Germany Spy Article Germany’s domestic spy agency – the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz ("Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution", "BfV") – has recently been exposed to be spying on left-wing MPs. On January 23, German magazine Der Spiegel revealed that the BfV has been spying on MPs from Germany's largest and most successful left-wing party, the socialist Die Linke ("The Left"). According to Der Spiegel, the intelligence agency has had 27 of Die Linke's members in the Bundestag - more than one third of the party's 76 federal MPs - and another 11 members of state parliaments, under surveillance at the cost of 390,000 euros per year. This compares to the 590,000 euros the BfV spends annually on surveillance of the neo-Nazi German National Party (NPD), which has links to violent racist terror groups. Unlike the marginal NPD, Die Linke is Germany's fifth largest party, with representation in almost every state parliament and in the national Bundestag. The individuals being spied on weren't "fringe" members either, but leading party members and MPs – many of them in the party’s “moderate” wing. They include Die Linke's parliamentary leader Gregor Gysi, national co-leader Gesine Lötsch, deputy chairwoman Sahra Wagenknecht, Bundestag vice-president Petra Pau and parliamentary committee members Dietmar Bartsch and Jan Korte. The biggest surprise, however, was that Steffan Bockhahn was also being spied on. The Die Linke MP sits on the very parliamentary committee designated with overseeing the BfV's funding, Die Linke has responded to revelations by calling for the BFV to be disbanded, describing it as a threat to German democracy. Die Linke spokesperson Gregor Gysi also disputed BfV claims to have used only media overage, asserting that secret informants were employed to spy on MPs. "They lie", Gysi said. Recent events have revived accusations that German security agencies are turning a blind eye to right-wing violence in order to spy on peaceful left wing organisations and activists. Take, for instance, the so-called “Zwickau terror cell” of the neo-Nazi “National Socialist Underground” (which has close links to the NPD). Members of this group committed a series of terror attacks between 2000 and 2004 and murdered at least 10 people – nine Turkish migrants and a police officer – between 2000 and 2006. In November 2011 it was revealed that BfV informants and agents had been in close contact with the cell, yet had failed to prevent the murders, or to capture the perpetrators. A BfV agent was even present during one of the murders, yet the official line was that the murders were being carried out by Turkish gangs. German police and security agencies have a long history of associations with the far right and disproportionately using their resources against the left. When the BfV was set up in 1950, many members of the Gestapo and other Nazi secret services were drafted into its ranks, and it continued to work closely with members of the SS, Gestapo and suspected war criminals until the 1970s. It is a similar story with Germany’s other intelligence and security organisations. In 2007, the Bundeskriminalamt – the Federal Criminal Police – admitted that almost all of its top leaders immediately after WWII were former Nazis and SS members. While the annual BfV report focuses on "threats to the constitution" from both right-wing and left-wing groups, it regularly lists Die Linke and antifascist groups and their members as potential dangers. Police turn out in force at neo-Nazi marches each February in Dresden and other cities in eastern Germany to “protect” the Nazis from the overwhelmingly peaceful public opposition that outnumbers their marches. In January 2010, police and security agencies raided Die Linke’s Dresden offices, confiscating computers and all material related to the upcoming anti-Nazi marches being organised out of that office. Also in 2010, to the German Administrative Court ruled that the BfV spying on Bodo Ramelow – Die Linke leader in the state of Thüringen – was admissible, overturning the decision of a lower court. Ramelow has appealed to the Federal Constitutional Court, and the judgment is due later this year. The spying scandal has brought condemnation from across the political spectrum – even from members of the governing centre-right Christian Democratic Union. The exception is the CDU’s arch-conservative sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), which has defended the BfV’s actions. German Interior Minister, and CSU member, Hans-Peter Friedrich – responsible for overseeing the BfV’s activities – vehemently defended the spying, accusing Die Linke of being an “unconstitutional” organisation. In CSU-run Bavaria, calls have also been made to "ban" Die Link on similar grounds, and on January 31 the Mitteldeutscher Zeitung revealed that having a “connection” with Die Linke is currently grounds to bar entry to the Bavarian public service. Die Linke’s co-leader – the Bavarian unionist Klaus Ernst – criticised the rule, calling for it be overturned and suggesting that the CSU was itself in breach of the constitution.

I stumbled on the above lead. I have a lot on my plate, besides discussion with Michael Hogan. I don't know if Werner and Gunther Paetsch are relatives. I saw a cellist (John Hurt's wife, Ana Drittel was a cellist), the M.I.T. connection, while I was trying to find quick and obvious clues about why the CIA had any documentation on Priscilla McClure Johnson. We know that Priscilla Livingston Johnson was on OSS staff, was the daughter of Bar Harbor, Maine associate of the Rockefellers, Hallett Johnson, and that she married CIA's Thomas McCoy.

It is plain to see that the Rockefellers "picked up" John McCloy and Roswell Gilpatric and his brother, because they all summered together, along with John Train's father, Arthur, in the small, Mount Desert Island, Maine, community. The Gilpatrics owned cottages in Somesville; their maternal grandfather owned the cottage next

to the Gilpatric brothers' father, Walter's cottage.

this might be a step towards knowing something about peters if this czempiel is the right one. Interestingly just as there was an oswald in peters' death squad, here is another oswald. No idea how common a polish name it is but I understand it is not uncommon. Anyway, A Ewald Czempiel became Ewald Peters who ... read topic.

I cannot find an online translator who'll translate words from this. n with a line over it has become nia at least at the end of words. so bits can be translated online. It would help if someone who can read a 1950 polish document to translate this so one can see whether it can lead to anything

just took my own advice and reread it. The dutch article has him dead as Ewald Peters in 1950 . I'm curious more then at when Czempiel became Peters and what is Peters story. I've scoured old der spiegel, le monde, various other papers and various book about Adenour and Erhardt and Peters could just as well not have existed. A jstore search yielded about 1 inch buried mentions of Peters in early '63 and then ... nothing.
