  1. James, Thanks for the pix - What are they holding - jewel encrusted crosses? Is there a caption for this photo? Also notice that Reeves is on the board of the CAR - so he's a player and not just a money man. The Mallow article was weird for interviewing Ruth Paine and having her photo - as a resident of Philly and patron of the accused assassin, and there was a mention of the Catherwood Fund and CAR but no connection was made. Maybe it has something to do with Julio Fernandez, the third part of the trilogy - attached. And BTW James, Where's the Gold Coast - is that Sydney and east coast or elsewhere. I spent some time at King's Cross before spending a few months in Freemantle/Perth for the America's Cup back in 87'-88'. What a wonderful time and great country. What ever happened to my good friends Mel Fisher and Alan Bond? Is Bond still in jail? All the best, Bill Kelly bkjfk3@yahoo.com
  2. Hello James, Yes, it would be new to see a photo of Catherwood's wife and Reeves Wetherill, both of whom served on the Catherwood Foundation board. Also any connection to Michael Paine. Reeves, like most of those on the board, were Philadelphia area blue bloods, old money, like Catherwood himself, and like Wisner was looking for: "people with conspicious access to wealth..." I learned about the Catherwood Foundation, not through the "Invisible Government," which confirms the CIA connection in a footnote, but in a Philadelphia Magazine article about "The Philadelphia Connections" to the JFK assassination, by Mike Mallow (not by Gaeton Fonzi, who also wrote for the magazine at one time). Mallow mentions the Catherwood Foundation, one of its CIA operations - the Cuban Aid Relief (CAR), but neglects to mention the Paine's connection to either. Attached is my report on the CAR: BK
  3. Hi Bruce, I am familiar with your work on de Mohrenschildt, a complicated character indeed. He is the one who arranged for Oswald to meet Michael Paine and for Marina to meet Ruth, via Volkmar Schmidt, yet, he bows out of the game before checkmate - moving to Haiti and out of the big picture. I have a few questions about some of your points, and a few comments to straighten out some misconceptions:
  4. Hi Tim, To paraphrase Ian Fleming, if something happens one time, consider it a coincidence, twice happenstance, three times - enemy action." If LHO was indeed a lone-nut, that would have become quickly apparent, but because he was a player, albet a pawn, in the Great Game, he leads us into the maze, Angleton's "wilderness of mirrors," where there are few coincidences. As I mentioned in my review of Mallon's "Mrs. Paine's Garage" [attached], it may have been a coincidence that Michael Paine was discussing political assassinations at the very moment of the assassination, but it wasn't a coincidence that Michael Paine was the patron of the accused assassin and that Paine was at Bell Hel at the time, and that he worked there. It may have been a coincidence that George DeMohrneschildt knew Jackie O. but not that he knew Oswald, and his CIA case officer also handled Clay Shaw. It may have been a coincidence that Marie Hyde met Oswald in two different cities in USSR, but it wasn't a coincidence that one of her photos with Oswald in the picture turned up in CIA files. It may have been a coincidence that Priscilla Johnson was neighbors with Cord Meyer, Jr., but it wasn't a coinicidence that Stalan's daughter Svetlana stayed with her when she defected from USSR. It may have been a coincidence that Priscilla Johnson met Oswald in USSSR and wrote about him, it wasn't a coincidence that she got the job of writing Marina's story, leaving out the best parts. Well, You get the idea, Bill Kelly
  5. John, Because of the Wilson/Palme affair, I have been thinking a lot about Phil Agee, who was recruited out of Notre Dame by the CIA, and who, I believe, is responsible for the law that make it a crime to knowingly reveal the identity of a CIA agent. Agee identified not only the agents he knew and worked with, or knew about - like LICOVY3 of Mexico City, a double agent American student from Philadelphia who is suspected by some of being the student "Steve" or "Ed" Keenan who rode Oswald around Mexico City on the back of his motorbike, but others as well. After the agents he exposed were taken out of the field, and the networks he exposed disassembled, he came out with another book that also exposed many agents, though not Welsh - the one he is accused of exposing who was then murdered. Upon investigation, it was discovered that when replaced, the new CIA agents in embassies abroad merely took over the same offices and phone numbers as their predecessors, so it was no problem for Agee to out their replacements as well. Agee is still alive, I believe, and his take on the Wilson/Palme affair would be interesting. BK
  6. HI John and Gary, Adele is a member of this forum, and may contribute to this or the Rivera thread, but I don't think it is necessary, as she has already told us what she knows. As I mentioned in previous posts, I think that Adele has passed the test and is the real deal, even though her story is pretty outrageous. We should be able to get passed Adele to the subjects of her story - Dr./Col. Jose Rivera and SAIC of NO SS John Rice are the most important. If the combined efforts of the researchers on this forum could locate John Rice, it would be a great service to the JFK research community, as he has never testified or been interviewed properly. Now locating him and merely asking him if he recall Adele would not work, as a battery of questions on many issues come to mind, and he should be properly questioned with the right questions, and preferably under oath. The article posted is severly out of date, and some of it is wrong and must be corrected, beginning at the top with my address, email and phone number, all obsolete. I will provide correct correspondence info for anyone interested [bkjfk3@yahoo.com]. I will correct, revise and update the article when I have the time. I think that Adele has been very forthcoming and has given us everything that she has. She is also very vulnerable and as a suject of Rivera's MKULTRA techniques (as Oswald was), she is lucky to be here. In the course of my attempts to verify what Adele says, I broke her story down into a number of serials. While John thinks the Stockdale angle is important, I worked on others, including the statement Rivera made, "It will happen when the Shriner's parade comes to New Orleans." [see attachment] Rivera kept two offices, one at the NIH, where his secretary could still be alive, and another office at "Foggy Bottom," where I presume, some of his covert activities were arranged. The secretary could supply much more info, if located and interviewed. In addition, we have the 800 page Army file that Doug Horne requested for the ARRB, which gives us Rivera's stations and superiors - Brooks Medical Center in Texas, a Monteray, California base where Army-Navy research was conducted, teaching in New Orleans and Ft. Detrick, Maryland, home to the chem-bio research and MKNAOMI, the operation that I believe Lamanna and Rivera were associated. Most of my research is a work-in-progress, and I only post it, not for serious critique, but to learn what other's may know and can contribute. Locating John Rice would be the number one priority. Bill Kelly bkjfk3@yahoo.com While John is interested in Stockdale, an interesting serial,
  7. In regards to John's speculation that there is a British version of Opeation Mockingbird, I think it's more like the British developed the techniques of using journlists for espionage purposes, refined it and passed it on to us, as US mentors in the great game. The British (and Russians) had Philby, both Peter (MI6) and Ian Fleming (ONI) masquarding as journalists, Philby in Spain, Peter in China and Ian in USSR, beginning with his "coverage" of the Vics spy trial. As Oswald did returning from USSR, Fleming wrote two different stories on the outcome of the trial, then submitted the correct one when the verdict was announced. I just posted a new thread with an article I wrote about the Catherwood Foundation, with more details, and will post the article "Bottlefed by Oswald's NANA" when I find it. It's around here somewhere. Also recalled the name of the guy who bankrolled and published Gerry Posner - Harold Evans, err Sir Howard Evans, who knew Ian Fleming from their days at the Sunday Times of London, where Evans became editor. While he was known for his investigative reporting and exposing Kim Philby as a doubleagent, he failed, with Posner, to get to the truth. According to Posner's intro, Evans gave him free reign, but he must have known the slant from the get go. It's ironic that Random house, which published "The Invisible Government" by Wise and Ross, would also publish "Case Closed," one eyes wide open, the other closed. BK
  8. Shortly after the CIA was established in 1947, the British liason to the CIA was Harold Adrian "Kim" Philby, who was in the room when the director of the CIA's Office of Policy Corrdination OPC - Frank Wisner explaind how the CIA's operations were to be financed through a network of private, ostensibly philantropic non profit charity and educational foundations. The KGB new it from day one but it would be years, decades before ordinary citizens would learn about it. Among those private foundations that are entwined with the assassination of President Kennedy are the San Jacinto Fund of Texas, the Ford Foundation, the Catherwood Foundation and dozens of others. Here's what I got on the Catherwood Fund. BK
  9. James, I dug up some of my Castillo files, but they're on my Mac G3, which isn't hooked up to the internet, and is not compatable with my Dell, so I don't know if I can transfer them on text or what. In any case, since your interested, I'll review them and write a quick synopsis. BK
  10. Hi Guys, Did anybody else notice Gen. Victor "Brute" Krulak in the Penthouse story on Coply? He was Fletcher Prouty's commander, who later confirmed Prouty's identificaiton of Gen. Ed Lansdale walking in the background of the tramps at Dealey Plaza. John Newman said he was working on Lansdale, and discovered Lansdale was in Ft. Worth on 11/21/63, possibly staying in the same hotel as JFK. Also, I'm working on a review of Max Holland's "The Kennedy Assassination Tapes," and will touch on Holland's study of Soviet disinformation and the assassination, and compare it to CIA disinformation on the assassination - as propagated by Holland. BK
  11. Yo! Gerry, I have a question: Is it true that you first met Lee Harvey Oswald in Southern California - San Diego? maby? At the Mexican or Cuban counsulate? And had words with him? Many thanks for your recollections, And Gerry, I'm going to pass on your "dumn ass Peter Dale Scott" remark as a tease to see if I can get Peter to join us here and add his two cents to the proceedings. Bill Kelly bkjfk3@yahoo.com
  12. There are many interesting aspects to Jack Lawrence's story. He held a cushy job in W. Virginia, appointd by a Republican administraion, but lost it when JFK and the Democrats were elected and who he actively supported. Lawrence also worked, not directly for NASA, but a Florida defense contractor that did. He was on his way somewhere else when he got sidetracked and delayed in Dallas, where he stayed at the YMCA where Ruby kept a locker and where Oswald stayed on occassion - ie. when he returned from Mexico City. Lawrence also patronized the Dallas library, and listened to motivational tapes. Since he was working at the Dallas Ford/Linc Merc dealer, who supplied autos for the motorcade, he was aware of the visit by Oswald/Impersonator. On the night before the assassination, Lawernce admits to drinking heavily at a piano bar on Mockingbard Lane with some other people, and Beverly Oliver says that she knew Jack Lawrence and ran into him at the Cabana Lounge and danced with him while she was there with Jack Ruby and Larry Meyers from Chicago. From there they went to the Egyptian Lounge for Pizza, which is on Mockingbird Lane near the piano bar. Some night on the town. It now seems more likely that Lawrence's fellow employees were right about him getting sick since he admitted having a hangover. Attached is an article I wrote about the night before the assassination. BK
  13. Hello James, I'm more versed on Castillo than Yellow Roses. Besides the references to him in "Operation Mind Control," I finally got a copy of the Church Committee report on Castillo, which I haven't reviewed in a long time, but remember that in the end, when the FBI catch up with him at his mother's house, she says that some guys in suits and ties took him away the day before and she feared nobody would see him again. I'll see what I have on him in my old computer's harddrive. Peter Dale Scott sourced the cousin connection to Eddie Bayo, and when I asked Peter about Castillo, he said that Richard Popkin suggested not to go there. Will get back to you on it. BK bkjfk3@yahoo.com
  14. Bill can you fill us unenlightened ones in about Luis Castillo's trance-like recollections of being in Dallas on 11/22/63; sound's interesting to me. Hi Guys, Gee, I didn't realize there was so much sensitivity with the roses. I even heard from Gary Mack, who I haven't heard from in years. What an honor. I still don't know the difference, as far as social graces go, between the yellow and red roses, but I'm sure there is one. I'm more interested in the reports that I read years ago that Castillo, a pre-programed, psychotic, picked up in the Phillipines in an assassination plot, told his interrogators he was in Dallas on 11/22/63 with a team with orders to shoot somebody next to the lady with red roses. I didn't even know Jackie was given red roses that day, at the time. I don't put much credence in Castillo's story, as according to the MKNAOMI pay off report, they could only go operational when they were certain what the outcome would be, and they didn't control Castillo as he was certainly a lose cannon in their arsonal of subjects. The Church report on Castillo was kept under raps for years after the 1992 JFK Act, and was only relinquished after many inquiries, and very scary scince in the end, the FBI let him off the hook and he's still running around out there, somewhere. 15. Hi Tim, Sorry its taken so long to get back to you, but I'm working on a number of projects at once. In answer to your questions, my assertion is not that it is just a false, planted story and a hoax, but more specifically it is a perfect example of Black Propaganda - one of a number of shades of propaganda, by the guy who wrote the book on propaganda and psychological warfare, Paul Lineberger, mentor to such psychological warriors - Lansdale, David Atlee Phillips, E. Howard Hunt, Helms, Colby, et al. Linebarger was a professor at John Hops, but ran invitation only seminars out of his DC home. Unlike white, grey and other types of propaganda, Black Propaganda is made to appear as if it comes from the enemy camp. Max Holland has been hyping the Russian's take on the assassination from their files, and is trying to make the case that Garrison was duped by Soviet black prop ops re: PERMINDEX, based on the disputed source of information. Saying the source of the assassination plot is Castro, or one of his agents in Cuba, or a foreign newspaper is one thing, but actually - as the reporter notes - the source of the story is the NSA - the National Security Agency - the most super secert (after ONI) Ameican intelligence agency whose even existence was denied for decades. The NSA, as the reporter admits, leaked the memo to Scripps-Howard, the company he works for, which is among the 25 news organizations considered assets of the CIA. Now I would think that there would be an investigation into the NSA leak, unless the leak was intentional, which it was. It's a Black Propaganda operation, a black prop op, perpetuated, as Mr. Mathews clearly describes in his book, to blame the assassination on Castro. All covert operations have black prop ops run along side them as cover, diversion and attempts to control or stimulate resonses to the main cover op. Was this part of the plot to assassinate Reagan? And how did I recognize it? DAPhillips tells of one of Linebarger's lectures that includes an old joke about an immigrant to America whose first letter from home informs him that his beloved cat has died. Writing home requesting not to receive such bad news all at once, but break it down, and tell him first that the cat went up on the roof, and then later that it fell off, and then it died. The next leter merely said, "Grandmother's on the roof." Linebarger's point was for good intelligence analysts to be able to see in some line of report or news, the grain of information that alerts you that something big is up. When I saw the headline in the news that day that Castro was trying to kill Reagan, I immediately said to myself, "Grandmother's on the roof!" The NSA leak, the SHNS source, the radio intercepts, the Carcas dateline, all the dots were connected, but I didn't actually anticipate the Hinkley Hilton incident, though yes, it was most certainly a well planned and executed, but failed attempt to kill Reagan. The evidence that Hinkley and his copycat assassins (ie Richardson) were MKULTRIANS is extensive, and both John Judge and myself have written articles detailing same, which I will try to dig up. Linebarger himself however, warned his students that the psychwar strategies and tactics he taught them should only be used against other countries, and that if they were used domestically, especially in political campaigns, it would destroy democracy. I hope that answers your two questions. And Tim, is it true that Oswald was seen at Capt'n Tony's drinking a Cuba Libra? BK bkjfk3@yahoo.com
  16. Of course there's symbolism to "The Yellow Rose of Texas," about which there is a song written about. There's also some possible covert signal going on, as I think Louis Angel Castillo, the programmed assassin picked up in the Phillipines, whose interrogation sessions included his trance like recollections of being in Dallas on 11/22/63, and with a team (that included a women), ordered to shoot the man next to the women with the red roses, but were aborted when JFK killed before he got to them. It appears the MKULTRANS were busy trying to create the perfect assassins and were fine tuning their techniques. The Yellow Roses weren't just a subtle insult. BK
  17. G'Day to you James, Thanks for the Pix of Lamanna. He looks remarkablly similar to Rivera - from Rivera's photo in military files. I scanned the photo in my old mac computer and posted it at JFK Research a few years ago. I think Jack White still has the scan filed away. Maybe he can post it for us. BK
  18. John, I don't think it's fare to compare Adele and Judyth, though they both have the medical research background. While Judyth only gives info that is verafiable from books and published sources, Adele has given us literally dozens of new leads that DO check out and lead to others. Stockdale is one example. Others have done more research on his death, all I have is a newspaper clip. Other leads: Drs. Jose Rivera, his superior Dr. Carl Lamana, SS SAIC NO John Rice, Blackie's House of Beef, the New Orleans medical research community, etc. are all more significant and pan out with other leads. As for your profile of Dr. Rivera, when she met Rivera at the conference in Atlantic City Adele was a research student with a grant from the NIH that Rivera provided as the administrator. The Army Inspector General's Report on the Use of Human Subjects in Chemical Agent Research (circa 1976) notes that for the most part, subjects of MKULTRA (LSD, etc.) experiments were either prisoners, soldiers or students, and she was one of the subjects who has survived. It's time to go beyond Adele, and instead of concentrating on her, follow up on the leads she presents. Doug Horne, a military investigator for the ARRB, requested Rivera's military files and got about 800 pages, which include his background, military postings and the name of his superior on the classified projects Rivera was working on. Both in 1948 at Ft. Detrick and 1961-63 Rivera worked on classified projects under Dr. Carl Lamanna, who isolated the crystaline form of the botulinum toxin (the most poisonous poison) at Ft. Detrick and did research on Anthrax in the 50s. Dr. Richard E. Shope (U. of Iowa) says that Lamanna was with the Scientific Defense Biological Warfare Program at Ft. Detrick ( later USAMRIID). The Church Committee discovered the existence of MKNAOMI, a joint CIA-USArmy research project and covert operational base that I believe Lamanna and Rivera were affiliated with. [see attached doc.] Both Lamanna and Rivera were assigned to a joint Navy-Army research project at Monteray, Calif. at the time Oswald got out of the service and defected, and Rivera, besides being a teacher of nurses in New Orleans at relevant times, was assigned for the longest time - seven years - at Brooks Medical facility in Texas, which JFK visited on 11/21/63. While there, he broke off from the tour he was given to check out a special, new oxygen tank that could have possibly saved the life of his young son Patrick, whose medical condition Rivera was familar with from his NIH position in Bethesda, DC. The most important lead Adele gives us however, is Special Agent In Charge (SAIC) of the New Orleans Secret Service office, who she talked to on the phone before and after the assassination, and who interviewed her in NO on 11/24/63 at the time of Oswald's murder. I'm sure Oswald's sudden demise suddenly made those whistleblowers like Adele to keep quite. Rice is only mentioned in a dozen or so docs at the NARA, and in only one book as far as I can tell. Pat Lampert's lame book on Jim Garrison mentions Rice was looking for David Ferrie at one point. Then he disapears, though Adele says he was fairly young and we believe he is still alive today. There are a number of imortant witnesses and suspects who are stll alive and should be located and properly interviewed, including John Rice, Jim Braden, Steve Kennan, Don Norton, Jean Aase, Carl Mather, the mystery man in Mexico City, and the positive id of the tramps. Identifying them and their whereabouts, and asking them the proper questions would be significant, and having them testify under oath before a Congressional Hearing or a Grand Jury would be even better. Bill Kelly bkjfk3@yahoo.com
  19. Robert, What's the reference to Father Madrigal again? Is he connected to Father McCahn? BK
  20. Hello Jack White, Good to hear from you again, and for providing quick and pertinent information. I guess we should know if the Norton being quoted is Donald O. or Donald P. or another Norton. Sounds like the Honeymooners Norton. The one I met knew Mae Brussell and supported her work. In addition, I don't think it is wise for new researchers to go off hap hazzardly calling witnesses in a homicide on the telephone and asking them if they know anything incriminating. Witnesse must be approached properly by knowledgeable investigators, asked the right questions, and should also be questioned under oath - as testimony - either in Congress or a court of law (ie grand jury). Wim has also done this on occassion, much to the detriment of the case. There's a lot of research done on Don Norton, which should be evaluated before being questioned, and there's a lot more research that can be done. As for John's question about Adele Edison, she is a very compelling and courageous witness with important information, especially in regards to Dr./Col. Jose Rivera's connection to to the JFK assassination coup cabal. But I think we should start a special thread, maybe a seminar on Rivera, and ask Adele to join in. Bill Kelly
  21. Hi John, Greg, Robert et al, I think we are discussing this topic in a Mexico City thread, and I hope Joan Mellen comes back to discuss her book with us. She livies near me, north of Trenton, New Jersey, while I am east of the capitol, and teaches at Temple in Philly, which is nearby. I would like to read her book and meet up with her sometime soon. As for Keenan, after writing the article on the Philadelphia Quakers and the Mexico City connection a few years ago, I got an email from Greg in Australia and Stu Wexler in North Jersey. Greg had noticed that there was an Ed Keenan mentioned in the Warren Report, as being at the American embassy when Oswald was there. A contemporary search came up with TWO Edward L. Keenans ( - who I dubbed ELKI and ELKII), one of whom was the one at the Moscow embassy when Oswald was there. That is Dr. Edward L. Keenan, Harvard Professor at Dumbarton Oaks Research Center (1703 Thirty-second St., Washington D.C.) and specialist on Muscovite social, cultural and political history to 1700. The other Dr. Edward L. Keenan is a professor of linguistics at UCLA, who was a student in Philadelphia in the early 1960s, and worked for the State Department as an interpreter in 1963. We (Greg, Stu and myself) contacted Tony Summers, who was busy on his Sinatra book at the time, and he was kind of "stunned" that he missed the Keenan in USSR when he was running down the Keenan in Mexico City (kiddoos to Greg). So I exchanged emails with both ELKs and the one at Dumbarton Oaks acknowledged being in the American Embassy in Moscow when Oswald was there, but said he had never been to Mexico City. The Prof. of linguistics responded to my email inquiry if he had ever been to Mexico City with the quisical, "Why, did something horrible happen?" or something like that. (I have it filed away). I then talked with him on the phone and exchanged more emails with him but he at first denied being Mexico City, other than the airport. When asked about a motorcycle or motorbike, he said, "I don't drive a motorcycle," which is a little strange, as most people would have said, 'ride' a motorcycle, and being a linguist he should have been pretty precise. In addition, someone later came up with a list of participants at a confernce of linguists in Mexico City that included Keenan, so he either forgot about that or lied about it. I personally think one of these Ed Keenans could be the "Steve Keenan" who rode Oswald around Mexico City on his motorcycle and worked as a double-agent for the KGB and CIA. And if not, the Quaker Keenan from Philadelphia who was in Mexico City with Oswald should be positively identified with a little more research. Bill Kelly
  22. Hi Steve, And yes, I am that Bill Kelly, but beware, there are two Don Nortons. I think one is Donald O. Norton and the other is Donald P. Norton, though John White has done more recent research on this than I have. I met John Judge at the Univeristy of Dayton, Ohio in the fall of 1969, when I was a freshman and he had just graduated. He got me interested in the JFK assassination when he gave me a copy of the Jim Garrison interview in Playboy and took me to NYC to one of the first conferences on the JFK Assassination at NYU Law School, where I first met Penn Jones, Fletcher Prouty, Sylvia Meagher, Mae Brussell and other first generation researchers. Judge was very close to Mae Brussell and brought her to Dayton to give a lecture, which I attended. After the lecture, I carried Mae's bag of books to a car in the parking lot. A few other students crowded around her asking addional questions. After awhile one of those standing around introduced himself, saying, "Hello, Mae, I'm Don Norton." Mae stood back and looked at him, and thanked him for the contributions he had sent her. "That's my conscience money," he said. Norton mentioned that he was living, at the time, near Toledo, and since Mae was speaking in Dayton, he drove down the pike to see her. I really wasn't paying much attention, and didn't get a good look at the guy, but later on, when John asked Mae about him, Mae said something like, "He's the real Lee Harvey Oswald," and discussed how he did some of the things that were attributed to Oswald, and may have been an Oswald double. John and Mae then checked to see if they could get a copy of his signature, on a letter or a check or something, to see if it matched anything signed by Oswald, but I don't know if they actually did. More recently, John White and others have been tracking Norton's paper trail, and where he has been living. There have been reports he was living in Maryland and Florida, though I haven't kept up with the latest. In retrospect I should have paid closer attention to what was happening and followed up on it, but at the time I was a college student and not a JFK researcher, though I'm willing to meet up and talk with Norton again, if I can catch up with him. Bill Kelly
  23. Hi Dawn and John, It's nice to be admired from afar by a girl from Austin. You don't have much music down there, do you? As for the Federal Grand Jury petition, you can the petition on line at: http://www.petitiononline.com/jfkgjury/petiton.html and if not a US citizen, sign on but note nationality in order to get updates on the petiton's progress. If you can imagine a federal grand jury, similar to the one Fitz conveined for the CIA leak, you have an idea of how significant this could be in getting new testimony under oath, scientific evaluations reviewed and providing a venue for whistleblowers and new evidence. In addition, the related crimes are homicide, conspiracy, destruction of evidence, perjury and bringing the Pinkerton doctrine into play. And John, as for Buckley, I know he was involved in some Mexico City shennigans, and that the CIA most certainly bankrolled media industrially - Copley News Service (as exposed by Penthouse), Visions of Latin America and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism - so why not National Review? Just today in my local paper - Burlington County (NJ) Times (Monday, Oct. 24, 05) has a commentary: Today's conservatives owe a debt to one influencial magazine - National Review - by former editor (1957-1988) William Rusher, Esq. , now a distinguished fellow of the Claremont Institute for the Study of Statesmanship and Political Philosophy Newspaper Enterprise Association (that would make that CISSPPNEA). "...All honor then, to Bill Buckley...who analyzed America's problems carefully, and insisted upon responses to them that were not always popular, but had the supreme virtue of being right." And if those responses didn't work, then he ran a covert operation that did it anyway. I'll try to find an abstract of my COPA address "Bottlefed by Oswald's NANA," which discusses the CIA-Media ownership as it affects the Kennedy assassination. Also, Jerry Polikoff wrote a long article and gave a COPA talk on the Media and the JFK Assassination, though he focused mainly on the mainstream CBS and NYTs. BK
  24. I have, of course, encountered many theories in which Cubans were involved in the assassination. I cannot say I have met this one before, but in my own work there enough to hack at the roots of it. Oswald's movements from when he returned from Russia up to the time of the assassination are fairly well documented. I cannot see when such a liaison would be formed and even less when it could have been developed. At the time of the Mexico trip LHO was clearly being run by renegade CIA agents. It would be difficult to establish opportunity during this few days. I fully believe it was the intention of the CIA agents involved in the assassination to lay a trail leading to Cuba, therefore any evidence of this would be interesting, but it would not be likely to be significant by itself. I believe the assassination of JFK was the work of a highly competent team of (1) marksmen, (2) communications operatives, and (3) liaison personnel, and I could not remotely go with the notion of two Cuban agents carrying this out. With respect, this is little better than the Warren Report's lone gunman theory. Wayne January's fully documented encounter with a renegade CIA pilot at Red Bird airfield was very revealing. It also established that the team of assassins was great enough to require a Douglas DC3 to take them out of Dallas. I have read Mathew's book, and agree that the Second Plot to blaim the assassination on Castro is an important indicator as to who the responsible party really was, especially since this plot was put into motion before the assassination. In the course of my research I have come across many examples of the black propaganda operation that continue to this day to pin the JFK hit on Castro. One good example is the following report, which came out shortly before Hinkley tried to kill RR. BK
  25. John, I share your interest in Operation Mockingbird. The CIA's use of ostensibly independent journalists was part of the "Family Jewels," along with the assassination plots and MK/ULTRA. In another thread, I think it's on Nate Weyel, there's a list of members of an anti-Castro Cuban organization that included a few relevant people that I am familiar with - Ernest Cuneo and Virginia Prewett. Cuneo is a former OSS officer who worked with Sir William Stephenson (A Man Called INTREPID) and the Brits/Canadians in US during WWII, and with Ivor Bryce, owned the North American Newspaper Alliance (NANA), the subject of one of my COPA conference talks. I'll try to dig up the abstract, which I think is titled "Bottlefed by Oswald's NANA." Cuneo and Bryce used NANA as their own private intelligence agency, with reporters all over the world, Ernest Hemingway in Spain, Priscilla Johnson (McMillan) in USSR, Virginia Prewett in Cuba (with David Atlee Phillips), and Ian Fleming as "European Editor." Fleming even used Cueno and Bryce as 007 characters, Cuneo a Vegas cab driver in Live and Let Die and Bryce as a horse breeder at Saratoga. Phillips used Prewett (See Gaeton Fonzi's "The Last Investigation") to promote his Cuban operations. Another NANA editor who worked with Fleming is named Goldberg - the husband of Luci Goldberg, the New York "journalist" who convinced Linda Tripp to surepticiously tape record Monaca Lowinsky, which violated a state law and got Tripp into trouble. Besides NANA, Fleming also worked as an editor at the London Sunday Times with the Random House publisher of Posner's "Case Closed," not Loomis, but whose name escapes me at the moment. But he's credited by Posner in the acknoledgements as giving him the commission to write the book. In any case, Ernest Cuneo and Virginia Prewett and NANA were very much a part of the Mockingbird legacy and the CIA's Cuban ops. Bill Kelly
