  1. John: No, I cannot name any specific Sandinista leader that would have been targeted. CIA Legal Counsel Lawrence Houston in April 1972 made the pitch, with Howard Hunt's concurrence, that I should consider becoming a CIA agent and that if I were to agree to this, my assignment would be to construct and open a luxurious seaside hotel in Nicaragua to which the Sandinista leaders would be lured and compromised. The pitch was in general terms with no names provided. I knew that this was something in which I did not want to get involved but responded to Houston and Hunt that I would think about it. Less than two months later, Watergate broke and the pitch became moot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandinista_National_Liberation_Front

  4. JFK’s proposal to Jackie at Martin’s Tavern is ‘legend’ no more Washington Post June 23, 2015 By Emily Heil http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/reliable-source/wp/2015/06/23/jfks-proposal-to-jackie-at-martins-tavern-is-legend-no-more/ [When I was a student at Georgetown University from 1956-60, I dined frequently at Martin's Tavern on Wisconsin Avenue not far from the campus. After JFK and Jackie got married they lived in a Georgetown-type house on N St, halfway between the Tavern and the university. [in the Watergate case in 1972, a person that I learned later was retired NYPD detective Anthony Ulasewicz was assigned by John Dean to recruit me to pass "hush" money to the defendants. He suggested to me on the phone that we meet at Martin's Tavern to discuss the matter. Jerome Powell, the managing partner of the law firm for which I worked, nixed the idea immediately and said that if the unidentified person who was calling me on the phone had anything legitimate to discuss, he should come to our law firm to do so. I turned down Ulasewicz's offer in a telephone conversation over the July Fourth holiday in 1972. After the "hush" money scandal broke in the spring of 1973, I told the prosecutors that had the meeting gone forward at Martin's Tavern, I would have ordered its oyster stew, which was so delicious I remember it to this day.]

  13. From the Wall Street Journal article: The same cannot be said of “One Man Against the World: The Tragedy of Richard Nixon,” by former New York Times reporter Tim Weiner. This is little more than another anti-Nixon hit job—as if the world needed any more of those. Mr. Weiner does not attempt to sketch Nixon’s entire life and focuses solely on the presidential years. http://www.wsj.com/articles/our-most-peculiar-president-1434748763

  16. Here is the memorandum that JFK signed ten days before his assassination: https://research.archives.gov/id/193642 Here is a past posting in the forum on this memorandum: http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=15472 Google also placed these forum postings among those dealing with Memorandum 271: http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=19433 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=17083&page=3 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=3017 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=9487 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=2696
  17. The photo posted on the forum was not posted by me. When I signed on to join the forum in 2006, another member posted that photo before I had a chance to insert the one I had selected. Since I was the new kid on the block I decided not to make an issue of it and let it ride. Here it is nine years later.
  18. Brian: I had the same reaction as you did. Weiner fails to mention that it was LBJ who got us deep into Vietnam, issuing a new policy in 1963 within days of JFK's assassination. It was LBJ's payoff to the military-industrial-oil-intelligence complex. Nixon inherited that mess -- really a tragedy-- when elected in 1968. He quotes only Philip Habib in support of his thesis that Nixon sabotaged the peace negotiations and prolonged the war. Weiner comes across as overly biased.
  19. http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=21985&page=2 Earlier today I posted a link to the New York Post article along with other links to relevant articles that have been posted over the years by members of the forum. See the above master link for this list of links. I have not read the book reported by the New York Post. It has been my policy, which I have stated many times, on the forum, to post articles dealing with the JFK assassination whether I agree with them or not. I have my own opinion as to why JFK was assassinated but in the interest of the market place of ideas I am always willing to examine any thesis and any posting of information. That is how one reaches a mature, unbiased judgment on any issue in life.

  22. In response to the above comments: Karl: In my interview I never said that JFK’s September 1963 speech before the U.N. dealt with the Alien Presence. I said that his speech dealt with international cooperation between the Soviet Union and the U.S. in exploring outer space and a joint landing on the moon. Ron: I waited until now to tell about my dinner with Howard Hunt in 1975 for the same reason I waited until last November to tell my story about Watergate. As I wrote in the last two paragraphs of that document that can be found in this forum: “President Nixon’s cosmic downfall because of Watergate was, in my opinion, blowback or what goes around, comes around, or perhaps a morphed form of Karma. This was because the principal purposes of the burglars going into the Democratic headquarters, in addition to getting lists of the clients of both the female and male prostitution rings thought to be there and to plant a new wiretap bug, was also to copy secret Cuban government intelligence reports suspected to be there. The documents linked through a chain of events a decision by Vice President Nixon in 1960 to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy three years later. It was about that “Bay of Pigs” thing. Possible possession of the reports by the Democrats, which included additional intelligence as to persons involved in JFK’s assassination, if released publicly during the 1972 presidential campaign, posed a serious threat to Nixon’s reelection but an even far more serious one to the CIA for its role in the assassination. “But that is a story for another time.” The “story for another time” is my 1975 dinner with Hunt. The invitation to do June 11th video interview abruptly came my way and I decided to do it before I reduced my remaining story to full written exposition. I had been delayed in writing because I caught something between the flu and a really bad cold that took almost a month before I gained all my health back. I had been waiting for some time for a news peg that would make my story about Watergate relevant and fresh after some 40 years. That news peg finally arose last year when John Dean published his book, “The Nixon Defense: What He Knew and When He Knew it.” In his book Dean failed to disclose that starting April 25, 1972 (less than two months before Watergate), I had been assigned by the Lawyers Committee for the Reelection of the President and my law firm to do ordinary campaign legal work under his direction and also that I had refused to accept the “hush money” that Anthony Ulasewicz had offered me upon orders from Dean. Dean never told Nixon about these two important matters as shown in Nixon’s Oval tape of July 19th. My memoir is not only about my role in Watergate but is also an expose of John Dean’s betrayal of President Nixon and the country because he had his own personal secrets to protect. So both my memoir on Watergate and my interview about the 1975 dinner with Hunt have come late for the reason described above. By the way, Pulitzer Prize winning reporerTimWeiner’s new book “One Man Against the World: The Tragedy of Richard Nixon” went on sale just yesterday. Kirkus Reviews writes, “It speaks volumes about Nixon that there is still more to learn about him, 40-plus years after Watergate… [it] is even worse than what we knew.” Also, Ray Locker’s book, “Nixon’s Gamble” was published only a few weeks ago. http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=21991 My memoir and video interview reveal “there is still more to learn…” Larry: You write that you "totally agree with Ron on MJ12 which is a horrible diversion and with Karl as well in regard to the JFK assassination.” It was about a year ago that you were claiming that the “Texas Connection” involving Mac Wallace and the fingerprint issues were diversions and declared that Joan Mellen was going to settle those issues once and for all with a new book. I subsequently answered all questions posed to me by Joan, a widely admired scholar and author, and also provided her with new information that might prove helpful. However, the decision has been reached not to publish her book on the “Texas Connection.” It would appear that anything that does not fit into a certain embraced paradigm is a diversion. So I assume the following entries on the forum are diversions also: http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=12302 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=18360 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=14740 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=15062 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=11564 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=8675 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=17966 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=21623 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=18714 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=8289 http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=15829 There are additional entries in the forum but those above are worth reading unless you have a pre-conceived idea that they are diversions.
  23. Paul: I would prefer to let Howard Hunt’s words speak for themselves as reported in the video rather than attempt to summarize them. As to whether one should believe Hunt, I would point out that he was an OSS agent during WWII and then became a CIA agent when the CIA was formed in 1947. He was close during the subsequent years to the CIA leadership. He admired the Dulles brothers and ghost wrote Allen Dulles' classic best-seller, "The Craft of Intelligence." CIA director Richard Helms kept Hunt's books on display in his CIA office and in 1969 even placed Hunt in the Mullen Company, which was a CIA front organized by the CIA in 1959 (although I never knew this until Senator Howard Baker issued his supplement to the Senate Watergate Committee report.) Hunt also was close to Lawrence Houston, the CIA's legal counsel who had come aboard when the CIA was first organized. At their invitation I met with them both in April 1972, two months before Watergate broke, at which time they sounded me out as to whether I would become a CIA agent. That question became moot when Watergate broke later. I have no proof but I have come to believe that Lawrence Houston knew of Hunt's plans for the Watergate break-in. Hunt's primary loyalty was to the CIA, not to Nixon and the White House even though Nixon had come to know Hunt in 1954 because of Hunt's involvement in the CIA Guatemala operation that overthrew the country’s alleged communist president. The bottom line is that Hunt was wired enough in the intelligence community to know about the Alien Presence. I posted this link on the EF this morning that elaborates on the Brookings Institute report. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brookings_Report
