Actually Steven Hager has a distinguished background. He is far from being a hack. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Hager I value his essays because they are always stimulating, even if you do not agree with their content. I have written the same before in this forum about the writings of Blair Dobson. In regards to Hager’s belief that “In fact, I’ve always suspected James Angleton wrote a secret report accusing JFK of being a Communist mole high inside the government." I myself have long harbored the possibility that some of those involved in the JFK assassination had come to question his loyalty and patriotism. His peace overtures to Khrushchev, including joint cooperation in space ventures, and his sexual infatuation in a known communist spy who had to be deported to end their relationship, could easily have raised such a suspicion. Howard Hunt and the Cuban-Americans who played in role in JFK’s murder would have thought along those lines. So would have Angleton.

Mr Caddy, Hagar, in his article, surmises Angleton "set up" Hunt, which on it's face wouldn't surprise me. Hunt though doesn't seem like the kind of man that would would lie on his deathbed to set up his son, St. John with some kind of marketable story. In Hunt's confession he fingers Cord Meyer and Harvey and describes them unflatteringly as "a men of that ilk". What do you make of his confession and it's subsequent dismissal by the both camps of assassination theorists? I also agree wholeheartedly about the Bay of Pigs. It was a shamefully executed by the CIA and the blame rests squarely on their shoulders. They knew Rusk had denied the air cover hours before the landing ships debarked. Rusk's claim that he "didn't know it was important" (speaking to the air cover) is a woefully inadequate excuse. A tragic waste of lives. Chris: The best book on Howard's confession is that written by his son, Saint John Hunt. It's titled, "Bond of Secrecy: My Life with CIA Spy and Watergate Conspirator E. Howard Hunt." It was published last year. After reading this book I became convinced that Howard in his own way tried through his confession to relate for history what really happened in the JFK assassination. The information I received months ago about release of this suppressed film originated from a source in the Intelligence Community who said that the Intelligence Community had decided to release the film in connection with the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination. Of course the Intelligence Community does not want its fingerprints on its release. It had to be done another way, which is what I wrote in my Oct. 8 forum reply. I might add that some 20 years ago I was a witness in a case before the U.S. Tax Court. The hearing was held in Dallas in a federal building that is opposite Dealey Plaza. The room was high enough up in the federal building that when I looked out its windows I could easily see both Dealey Plaza and the Textbook Depository. The thought occurred to me at the time that it would have been a perfect place to have seen what happened in the assassination. I do not know if that same federal building was in existence in 1963 but if it was (or another federal building), it would have been the perfect place to have filmed the murder, which, of course, means whoever made the film knew in advance of what was to going happen. Also on Oct 8, the date that I posted my information in my reply on the forum, I sent the same information to a major media source who acknowledged receipt of my email by commenting on it.

David: You are right. I realized some time after I posted that item that I should have used the word "film" as it was 1963 after all. But I let it ride and did not correct. As to why the Intelligence Community is releasing it now, it is difficult to divine their thinking. Months ago I got the impression it was to put finality of some sort on the assassination conspiracy theories. But that did not make sense then and it does not now. Doug

I was told the video showed Frank Sturgis as a shooter and Howard Hunt as his spotter on Dealey Plaza. Such a video being “found” and released 50 years after the event would could uproar and raise the obvious question why the Intelligence Community kept it secret for such a long time. So I concluded that if such a video does exist and if it is released publicly, the Intelligence Community would have to find an acceptable conduit to handle its sudden emergence. I once asked Howard Hunt what he thought of Angleton. This was, of course, before Watergate. We were close friends and had hundreds of conversations. In response to my question about Angleton, Howard's eyes turned away and he focused on something in the distance. He had never done that before, so I assumed that he was pondering how to answer the question. He then said slowly, "Angleton was.......unusual." That was it. Howard frequently spoke of the Bay of Pigs invasion. He was embittered by its failure. He gave me a copy of "Give Us This Day," which was his book about what had happened. He never once spoke of John Kennedy. His criticism was aimed at the leaders of the CIA whom he blamed for the disaster. Once when he, Gordon Liddy and I were having lunch at a club in the Georgetown section of Washington that had a high percentage of CIA personnel as its customers, Howard spotted Cord Meyer at another table and said something to the effect that "there's that son of a bitch." He had spoken before about Meyer and always was critical of the man.
