John Simkin
Have you heard of Bat for Lashes (Natasha Khan). She is a primary school teacher from Brighton who reminds me of an early Kate Bush. It looks like her latest single, Daniel, is going to be a hit. I especially liked Sad Eyes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00ZHah-c0hQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1wnOUH2jk8 http://tr.youtube.com/watch?v=OoOu_LVklVk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kylberBKyc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_3E2NVWORo

John Simkin
Beautiful, John..( a bit of Bjork and Melanie there too imo )Thank you for the music... I was never an Abba fan but the last film I took my wife to see was Mamma Mia! I was amazed by the reaction to the film by the women in the audience. I suppose it reminded them of the youth (the vast majority were 40+).
John Dolva
In the seventies I found that all I wanted for christmas was a t shirt saying 'ít's not my fault' during the ABBA phenomenon in OZ, the ribbing at school wasn't much fun. In my dotage I find I couldn't care less. The fact is that their songs are full of love, redemption, coping, reconciliation and goodness, as well as some pretty clever swipes at the negatives in society. (These days my favourite t shirt says 'tell your tits to stop staring at my eyes', and it's generally women who appreciate it and give me a thumbs up. Often a couple walking towards me has the woman smiling and the man looking stern.) ''Mamma Mia'' is an americanised interpretation of some ABBA hits, yet the swedish attitudes to relationships, angst, and joy, are there to be unraveled according to the viewers capacities. I'm not surprised women find the show enjoyable. The members themselves led pretty typical swedish lives but in public, even Agnetha who oozed love and talent pre post ABBA, and later did the typical swedish Garbo. For swedes it's not particularly interesting. Couples often divorce amicably and may continue to live together because they like each other and still have separate lives and perhaps marry again later. Jealousy and possessiveness beg solutions to be found, not problems to perpetually suffer. Gender is to many a non-issue. People are basically comfy being themselves and see no right to interfere with anyone elses selves unless it's to stop them from interfering with the right of others to do so. This is typified in foreign relations as well.

John Dolva
Not youtube, not the Thames performance; the Sex Pistols in Sweden, but with footage from the Thames performance mixed in for context...haven't seen the original for years, Apparently copyright keeps it off the net. If someone has a link to the original please post. (It was performed free, ''open source'' and should remain so.) '' God save the Queen, and her Fascist Regime . . .
