To clarify, I don’t mean to imply that there were no political commonalities between the right wing and some of those in government that you mention. I merely meant that some may have had different motivations for their actions.

That's the problem, It was so long ago I can't remember where I saw it... may have been in the J. Evetts Haley collection, in a Christmas card that Surrey sent ( they were close for years). If it was I don't have it as they wouldn't let us copy the cards for fear of potential damage.. That is just a guess, I really can't recall, though I have a clear picture of him in my mind...

The film I saw was similar to this one Chris and Paul, but there was a better shot of Walker and Surrey inside the car. I saw it at The Miss.State Archives in Jackson Mississippi;

I don't see him there Paul. Surrey has a full head of hair in the pics I've seen. Not many around, the one that stands out in my mind was a news reel of Walker arriving at Oxford Miss. in a station wagon, driven by Surrey. I'm straining my brain to think of where there might be others.

Phoebe Courtney was also one of the first to broach the feeling that Oswald shot at Walker, in a personal letter to Walker, she points this out to Ted as a feeling she previously contemplated. I don’t have this letter at hand, but I will try and locate as I saw it recently in my files. This was after the FBI’s " discovery" of LHO’s so called letter of instruction to Marina (12/ 2-3 /63)

The Schmidt Brothers, Oswald, and the Walker Shooting Incident

On December 29, 1977, Earl Golz, the reporter for the Dallas Morning News who covered Kennedy’s assassination from the beginning, wrote to General Walker in response to materials that Walker had sent to Golz and Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill, perhaps relative to the HSCA investigation that began in 1976 and concluded in 1978. (Although, O’Neill did not serve on the HSCA.) The letter is as follows:

Dear Mr. Walker,

I received a copy of the material you sent to Tip O’Neill and others. It may open some eyes and I hope it does. I am especially interested in Marina’s message on the back of the photograph which you say was dated five days before the shot fired at you by her husband.

A friend of Larry [sic] Schmidt’s recently told me that Larry and his brother, who he says was then associated with you, had accompanied Oswald in the brother’s car to the scene of the shooting. Larry Schmidt supposedly has protected himself since that time by placing written accounts of this story in safe deposit boxes around the country.

I also wonder if you know there is any truth to the story that Delessips [sic] Morrison had a hand in forcing you to retire as an army general in West Germany. If his name rings a bell as an agent of JFK in such a mission, this may open some new doors. Morrison was reactivated into the military as a favor to JFK, I was told, in an effort to get you in the Blue Book controversy. He was killed in an airplane explosion over Mexico about four months after the assassination.

Interesting! I recall Hemming saying that Walker was not alone that night as well. He never named that person, wonder if he was referring to Surrey. If this is true, it has huge implications. It also means Walker and Surrey lied about that night.But verifying any of this will be difficult at best.

“Loose lips sink ships” as they say. However, I can think of more than a few who were likely to have knowledge, due to their closeness to Ted. For example; Robert Morris, Billy James Hargis, and J. Evetts Haley for starters…all of them trusted friends, confidants and advisors to Walker. Of course there had to be others that were ‘plugged in’ in order to pull off a plot, but that’s a larger story.

Walker was a trained military officer who knew the value of surprise and secrecy. Although he liked to brag about his political life, and seek attention, I don’t think he would or could be, as candid about something such as this. Walker met and knew many important and pertinent people in this case, who were never mentioned by him in public. That showed me he had an awareness of confidentiality, and a defined criteria as to what he would broach in public.

Hoover and the WC's conclusions pretty much nullified the desired results of the plotters IMO. Some were grateful while others like Walker were not. They kept stirring the pot every chance the got.

Actually Walker and his cohorts were not really "lone assassin" advocates. They believed Oswald was involved, but that he had communist "confederates" that the WC failed to bring out.

Walker continually spoke of the WC as a sham. At one point at a Citizens 'Council rally in Baton Rogue on 7/4/65, Walker and Ned Touchstone and others called for a new investigation into finding these "confederates" that might still be in Louisiana, and were asking for donations to conduct their own inquiry. Walker called the JFK murder a "coup d' etat and a complete take over of the Government" he predicted more assassinations would take place.

There aim was to tie the communists into the plot. I believe this was one of the original motives of the plot, that never really came to fruition.

Paul Rothermel told us that he "has an original copy of the Zapruder film, that would put the lie to the public version that is out there." He was asked by H.L Hunt to obtain it right after the assassination. Was he BS'ing us? Perhaps, but..........

I got the definite feeling he was dead serious.

BTW, there were parts on Hall, Howard and Hemming and the California contingent, that had to be edited down due to book length. That chapter just got too long.

No Paul, Ferrie was a well known homosexual in the 'Quarter' and elsewhere. This was one reason he couldn't get along with some of the exiles, who frowned upon him because of their Roman Catholic attitudes (beliefs). Word filtered down through the Cuban community in NO's early on, that Ferrie had been charged with "crimes against nature" and it did not sit well with them...at all!

I don't want to get into specifics online about Mr. Morrow. Suffice it to say, I have several reasons to think he was a phony, interested in selling books..or, disinfo . Most likely both. He later got sued and lost, for his accusations in his book on the RFK case.

Paul, Be careful regarding Morrow and his "credibility". After talking with Mr. Morrow after a COPA meeting in Chicago, Caufield and I determined that he never met David Ferrie. Morrow could barely describe Ferrie physically, and said he would never forget his "southern drawl". As Steve Roy can confirm, Ferrie hailed from Cleveland Ohio, which Morrow did not seem to know, and DID NOT have a "southern drawl"... at all! This and other observations led us to discount Morrow for the most part.
