Guest Robert Morrow
(I encourage folks to post their top 10 or top list of JFK assassination books. This could be a very useful thread for folks.) Also, here is my Amazon Listmania: http://www.amazon.co...?ie=UTF8&lm_bb= Here is a superb Amazon Listmania focusing on Lyndon Johnson: http://www.amazon.co..._res_rpli_alt_1 Also, please google "LBJ-CIA Assassination of JFK" Here is my updated blog list of almost 1,000 books relating to the JFK assassination: http://lyndonjohnsonmurderedjfk.blogspot.com/ You can learn a lot by reading books that are peripheral to the JFK assassination. Here are some books relating to the JFK assassination that I think are extremely helpful. I ranked them in order of useful knowledge as for who and why they murdered John Kennedy. My current belief is that Lyndon Johnson made a dirty deal with CIA Republicans to murder John Kennedy (mafia and anti-Castro Cubans would be subcontractors to CIA in this scenario). Forget the Carribean, Lyndon Johnson was running Murder, Inc. down in Texas, as he was using Cliff Carter and Malcolm Wallace to murder people (Henry Marshall, June 1961, one example). LBJ had so much criminal and political liability, he literally had to murder to keep from being indicted or kicked out of office at the least. What are YOUR favorite JFK related books and why? Which ones should I add to this list or emphasize in my very rough "rankings." I always love to hear what JFK books people like to read. Or books that help one understand the JFK assassination such as books on LBJ, CIA, Allen Dulles, James Angleton, Edward Lansdale. Keep those picks coming so I can add MORE to my list. If you want to get quickly "up to speed" on the JFK assassination, here is what to read: 1) LBJ: Mastermind of JFK's Assassination by Phillip Nelson 2) JFK and the Unspeakable:Why He Died and Why it Matters by James Douglass 3) Brothers: the Hidden History of the Kennedy Years by David Talbot 4) The Dark Side of Camelot by Seymour Hersh 5) Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty by Russ Baker. 6) Google the essay "LBJ-CIA Assassination of JFK" by Robert Morrow. 7) Google "National Security State and the Assassination of JFK by Andrew Gavin Marshall." 8) Google "Chip Tatum Pegasus." 9) Google "Vincent Salandria False Mystery Speech." 10) Google "Murray Rothbard the JFK Flap" 11) Google "Bertrand Russell 16 Questions on the Assassination" 12) Watch on You Tube the extremely important videos The Men Who Killed Kennedy, episodes 7, 8, and 9 which focus on the role of Lyndon Johnson. 13) Watch on You Tube Jesse Ventura's show on the JFK assassination. 14) Watch the movie JFK director's cut by Oliver Stone. 15) Watch on You Tube "Evidence of Revision." 8 hours of fantastic and rare footage relating to the JFK assassination. Another key point: Lee Harvey Oswald was U.S. intelligence and he shot NO ONE on 11/2263. Re: Oswald's intelligence connections read 1) "Oswald and the CIA" by John Newman 2) "Spy Saga: Lee Harvey Oswald and US Intelligence" by Philip Melanson 3) "History Will Not Absolve Us" by Martin Schotz (Chapter V Oswald and U.S. Intelligence by Christopher Sharrett) 4) "Me and Lee" by Judyth Vary Baker (Oswald's mistress in New Orleans, summer 1963) Also, an EXCELLENT resource for finding books related to the JFK assassination, conspiracies in general and the Kennedy family is the Last Hurrah Bookshop, run by Andy Winiarczyk. His phone is 570-321-1150. http://www.lasthurrahbookshop.net/ (Be sure and skim down to book #110 and then see my more recently revised rankings of this list. There is a much larger, better organized list below #110.) 1 Texas in the Morning: The Love Story of Madeleine Brown and President Lyndon Baines Johnson Madeleine Brown 1997 Conservatory Press 2 Blood, Money & Power: How L.B.J Killed J.F.K. John Simkin
Bob: I hate to tell you but number 36 by exposed forger Gregory Douglas is a hoax that was exposed a long time ago. Guest Robert Morrow
Thanks, Jim. I think I am also going to compile a list of the WORST JFK assassination books, and I will be sure to include this along with the ultimate HOAX book the Warren Report (NY Times edition at that). 36 Regicide: The Official Assassination of John F. Kennedy Gregory Douglas 2002 Monte Sano Media = HOAX [Note from Robert Morrow, 3/19/11. I looked at the book Regicide and I find it to have some very valuable information in it, whether it is a "hoax" or not.] Keep those picks coming folks - a lot of good JFK books are really books that touch on a key aspect of it really well, such as a good James Angleton biography. Or a book on anti-Casto Cubans. Or a book like History Will Not Absolve Us by Martin Schotz. I focus on books that cover the Lyndon Johnson and CIA aspects of the JFK because that is who I think murdered John Kennedy. Also, in addition to your favorite JFK books, how about some that are the worst, most misleading out there? No citing Reclaiming History or the Warren Report. Pick the other losers. François Carlier
Here is the list of my 10 favorite books on the Kennedy assassination: 1. Dale Myers, With malice : Lee Harvey Oswald and the murder of Officer J.D. Tippit, Oak Cliff Press, 1998 2. Gerald Posner, Case closed, Anchor Books, Doubleday, 1993 3. Jim Moore, Conspiracy of one, The Summit group, 1992 4. Vincent Bugliosi, Reclaiming history, Norton, 2007 5. Larry Sturdivan, JFK myths : a scientific investgation of the Kennedy assassination, Paragon House, 2005 6. Larry Sneed, No more silence, University of North Texas Press, 1998 7. Mel Ayton, The JFK assassination – dispelling the myths, Woodfield Publishing, 2002 8. Hugh Aynesworth, JFK : breaking the news, International Focus press, 2003 9. David W. Belin, Final disclosure, Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1988 10. Cathy Trost & Susan Bennett, President Kennedy has been shot, Newseum, 2003 Actually, to me Dale Myers's book is the best, but I'm not sure about which order I should sort the nine others out. I do think that by reading those 10 books one can reach the proper conclusion, get rid of farfetched theories, and safely and seriously claim to know exactly what happened in Dealey Plaza. Anyway, I have a question for James DiEugenio. You have included the book "Reasonable Doubt" by Henry Hurt, in your list. Then, let me ask, what do you think of the chapter titled "The Confession of Robert Easterling" ? Do you believe his story ? Just a question. /F.C./
William Kelly
Hello Francois, No wonder you think the way you do. Dale Myer's book came out at the same time I was asked to make a presentation to a college criminal justice class that went to Dallas for an anniversary of the assassination to view the crime scenes first hand. When shown a copy of the book, and asked my opinion, I opened the book to the part where he writes about Wes Wise and the Carl Mather/Collins Radio connection, which Myers' mearly dismisses as a coincidence. When the class got to Dallas, I arranged for Wes Wise to give them a bus tour of assassination sites and tell them his story first hand, as opposed to reading Myers' or the HSCA versions. Myers was signing copies of his book in the book (sic) store, and I asked him about the Wise Allegation that he dismissed, and showed him the real story that Tony Summers' mentions in the notes to his book NIYL, which at least called attention to the still uninvestigated leads it presents. Myers book is intentionally misleading, not only in regards to the Wise Allegation, but also in regards to Tippitt himself, his relationship with his girlfriends, his job at the BarBQ that was owned by a JBSer and the DPD. If Myers book is your only source for the Tippit murder you have been badly misled. In looking over your list, I believe they all are under the misimpression that Lee Harvey Oswald killed JFK because he was crazy or what's the motive again? And Francois, if you've read all of those good book, then certainly you or someone among you list can tell us when Lee Harvey Oswald decided to kill the President, can't you? Now if only I can get any one of these people or anyone who actually believes what they say to enter the debate - JFK Assassination Coincidence or Conspiracy? - But I don't believe anyone who thinks it was a coincidence is up to the challenge. Guest Robert Morrow
Who Killed Kennedy by Thomas Buchanan Whitewash by Harold Weisberg Accessories After the Fact by Sylvia Meagher The Assassinations by DiEugenio and Pease The Last Investigation by Gaeton Fonzi Spy Saga by Philip H. Melanson James Jesus Angleton, the CIA, and the Craft of Counterintelligence by Michael Holzman The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence by Marks and Marchetti The Last Investigation by Gaeton Fonzi keeps coming up on people's lists. I know lots of people have asked me some questions or have challenged me in this forum. Thank you. Well, let everybody know that I shall answer every point. I owe it to all those who have spoken to me. I was away for a while and today reading the "Lifton vs Fetzer" thread occupied 100% of the time I had allotted to JFK. But I shall soon reply to you, don't worry. I shall be honest, sincere and frank. I have A LOT to say. /F.C./
Guest Robert Morrow
Francois, Thank-you for your contribution. I am also building a list of WORST JFK assassination books and I am sure most of that list will be on it. However, there are a lot of JFK books where I might agree with 80% of the book and disagree with 20%. For example I am not sold on the corpse snatching scenario in Best Evidence - which I really don't think is a very good book, BUT I am sure there are parts of Best Evidence that I agree with 100% or chapters from which I can learn. Jim DiEugenio - nice run down of the FOUR Magic bullets ... lot of black magic early on in the JFK non-investigation. To Everyone else - keep those JFK book picks coming!! Please tell me your favorite books and point out the books which you think are really bad. Final point - How much money did Bugliosi get for writing Reclaiming History? ... big money right and promotion ... ok, how many copies did he sell? Just wondering. Consider this, I wrote it in response to distortions I read in the Washington Post on the occasion of the death last December of the good doctor, Malcolm Perry.: Anybody think my critique of Patricia Sullivan's commentary was too emphatic? The Daily GoodbyePatricia Sullivan Good morning. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postmorte...oodbye-125.html M.O. Perry, one of the surgeons who operated on a dying President John F. Kennedy, has himself died in Texas. He lived to regret an offhand comment that fueled conspiracy theorists for decades. Of whether the bullet hole, which he used to perform a tracheotomy, was an entrance or an exit wound, he replied, "It could have been either." He later said he thought it was an exit wound.... Comments Ms. Sullivan, in your first sentence, you wrote: "Of whether the bullet hole, which he used to perform a tracheotomy, was an entrance or an exit wound, he replied, "It could have been either." Where did you get that? It is a lie, a deliberate distortion. These are Dr. Perry's OPPOSITE, actual, initial comments to the press: http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/press.htm "PRESS CONFERENCE PARKLAND MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DALLAS, TEXAS NOVEMBER 22, 1963 2:16 P.M. CST AT THE WHITE HOUSE WITH WAYNE HAWKS ...QUESTION- Where was the entrance wound? DR. MALCOM PERRY- There was an entrance wound in the neck. As regards the one on the head, I cannot say. QUESTION- Which way was the bullet coming on the neck wound? At him? DR. MALCOM PERRY- It appeared to be coming at him. ... ..QUESTION- Doctor, describe the entrance wound. You think from the front in the throat? DR. MALCOM PERRY- The wound appeared to be an entrance wound in the front of the throat; yes, that is correct. The exit wound, I don’t know... ..DR. KEMP CLARK- The head wound could have been either the exit wound from the neck or it could have been a tangential wound,..." Fetzer, Ph.D. McKnight Professor Emeritus University of Minnesota Duluth http://www.d.umn.edu/~jfetzer/ Quoting "François Carlier" <Fra-Carlier@orange.fr>: Hello, everybody, Doctor Perry (Rest in Peace, you were a fine man !) once wrote a letter to me, a very nice letter, in which he answered my questions on the medical evidence and gave his opinion. I quote him in my book "Elm Street". It is absolutely clear that he sided with the Warren report. He was an honest man who "was there", saw the body, and did not buy the conspiracy idiotic theories. He certainly did not believe a word of Lifton's theory. Everybody should know it. As for me, if I have to choose between, on the one hand, doctor Perry, and on the other, the likes of Lifton or Groden, ... boy, the decision is quickly reached !!! May God bless Doctor Perry. /François Carlier/ How do you do it...dismiss the historical record, and why do you do it? It just seems what you do, and with so much resolve, is kinda creepy, why would you bother? I see a distortion, vs. the record of what was said in real time, Dr. Perry, fresh from treating the fatally wounded president, speaking to the press in his own words, emphatically. Why are you so bent on changing it?
Michael Hogan
Francois, No list would be complete without Gerald Ford's classic Portrait of an Assassin. Ford released his book within mere months of the government printing of the Warren Commission's 26 volumes. In it he wrote: At each turn in the investigation Commission members hoped they could find some new fact that would turn the clock back, or at least make the sorrowful events meaningful. But there was no meaning beyond the will of the killer to pull the trigger. Many Americans were beginning to shake their heads at the Warren Commission's failure to find a motive for Oswald. Portrait of an Assassin provided damning insight into the inner workings of Oswald's mind. Ford ascertained that the murderer of President Kennedy did not make up his mind until the night of November 21st. Portrait of an Assassin was co-authored by John Stiles but it was Ford's name that gave the book it's credibilty. Gerald Ford decided not to share with his readers that he was a conduit of sensitive information about the workings of the Commission to the FBI. (1) Although he broke the law by publishing information that was still top-secret, little ever became of it. And Ford became the first and only Commission member to write and profit from his tenure on the Commission. Eight years later a Warren Commission lawyer, David Belin would release You Are The Jury, another book that reiterated that Oswald was a lone assassin. Belin called the Tippit killing the "Rosetta Stone" to the solution of President Kennedy's murder. Belin wrote: Once it is admitted that Oswald killed Patrolman J. D. Tippit, there can be no doubt that the overall evidence shows that Lee Harvey Oswald was the assassin of John F. Kennedy. But back to Gerald Ford. He was responsible for correcting a final draft of the Commission's findings to read neck wound instead of back wound. Of course Ford chose not to share that with his readers either. It only became known many years later. Already on a political fast track, Ford was appointed vice-president by Nixon in the wake of Agnew's resignation. Oddly enough, he became President of the United States when Nixon resigned. Ford thus became the only person to serve as vice-president and president without being elected to either office. Two of President Ford's most meaningful acts were to pardon Richard Nixon and to create the Rockefeller Commission which "investigated" the CIA and certain aspects of the Kennedy assassination. Many proponents of Lee Oswald's lone guilt believe that Gerald Ford was the greatest president in US history. Certainly Portrait of an Assassin has stood the test of time for those who think the Warren Commission conducted a thorough and honest investigation into President Kennedy's murder. Written more than twenty years before any of the books listed below, by someone who was there, it richly deserves a spot in the top ten of anyone who believes that the Warren Commission got it right. 1) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/07/AR2008080702757.html Here is the list of my 10 favorite books on the Kennedy assassination: 1. Guest Robert Morrow
Michael Hougan, preach, brother, preach! You left out the THIRD notable thing that Gerald Ford is known for and it is a biggie: APPOINTING NELSON ROCKEFELLER as Vice President! And who do you think was the #1 pick for Lyndon Johnson to succeed him in 1968?? Guess. Hint it was not Hubert Humphrey, it was not Eugene McCarthy and it damn sure was not Robert Kennedy or Richard Nixon. It was NELSON ROCKEFELLER!!! Hmmm that cover up artist Gerald Ford and that (in my opinion) plotter to murder JFK, Lyndon Johnson, - both sure do think A LOT of Nelson Rockefeller, don't they? Not only was JFK estranged from the Texas oil, military, Southern power base, JFK was ALSO not plugged into the NY Establishment, NY Times, Council on Foreign Relations and the Rockefellers were his enemies. Note: the Rockefellers made a TON of money off oil (Exxon, Standard Oil) and Nelson suggested to JFK to use tactical nuclear weapons against North Vietnam. From Defrauding America, Rodney Stich, 3rd edition 1998 p. 638-639]: “The Role of deep-cover CIA officer, Trenton Parker, has been described in earlier pages, and his function in the CIA's counter-intelligence unit, Pegasus. Parker had stated to me earlier that a CIA faction was responsible for the murder of JFK … During an August 21, 1993, conversation, in response to my questions, Parker said that his Pegasus group had tape recordings of plans to assassinate Kennedy. I asked him, "What group were these tapes identifying?" Parker replied: "Rockefeller, Allen Dulles, JOHNSON of Texas, GEORGE BUSH, and J. Edgar Hoover." I asked, "What was the nature of the conversation on these tapes?" I don't have the tapes now, because all the tape recordings were turned over to [Congressman] Larry McDonald. But I listened to the tape recordings and there were conversations between Rockefeller, [J. Edgar] Hoover, where [Nelson] Rockefeller asks, "Are we going to have any problems?" And he said, "No, we aren't going to have any problems. I checked with Dulles. If they do their job we'll do our job." There are a whole bunch of tapes, because Hoover didn't realize that his phone has been tapped.
