  2. found this today-- sent to Morley a few years ago... Hank Albarelli <hankalbarelli@icloud.com> Tue, Jun 5, 2018, 10:44 AM Joannides & Lafitte in New Orleans, 1963 Over fifteen years ago, while beginning to research a book on the odd death of U.S. Army biochemist, Dr. Frank R. Olson, I became aware of the existence of an enigmatic character with the unlikely name Jean Pierre Lafitte. The origins of my awareness came from my perusal of the 1952 and 1953 diaries of Federal Bureau of Narcotics official George Hunter White; a September 20, 1977 article in the New York Times by investigative journalists John M. Crewdson and Jo Thomas; and the private notes and correspondence of James R. Phelan, an investigative journalist and writer, who, in the 1950s through the 1960s, was quite close to both Lafitte and White. Later, during the year 2000, my knowledge about Lafitte grew considerably greater after I was consulted on Frank Olson’s murder by investigators for New York City District Attorney Robert Morgenthau’s office. Spurred by these meetings, I made about a dozen trips to northern New England and southern Florida to interview several individuals who were close to Pierre Lafitte. About 18 months ago, while researching a forthcoming biography of George Hunter White, these interviews resulted in my gaining access to some of the personal writings of Lafitte, including his private date books, which stylistically are quite similar to those of FBN official and CIA consultant, George White. Suffice it to say, I became intrigued with the life and activities of the man known as Jean Pierre Lafitte, who beginning in 1952, through to about 1978, covertly work for the FBN, CIA, FBI, Secret Service, and INS. Lafitte also managed to carry out a number of major, international swindling schemes and operated a number of well-known restaurants. In June 1952, according to a letter by George White, the CIA officially recruited Lafitte as a “special employee” after he was summoned to Washington, D.C. to meet with CIA officials, Dr. Sidney Gottlieb and James Jesus Angleton. Wrote White: “Expecting to be at CIA only a day, Lafitte was held over for a few days. I hope to hell they know what they are in for. I suspect even to that crew that he’s one of a kind.” While at CIA headquarters, Lafitte also met Agency Security Chief, Sheffield Edwards, Frank Wisner, and Richard Helms. Subsequently, Lafitte undertook a number of covert domestic and international assignments for the CIA, including a trip to the Republic of the Congo in December 1960, which coincided with the January 1961 CIA-assisted assassination of Patrice Lumumba. Lafitte’s work for the CIA lasted until about 1978. While writing my book on Olson’s murder, A TERRIBLE MISTAKE: The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA’s Secret Cold War Experiments [Trine Day, 2009], of which Lafitte played an integral and deadly role, I could not avoid learning about a number of provocative connections between Monsieur Lafitte and Lee Harvey Oswald and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Not the least of these connections was that Lafitte, using an assumed named, throughout the 1960s lived in New Orleans. Indeed, in an incident that caused a flap at CIA headquarters in December 1969, the FBI arrested Lafitte in New Orleans. Briefly detained, he was released after a number of discrete phone calls from Capitol Hill were made to FBI headquarters. At the time of his arrest, Lafitte worked as the head chef at the Plimsoll Club, then part of the International Trade Mart. Portions of Lafitte’s date books for his New Orleans years are revealing of his dealings with various CIA officials, including at least 3 apparent meetings with CIA Western Hemisphere Division employee, George Efythron Joannides. Interestingly, Lafitte’s second encounter with Joannides occurred the second week of August 1963, just days after Lee Harvey Oswald’s Friday, August 9 arrest for provoking a disturbance through leafleting for his Fair Play for Cuba Committee New Orleans chapter. Lafitte’s handwritten notations for Friday, August 16, 1963 read: “… at Antoines room— Martello, Joanides [sic] & Labadie. Quigly [sic] interview Oswald over street demonstration. Call Holdout.” Another notation, made 6 days later reads: “Talk Joanides Cuba—refers to K Organization in Mexico— similar setup now. [D]iscuss with King, ask George and Charles about Havana, Mexico trips…” NOTES: “Antoines room” is thought to be Antoine’s, a well-known New Orleans restaurant that hosted meetings and gatherings in a number of private rooms. There are several references to Antoine’s in the date books. “Martello” appears to be a reference to New Orleans Police Department officer, Lt. Francis L. Martello; not to be confused with Francis “Monk” Martello. Lt. Martello interviewed Oswald in the New Orleans lockup on August 10, 1963. “Quigly” is perhaps a misspelling of the name Quigley. FBI SA John L. Quigley also interviewed Oswald in New Orleans jail. “Labadie” is a known alias, as in Jean Labadie, that Lafitte used often in New York City, but it is also the surname of Stephen J. Labadie, a special agent for the FBI. “Holdout” is unknown; perhaps it is a code-name for a program or confidential informer. “King” is most likely J.C. King, CIA Western Hemisphere director, but could possibly be William Harvey, as some CIA associated people occasionally and mockingly referred to Harvey as “King.” “George and Charlie” are believed to be FBN officials. 3. As a companion piece to Paul Brancato's new thread titled Mary Ferrell Lawsuit - can we get media coverage? I've launched this thread to solicit incidents of NARA's failure to comply with the JFK Records Act. If anyone has a significant outstanding FOIA, either pending or denied, they suspect might relate to the last batch of withheld files, we are asking you to provide enough details of your FOIA to add to this list that will be turned over for consideration of inclusion in the final brief filed by Larry Schnapf and the legal team suing the Biden administration. I plan to add details of the FOIAs for Jean Rene Marie Souetre and the missing Dallas INS report(s) once I've received confirmation of the history behind J. Gary Shaw's lawsuit in pursuit of same (hopefully by Mar 23). I hope readers/members will give this invitation some thought in the very near future, and add to the list as appropriate. It's my understanding that the final brief is due April 27. I. Denied FOIA — files pertaining to Jean Rene Marie Souetre. II. Denied FOIA — files pertaining to Dallas office of the INS report(s) for November 22-26, 1963 III. IV. V. VI. VII.

  5. Justice for Kennedy Act of 2023 sponsored by an Arizona representative David Schweikert calls for release of all assassination records within 30 days of its enactment AND overrides the Deed of Gift and tax records exemptions. The bill has been referred to the House Oversight, Ways and Means, Judicial and Intelligence Committees. Please write the chairs of those committees and ask them to hold a hearing on HR 637 during Sunshine Week (March 12-18th). https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/637/text
  6. I appeared on The Mother of All Talk Shows in the UK 🇬🇧 tonight with the great George Galloway to discuss the JFK Assassination, the CIA, and the files our government still won’t let us see after nearly 60 years. The JFKA segment starts around 1 hour, 10 minutes — but I highly recommend watching the whole show if you can. George did an amazing monologue and the always-erudite Chris Hedges was on in the first hour.
  7. It only took 2 hours for Gerald Posner to review ALL those new JFK Assassination documents today. (speed reader extraordinaire!) He was quick to assure the public on Dan Abrahms News Nation prime time evening show that there’s “nothing to see here.” Welp, I guess that seals it. No need to actually read all those thousands of files, then. Gerry just saved us all a crap ton of work! 😝
  8. Jeff Morley announced late last night that The Mary Ferrell Foundation will be holding a presser at 10 a.m. Eastern today to respond to the JFK Files release. I asked Jeff if there’s going to be a livestream link where reporters can join in from afar. I live too far away to attend in person. Will keep ya posted.
  9. @26:00 the behind the scenes maneuvering between Trump, the intel agencies, Congress, and the National Archives over these documents is a helluva story! Thanks Larry for that FOIA request. It revealed sooo much about how things really work in Washington, District of Criminals…

  12. CAPA Citizens Against Political Assassinations Washington, DC Dear Friends and Associates: As a researcher and/or student of the JFK assassination, you may be aware that The JFK Act of 1992 requires the release of all government records on the assassination of President Kennedy by October 2017. The president of the United States at that time will be responsible for its enforcement. Our recently formed nonprofit organization, Citizens Against Political Assassinations (CAPA) will continue the fight we started decades ago to get the law passed and ensure this Act is enforced as well as undertake similar national initiatives on other political assassinations to see that the truth is revealed and justice prevails. To do this we need your help and support. CAPA plans to pursue the release of the remaining JFK records, file Freedom of Information Act requests for more records, take legal actions to enforce the law and undertake public education efforts to ensure that the forces that orchestrated such assassinations will no longer be able to influence government policies. These initiatives require funding to be effective. Please help by joining us and providing whatever financial support you can afford, volunteering your time as part of a CAPA Committee, contacting your congressional representatives, and spreading the word on social media about CAPA, our mission, programs and legal initiatives.Time is running out to do something about these horrific crimes and cover-ups. There is power in numbers so join this worthy endeavor to bring truth and justice to those who have been killed for their beliefs. Thank you. 13. THE MAY 29TH MOVEMENT – FREE THE FILES NOW JFKcountercoup: May 29th Movement - Free the JFK Files Now – Oversee and enforce the JFK Act, release the Bay of Pigs Reports, the Joannides files and all the remaining government records on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy - May 29, 1917 – November 22, 1963 Pursing the Negative Template Most American presidents and historical figures are honored on their birthday, but few people would know that May 29th is the birthday of John F. Kennedy, the thirty-fifth president of the United States, and instead, we think of him on the day he was murdered. While his birthday goes unrecognized, everybody who was alive at the time or with any sense of history registers November 22 with the assassination of President Kennedy, just as December 7th and September 11th are recognized as watershed benchmarks of modern American history. John F. Kennedy was born on May 29th 1917 in the master bedroom on the second floor of 83 Beals Street, Brookline, Massachusetts. The Harvard educated Navy war hero would be elected to Congress, serve as a U.S. Senator and President of the United States until he was assassinated while riding in a motorcade through downtown Dallas on November 22, 1963. Although the Kennedy family says they would rather celebrate JFK’s life, administration and policies rather than his death, they are annually seen kneeling by the eternal flame at the Arlington grave site every November 22nd, and his life and policies go generally unheralded as we live through the 50th anniversary of his administration. The Bay of Pigs was duly noted, the establishment of the White House Situation Room (WHSR) was honored by naming it after Kennedy, and the Cuban Missile Crisis will be remembered, but the 50th anniversary of the assassination is greatly anticipated with a plethora of feature articles, books, documentary films and major motion pictures due out over the next few years. This renewed interest in the assassination is expected to fuel the debates over whether the assassination was the act of one deranged gunman or the result of a well planned and successfully executed conspiracy, and add credence to the call for the release of the remaining records related to the assassination that are still being withheld by the government. Conspiracy theorists, who outnumber those who defend the Warren Commission’s lone-gunman conclusion by an eight to one margin, are both united in the call for the release of all the remaining government records on the assassination, which was mandated by a law that is not being effectively enforced.\ The JFK Act of 1992, although “the law of land,” has seen no Congressional oversight despite the flagrant destruction of files, the loss of many records and the continued withholding of thousands of records, in the name of national security, despite the fact they were created nearly fifty years ago. Professor Peter Dale Scott, who has studied the assassination closely, suggests a “Negative-Template” thesis in which the most significant records are those that are destroyed, missing or with held, and that any investigation of the assassination itself should focus on those records. There are a number of active efforts underway to replicate the destroyed files, locate those that are missing and to free those that are being withheld, all without the support and cooperation of Congress, the courts or the administration. Despite the reluctance of Congress to conduct oversight hearings of the JFK Act for the past fifteen years, there is an active internet lobby effort to at least try and convince Congress to do its job, however unlikely that seems. The courts have recently ruled against release of the remaining withheld internal CIAreport on the April 17, 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, and seem reluctant to order theCIA to release their operational files on the now deceased CIA officer who ran the anti-Castro Cuban group that the accused assassin associated with, and who later effectively stonewalled the House Select Committee on Assassination (HSCA), assigned to investigate the assassination. The President, in his first act in office, issued an Executive Order that called for the implementation of a new policy of transparency and open government, and established the Declassification Review Board, which at first said it was going to place a high priority on topics of public interest, including the JFK Assassination, but has since back-tracked and may not pursue any JFK assassination records at all. Jim Lesar wrote a letter requesting the NARA to A – that goes unanswered, as does the suggestion for the NARA to create a special project to declassify the JFK Assassination Records, as they have done with the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis. When the NARA asked for public input, Dan Alcorn suggested they create the special assassination records project, and with over three dozen public votes and positive comments, the suggestion was the top rated idea presented on the public forum. Yet, NARA has so far failed to respond. The JFK Act requires all the records to be released by 2017 but it is widely expected that the CIA and other agencies will request the President to continued withholding these records indefinably on grounds of national security. This date should be accelerated and the records released by 2013, which can happen if they are included among the records reviewed by the NDC. Regardless of whether there was a conspiracy to kill President Kennedy, there is certainly one to hide the true record of his death, as a group of distinguished British historians put it, “there has never been a more subversive, conspiratorial, unpatriotic or endangering course for the security of the United States and the world than the attempt by the United States Government to hide the murderers of its President.” It is now in the interests of national security, not to withhold the remaining records on the fifty year old assassination of President Kennedy, but to release them to the public. The May 29th Movement is hereby launched in order to support of all of these efforts to free the JFK files, and to call attention to and build national momentum towards a release of all the remaining JFK assassination records by 2013. The true legacy of President Kennedy cannot be learned or honestly debated until all of the records are released the public. May 29th – JFK’s birthday June 10th – JFK Monument – American U. Oct – AARC Conference on JFK Act – 20 Years Later Nov – Dallas COPA Oct 2013 – CWCFS Conference Pittsburgh Nov 2013 – Occupy Dealey Plaza in a call to fee the remaining records JFKcountercoup: May 29th Movement - Free the JFK Files Now
