The Smathers Connection

Recommended Posts

Although much of this forum appears to operate under the "shotgun*/aka Babe Ruth**" syndrone of research:

*If one shoots enough pellets into the air, they are bound to hit something, at some time!

**No matter how many times one strikes out, if he hits a great home run then he will become known for it!

The Smathers connection(s) to the ultimate persons responsible for the assassination of JFK is a course pre-requisite if one is to come to recognize the "big money" which was behind the assassination of JFK.

It is therefore worth full exploration-----hopefully by others as well.

New Jersey's Senator-elect William Henry Smathers, hunting in Berwick, Pa., barely missed being shot by his secretary.

For some reason, William Henry Smathers changed his name to William Howell Smathers between the time that he was a NJ State Senator and the time when he became a NJ Senator to the US Congress.

Since he and George Smather's father had the same mother: Laurie Mollie Howell, cousin to Varina Howell Davis/Wife of Jefferson Davis, association with this famous (or infamous as the case may be) name appears to be the reason for the name change.

Tommy the Cork; the secret world of Washington's first modern lobbyist - Thomas G. Corcoran

Corcoran particularly loved to assist companies in deed trouble; they always paid more. In the summer of 1945, for example, Corcoran teamed with former Senator William Smathers of New Jersey in an effort to acquire a share of a lucrative sugar company from businessmen charged with tax evasion. The recordings of August 30, 1945 show that Corcoran contacted Smathers with "a case of people who are awfully scared and they might pay you desperately well.'

Corcoran explained to Smathers that he hadpersonally "made their agent yesterday understand that they were right in the shadow of the pen . . . so that they'll dig up' if Smathers could just keep them out of jail. Corcoran suggested that Smathers "could say to the Department of Justice, "You're getting the full tax and fraud penalty out of these people--there's no use in smashing up a local enterprise in my home state of New Jersey.' Get it?' Corcoran was particularly fond of having people like Smathers make the key contacts because it allowed him to increase his influence and protect himself at the same time.

So, through the wonderful efforts of Ducks Unlimited and the Wetland Foundation/aka James C. Kennedy/aka grandson of James M. Cox, close associate of William D. Pawley, the Talisman Sugar Corporation was allowed to sell back to the department of the interior all of the contaminated lands which it owned and had contaminated through sugar production, with the good ole american taxpayer picking up the tab to restore the land as well as give William D. Pawley a few million dollars "loose change" for having sold the land.

The state and federal governments had bought the 50,960 acres on the south end of Lake Okeechobee from the Talisman Sugar Corp. five years ago.

The $152.5 million purchase of Talisman Sugar Corp.'s 50,960-acre empire in Palm Beach and Hendry counties included land swaps with other sugar companies. The price was originally $133.5 million.

Corcoran's plan called for picking these clientsclean. "I think you can just take the pants off them,' he said. Corcoran and several associates would share both the sugar company and an exorbitant fee. Although transcripts don't show whether Corcoran and Smathers were able to keep their clients out of jail--Corcoran called it a "long shot'--they do show that they were paid handsomely for their efforts. Within 24 hours of the deal being struck, Smathers reported back that cash was on its way. "I told them I wanted $5,000 now and $15,000 in January. They said they would come and bring it down. . . .'

The last time someone has gone directly from the New Jersey State Senate to the United States Senate was in 1936, when William Howell Smathers, a freshman Democrat from Atlantic County, ousted incumbent William Warren Barbour by a 55%-44% margin -- helped by the coattails of President Franklin Roosevelt's 364,128 vote margin over Kansas Governor Alfred Landon. Smather's nephew, George Smathers, an Atlantic City native, was elected to Congress as a Democrat from Florida in 1946 -- part of a freshman class that included John Kennedy and Richard Nixon. He moved up to the Senate in 1950 when he defeated incumbent Claude Pepper in the Democratic primary and served until his retirement in 1968, when he left public office to pursue a lucrative lobbying career. Smathers, 92, is the second-oldest living former United States Senator

The sugar trail also winds through Philadelphia, where Dr. Enrique Menocal established the Cuban Aid Relief (CAR) for anti-Castro Cuban professionals in exile, in league with the Catherwood Foundation and one E. Wharton Shober.

Menocal was childhood friends with Fidel and originally supported the revolution and was made Director of the Sugar Institute before defecting and accusing his old friend as being crazy.

Shober, a blue blood son of a former Pennsylvania governor, he worked for a CIA front ATEK - a printing company out of Chicago that dealed in South America. He then became head of Hannanmen Hospital in Philadelphia at the time they received their CIA/USArmy medical research contracts. Shober arranged for his good friend Anastasio Somoza, dictator of Nicaragua, to recieve an honorary doctors degree from the affiliated medical college, much to the dismay of the students and faculty.

Menocal and Shober were only two of a dozen distinguished members of the CAR, and both still have family on Philadelphia's Main Line. Shober was last heard from directing a hosptial in Saudi Arabia.

Lansky's first company was Molaska, out of North Jersey. It was run, I think, by Lansky's father in law.
