Thomas H. Purvis
Tim; Perhaps the attached may be of some service to you in Key West. Although most of the "old" crowd are now deceased, there are still those who know of, or have at least heard the stories associated with the UWO School. Tom Edited August 24, 2005 by Thomas H. Tim Gratz
Very interesting, Tom! Thanks much! I like the name of the school! Bet there are interesting stories. I'm not sure if we ever posted here the story we wrote about when JFK visited Key west in November of 1962. While he was here, he visited that school. While he was here, he visited that school. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ninety miles if recalled, to Cuba. A fair number of the Bay of Pigs personnel entered the U.S. Army afterwards, at Ft. Charleston, SC. Some of whom later moved into the SF ranks. Some of whom (know of only one personally) later served with the UWO. Many good tales, some true, some probably not so true, as regards SUBRON-12 excursions to GITMO. Tom P.S. The duffle bags full of non-taxed booze, stuffed into the forward torpedo tubes on the return trip, are generally true.
