Street. Among other interesting features of the office are about one dozen loving cups which have been presented to Mr. Ellis at different times and by different organizations and testifying to his capable service in behalf of various movements for the welfare of the community of New Orleans, and the South in general. Mr. Ellis organized in 1911 and is president of the Pan-AmericanLife Insurance Company. He is a vice president and director of the Whitney Central Bank. His prominence as a citizen and business man has also brought him honorary positions and titles on the staffs of Governors J. Y. Sanders, R. G. Pleasant and L. E. Hall.

Mr. Ellis takes his recreation in automobiling, fishing, hunting and golfing, and is a member of the Boston Club, New Orleans Club, Southern Yacht Club, Motor League Club, Young Men's Gymnastic Club, and the various carnival organizations. He married, April 24, 1895, Miss Inez Molett Saffold. They have one daughter, Inez Lucile, who was Queen of the Carnival in 1915 and married Mr. Franz Hindermann in

November, 1916. She has two sons, Crawford Ellis Hindermann aged eight, and Richard Lane Hindermann, aged two, grandsons of Mr. Ellis.

Crawford Hatcher Ellis

Born in Selma, Alabama, on August 26, 1875. Business Executive. University of Kentucky, 1892-93. Died, November 11, 1966.

After attending the University of Kentucky 1892-93, he began work as an accountant in New Orleans. He continued in this capacity until 1899, when he joined the United Fruit Company as manager, serving until 1909, when he was named a Vice President of the company (until 1957). He was one of the founders of the company. He had turned down an offer of the presidency of United Fruit, since it required that he move to the company headquarters in Boston.

He also was President of the Pan-American Life Insurance Company, beginning in 1912, and continuing until 1961, when he became Chairman of the Board. He owned his own company's policy No. 1, issued in 1911 for $25,000. At the time of his death at age 93, he was the oldest active insurance executive in the U.S. About a third of the company's business was in Latin America.

He was Vice President and Director of the Whitney National Bank, from 1921 until his death, and was a Director of the New Orleans & Pacific Railroad.

A Mason, an Episcopalian, and a Colonel on the staff of the governor of Louisiana, he also was Lieutenant Commander in the Transport Naval Reserve. He also was a member of the Southern Yacht Club, and was an ardent fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. He also was known as an historian, economist and humorist.
