In April 1961 Gen Edwin walker was fired from his post by President Kennedy. He was accused of encouraging far right wing elements within his command, and distributing JBS/KKK propaganda to the troops, he was, at this time, a member of both the JBS, and the KKK. Senators including Albert Gore ® suspected that Chief of staff Lemnitzer was was also involved with Walkers extremist right wing beliefs.

Lemnitzer was a secret op expert, who was heavily involved with the allies "stay behind network" Its work included recruiting ex Nazi agents to help fight against the Soviet union, and help war criminals escape justice by arranging flights to, and bolt holes in Latin America, later to enter the US by the back door. Recently published correspondance by Lemnitzer showed that he, and other high ranking officers, including Curtis Lemay, were conspiring against JFK,s policys in particular his refusal tto involve the US army in Cuba following the BOP fiasco, they accused kennedy of being a coward for refussing airforce support for the Cuban counter-revolutinaries. It was a direct consiquence of this thinking that Op northwoods was concieved, this was of course rejected root and branch by Robert McNamara which, to put it mildly graetly upset Lemnitzer, and the plans main architect Gen William H Craig. This provoked a six months stand off between the Kennedy administration, and the Joint chiefs of staff, after which Lemnitzer was dispatched to Europe as head of American forces. Before leaving he ordered all copies of the Nortwoods document to be destroyed, but unknown to him McNamara had kept his copy of the secret report, which only surfaced decades later.

I found the direct reference to strategy of tension stuff with Op Northwoods interesting. Any idea on who he worked with in Italy and Germany. What other Americans were working with him at the time?

I strongly recommend this essay by Ganser. It also mentions a french rightist by the name of

Yves Guerin-Serac who wrote about "Strategy of Tension" tactics. Does anyone know if he was involved in the

De Gaulle assassination attempts? Any known CIA connections to this guy. I think this strategy of tension history must be forcefully interjected into as many US websites as possible! This is no time to be bashfull about the Strategy of Tension.

Nat, and Lee thanks for giving this thread cardiac massage, for a good timeline on operation sunrisetry hereI have long believed that Lemnitzer, LeMay and Dulles were the prime movers behind the assassination, of course the logistics would have been farmed out to cold warriors like Lansdale Robertson and Craig. The moment Kennedys proxy, Macnamara forced the JCS, and certain elements of the Cia to eat humble pie over Northwoods, was the moment that sealed the Presidents fate. The only thing that could have saved him was if he was facing certain defeat in 64.

The stay behind network was concieved by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and put into operation in 1948 by the National security council, staffed, and funded by the CIA. Ultimately coordination of the network took place under the auspices of NATO, it involved personnel from the official security sevices in each country, and received covert funding from industry, and the State. Funding, and support of such groups was one of the main tasks of the formed CIA, however members of the network were mainly recruited from the civilian population, noteably "Ex" fascists and others whose anti Communist credentials were unimpeachable, no matter what horrors they were responsible for during the war years.

The existance of the stay behind network was not a matter for public knowledge, however, the activities of the Italian branch-operation Gladio-was exposed in a sries of judicial investigations between 1990--1992.

Operation Gladio was set up in 1958, with help from the British intelligence (MI6) and the CIA. This assistance continued with the units being trained in Britain in the early 70s, and by the US, at a military base in the Canary Islands from 1966--mid 70s. Gladio had strong links with P2, a Fascist masonic lodge composed of top military officers, Political leaders, Industrialists, Bankers and Diplomats. P2 has, with good cause, been described as constituting a Fascist parallel Government in Italy.

Gladio was deeply involved in the so called "Strategy of tension" in the late 60s, and 70s. The aim ofm this stategy, of which the priciple tactic was "false flag terrorist outrages" carried oput by the fascists, was to spread panic, and fear within the general population, and to directly attack the Left and provoke them into an armed responce, which would both justify increased State power, under the pretext of a "National emergency", and isolate the Left from popular support(sound familiar?) In an early, but well known incident, a bomb was exploded in Dec 1969, at the Banca Nazionale Dell Agricoltura in Milan, Police, and Government officials immediately blamed, then arrested anarchists, but it later emerged that the real perpetrators were the Fascists Franco Freda and Giovanni Ventura.

Often unnoticed is that Lansdale wrote a memo of a 16 Mar 1962 meeting with President Kennedy and Lemnitzer, in which Lemnitzer brought up the Northwoods idea again (it had apparently been shot down by McNamara a few days earlier). According to the memo:

"General Lemnitzer commented that the military had contingency plans for U.S. intervention. Also, it had plans for creating plausible pretexts to use force, with the pretext either attacks on U.S. aircraft or a Cuban action in Latin America for which we would retaliate.

The President said bluntly that we were not discussing the use of U.S. military force, ..."

Regarding pretexts, it's also interesting that a cache of rifles allegedly supplied by the Cubans was found in Venezuela in late November 1963. Was this yet another staged part of the failing attempt to get a Cuban invasion out of the JFK assassination?

both his own and the American establishment's political and economic goals.

Noel Field

One religious individual, Noel Field (American Quaker, Unitarian and Marxist) was used by

Allen Dulles to manipulate religious relief organizations in World War ll, and in the

post-war period Dulles finally utilized Field to help destabilize Communist Eastern Europe.

Dulles apparently collaborated in this plan with Jozef Swiatlo, a Communist, CIA double

agent, who later surfaced in the Warren Commission's Kennedy assassination investigation of

Lee Harvey Oswald.

Albert Schweitzer College, the Unitarians, and U.S. Intelligence

Swiss-based Albert Schweitzer College had major religious origins that were both social and

political. Post-war liberal Protestant movements in Europe, including the International

Association for Religious Freedom, helped to create the college in Switzerland, the country

at the center of Allen Dulles' fifty-year spy program. In the U.S. the college was supported

by a powerful coalition of American religious liberalism, primarily the Unitarian Church,

the Unitarian Service Committee, and the American Friends of Albert Schweitzer College.

Albert Schweitzer College's history strongly suggests that American espionage assets helped

establish the college and then used it, possibly with the knowledge and even cooperation of

some of it's supporters in the Unitarian Church movement and those who worked for the

college in Switzerland.

One leading Unitarian who worked closely with both U.S. intelligence and the military in the

40's and 50's was President of the American Friends of Albert Schweitzer College, exactly

when Lee Harvey Oswald applied. That same intelligence -connected Unitarian worked with a

second influential Unitarian to help control U.S. space programs, including the U.S.

overflights, and in the 60's, that intelligence -connected Unitarian fronted for a major CIA

proprietary. Those who set policy for Albert Schweitzer College were, therefore elite

members of the establishment and allies of the CIA,. In 1959, Lee Harvey Oswald registered

to attend Albert Schweitzer College and therefore became a direct link between the college

and American intelligence.

Whoever masterminded the Oswald college action was knowledgeable about both the OSS's and

the CIA's use of Quakers, officials of the World Council of Churches, and Unitarians as

contacts, assets, and informants (often as double- agents) AND about the FBI's

responsibility in tracking down and identifying Soviet illegal and double agents. Oswald

was, therefore, a creature of someone in American counter intelligence who possessed

precisely that double body of knowledge.

Oswald: the Imperfect Prospect

At the same time that the Albert Schweitzer College was extending its international

recruiting effort, both the Soviet and American Illegals and False Identity programs were

operating. For those espionage groups, Lee Harvey Oswald initially looked like a candidate

for their intelligence operations. But Oswald was an imperfect False Identity/Illegals

prospect. A faulty False Identity operation had apparently been carried out using Lee Harvey

Oswald and run by a branch of American intelligence.

Oswald's imperfections were certain to trip counterespionage alarm wires. The context of the

Oswald "legend" game was Switzerland, earlier the center of massive spy operations run by

Allen Dulles in two world wars and the following cold war.

Oswald had called maximum attention to his strange exit from the Marines, his dubious trip

to Europe, his suspicious registration to the Albert Schweitzer College, his failure to

arrive at the college, and his so-called defection to the Soviet Union. In a very short

time, Oswald pilled up obviously faulty documents and suspect postal communications. What

followed was a major FBI inquiry in 1959 and 1960 that apparently attempted to find then

missing Oswald. Oswald's Marine Corps record, including his Pacific duty experience and U-2

service, made him a prime candidate for Soviet civilian and military intelligence, and both

American and Soviet intelligence groups were aware of his candidacy.

Oswalds' espionage activities most probably included information he gave the Soviets

concerning U-2 flights, leading to the collapse of imminent Soviet/American peace talks. He

was also apparently scheduled to play a part in exposing Soviet intelligence moles in

activist student movements and liberal Protestant institutions like Albert Schweitzer

College in both Europe and the United States.

>From the moment Oswald registered to attend Unitarian sponsored Albert Schweitzer College,

and without ever setting foot in Switzerland, Oswald moved (or was moved) to the center of a

complex and dangerous double-agent operation.

Lee Harvey Oswald looked-possibly too obviously like a false defector. When he returned to

the United States as a redefector from the Soviet Union, he was suspect: at least five

intelligence agencies (the GRU, KGB, CIA, FBI and ONI) found his curious false-identity

profile highly suspicious. But that same profile was extremely well-suited to those who

ultimately planned to murder President John F. Kennedy. Oswald could be manipulated, like

the religious institutions that American intelligence had used through fifty years, in a

half-dozen ways and in a half-dozen on-going espionage games.

Oswald: Perfect Patsy

Why had Oswald become the designated lone assassin patsy in the JFK murder?

Six years (or more) of complex and questionable U.S. intelligence and espionage activities

with their initiators, sponsors, and handlers were threatened if a full investigation of

Oswald were held after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

The threat ran from the very top of the American establishment to the grunt levels of the

American military and intelligence.

After the JFK murder, a real investigation of Lee Harvey Oswald would have been closely

covered, for example, his probable "Marine" intelligence activity, his Cuban contacts, his

mail coverage by the CIA's HTLINGUAL program, the Agency's multiple "mole" inquiries, the

real origins of Albert Schweitzer College, Oswald's Fair Play For Cuba Committee

connections, and his plot against President Eisenhower. A real investigation would have

closely examined the persuasive but circumstantial evidence of his employment (after his

return to the United States from the Soviet Union) by a yet-to-be-discovered "private

investigative agency doing industrial-security work and funded by either U.S. intelligence

in the U.S. military. Peter Dale Scott has called attention to the "numerous signs that

Oswald's [post-defection] employment recurrently coincided with opportunities for

surveillance of FBI subversive targets."

But Oswald apparently was the field asset of "other investigative agencies as

well....[including] the Alcohol. Tobacco, and Firearms unit...of the U.S. Treasury. Though

Oswald's targets were or seemed to be those of the FBI, he was more likely to have one

federal government agency. Therefore, any examination of Oswald's real work history, after

returning from the Soviet Union would have been a disaster, not only for government

intelligence, but also for private "intelligence" in the industrial-security" area.

Each node of any real post-assassination investigation would have registered multiple

extensions, each of those nodes would have been recognized, for example, as a psychological

warfare operation. Examining HTLINGUAL, in depth would have required a close look at U.S.

illegal and False Identities operations, to U.S. Intelligence to U.S. intelligence's misuse

of domestic and foreign postal systems, to the abuse of liberal Protestant institutions in

the U.S. and in Europe, and to the grey history of Albert Schweitzer College. And examining

the oil/intelligence/Unitarian complex in Dallas would have meant exposing the Osborn

family, character witnesses for Ruth and Michael Paine, as intimate associates of the U.S.

elite establishment, the U.S. military, U.S. Intelligence, the government's psychological

warfare and behavior modification programs, an its key Cold War covert operations.

At the end of each of these potential investigative extensions was the enigmatic Oswald. Lee

Harvey Oswald became, therefore the perfect patsy, manipulated finally in the deadliest game

of all in Dallas, on November 22, 1963.

“According to secret and long-hidden documents obtained for Body of Secrets, the Joint Chiefs of Staff drew up and approved plans for what maybe the most corrupt plan ever created by the U.S. government. In the name of anticommunism, they proposed launching a secret and bloody war of terrorism against their own country in order to trick the American public into supporting an ill-conceived war they intended to launch against Cuba.”

“Codenamed Operation Northwoods, the plan, which had the written approval of the Chairman and every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called for innocent people to be shot on American streets, for boats carrying refuges fleeing Cuba to be sunk on the high seas, for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington D.C., Miami, and elsewhere. If Castro failed to provide that excuse, perhaps, he said, the Untied States ‘could think of manufacturing something that would be generally acceptable.’ What he was suggesting was a pretext – a bombing, an attack, and act of sabotage – carried out secretly against the United States by the United States. Its purpose would be to justify the launching of a war. It was a dangerous suggestion by a desperate president.”

“Although no such war took place, the idea was not lost on General Lemnitzer. But he and his colleagues were frustrated by Kennedy’s failure to authorize their plans, and angry that Castro had not provided an excuse to invade.”

Concerned that General Lansdale’s various covert actions plans under Operation Mongoose were simply becoming more outrageous and going nowhere, Robert Kennedy told him to drop all anti-Castro efforts. On February 20, 1962, Glenn was to lift off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on his historic journey. The flight was to carry the banner of America’s virtues of truth, freedom and democracy into orbit high over the planet. But Lemnitzer and his Chiefs had a different idea. They proposed to Lansdale that, should the rocket explode and kill Glenn, ‘the objective is to provide irrevocable proof that…the fault lies with the Communists et al Cuba [sic],’ This would be accomplished, Lemnitzer continued, ‘by manufacturing various pieces of evidence which would prove electronic interference on the part of the Cubans.’ Thus as NASA prepared to send the first American into space, the Joint Chiefs of Staff were preparing to use John Glenn’s possible death as a pretext to launch a war.”

“Amusingly, one of the most important pieces of information to come along came not from NSA intercepts of a diplomatic cable to Moscow but from a ten-hour interview Castro gave to Lisa Howard, a reporter for ABC News. In the interview, Castro clearly indicated for the first time that he was hoping for a rapprochement with the United States. The CIA acquired a transcript of the interview secretly, through an NSA intercept before the broadcast….”

“…Throughout the summer of 1963, there were endless discussions of sabotage – which targets to strike, what kinds of explosives to use, whether the strike should come from inside Cuba or outside it, whether local volunteers or paid agents should be used. But even while the CIA hawks were plotting their campaign of sabotage, a group of Kennedy administration doves, including UN ambassador Adlai Stevenson, were working on another track. One thing has distubed me since learning about Operation Northwoods: what if Nixon had won the election? Would his administration have nixed the project?

I know many of the key players were gone by then but did anyone try to revive the plan under LBJ?

There would have been no need for Northwoods, which was generated in early 1962 as part of the desperation over Cuba. It's very likely Nixon would have made sure the Bay of Pigs succeeded, sending in Marines if necessary. Then the Cuba problem wouild have been "solved" early in his term.

THE CIVIL/MILITARY COMBINE

President Kennedy once stated "the very system of government is

in dire peril and may not survive my term in office." Kennedy was

describing the severe threat posed by extremely powerful cooperative

civil and military sedition at work.

Leaders of the {LDS/JBS rebellion were advising their legions by the

put our weight into the political scales in this country just as far and

fast as we could.

For unless we can eventually, and in time, reverse by political action,

the gradual surrender of the United States to communism, the ultimate

alternative of reversal by military uprising is fearful to contemplate....

intend to continue for hundreds of years in control, under the titles of either

It was my impression that even under Ike the idea behind the BOP was that US involvement was supposed to be covert and it was meant to appear as an autonomous group of Cubans and was based on the premise Cubans on the island would rise up against Castro. The amount of troops need to take over Cuba against the will of the people would have been enormous, I doubt even Nixon would have done so without a casus belli.
