  1. James, I've never seen anything to indicate that Roselli was connected

to Freeport, much less taking money from them. His money was

virtually all from deal making within the LA and Vegas venues.

Not that he didn't have connections in New Orleans but if Freeport was one of

them it would be news... (Larry Hancock)

    Larry,

I mentioned it because and I am going on memory here, that a contact (can not recall his name) of Andrew Sciambra told him that a Mr. Wight of Freeport Sulphur contacted him regarding an assassination attempt against Castro.

A Charles Wight was a director of Freeport Sulphur.

In Peter Wyden's 'Bay of Pigs - The Untold Story', John Roselli told his Cuban contacts that he represented Wall Street money men who amongst other things, had nickel interests in Cuba.

Freeport Nickel Company was a subsidiary of Freeport Sulphur. Given that Roselli was the one approached for the early Castro assassination plots, Freeport Sulphur may have been one of the early benefactors?

A few leaps of faith required but worth pondering I believe.

  2. Interested in Wesley Grapp, FBI?

Grapp unlike most Bureau agents I dealt with was an old grouch

and Very Close with FBI Director Hoover. Grappy was sent out

to verify information I had given to the Los Angeles office and

other regular agents over a several months period in 1963 re; JFK,

FPCC, some anti- Castro {Alpha 66} and Pro- Castro, and other

groups with whom I was associated, eg; MM, JBS etc.

It is likely William Turner, Author, and {former FBI Agent} is very much

aware of Grapp, in case researchers are interested in information on

    Grapp and/or his connections to Hoover & etc;

    Harry

    Hi Harry,

Can you confirm that after retiring from the FBI, Grapp became the head of security for Flying Tigers Airlines?

  3. Given this thread it is also worth noting that we now have documents that show that Phillips was very well entrenched with a lot of the old school Cuban and American businessmen who very much wanted access to Cuba again. This involved not only the King Ranch folks but the Freeport Sulpher people (Phillips was introduced to them and apparently traveled to New Oreleans for meetings) as well as the whole Lobo sugar axis of companies in New York. (Larry Hancock)

    Hi Larry,

I found it interesting that one of the Bay of Pigs planners and advocate for the assassination of Castro, Arleigh Burke (below), was on the Board of Directors for Freeport Sulphur.

Do you give any credibility to the possibility that John Roselli was receiving money in the early days of Castro assassination plans from Freeport Sulphur?

  4. Murray Chotiner was also associated with Mickey Cohen, one of the leaders of the mob in Los Angeles. Chotiner persuaded Cohen to supply funds for Nixon's election campaigns in 1946 and 1950. This story was published by Drew Pearson in 1956 and 1959. Nixon did not sue Pearson but the story was not confirmed until Cohen signed confession in October, 1962. At the time he was in Alcatraz prison.  Cohen claims he raised $75,000 for Nixon in 1950 in return for political favours. This deal was arranged via Chotiner. In his autobiography, Cohen claims that the orders to help Nixon came from Meyer Lansky. This is interesting as there is evidence that Bebe Rebozo, Nixon and Lansky were involved in business deals in pre-Castro Cuba.

    Good stuff, John.

There is another name that deserves a mention who moved in the circle of players you have cited. That is Harold Meltzer. Meltzer was Cohen's man and even though I have no proof, I believe Chotiner was also associated with Meltzer.

Meltzer becomes really interesting as I believe he was the first man approached by Charles Siragusa after Siragusa was allegedly approached himself by Agency man Vincent Thill (could that have been David Morales?) to recruit Mafia thugs for assassination duties.

Meltzer probably deserves his own thread. This is him below.

    FWIW.

  5. Who is the interesting character in the background? (John Simkin)

He looks a bit like John Roselli. Wouldn't that be something?

Anyway, Rebozo sure moved in interesting circles. There are plenty of potential sources for assassination finance and laundering through 'Keyes Realty' might have been one of them.

I think assassination funding most likely came from a variety of places, and all of them not having any real idea on specific details.

Great thread, thanks for the information on Rebozo.

  6. John,

According to 'Power To Destroy' by John Andrews, Nixon invested heavily in Florida land via a secretive investment syndicate headed by Rebozo. Nixon and Rebozo forged close ties to Keyes Realty which was mainly set up as an investment funnel for all those millions that syndicate figures and Cuban politicians were bringing out of Batista's Cuba.

Eugenio Martinez was Vice President of Keyes Realty. Later, Martinez and Bernard Barker formed another real estate firm called 'Ameritas'. This was to serve as a cover for the principals of the Watergate break-in.

It is interesting to note that the Edgardo Buttari mentioned worked with Bernard Barker in handling Cubans for clandestine activities. Buttari was also the 'Director for Social Assistance for the First Officers of Brigade 2506'. Bernardo de Torres was the Vice Director.

    FWIW.

It seems that the John B. Hurt that worked for NSA till 1963 was in fact dealing with intelligence information into and out of Sweden and Helsinki during WWII.  Information continues to flow in.

Could this associate him with Win Scott?  Wilho Tikander would be a must.  It seems that there was a German agent that was either turned or was in fact an asset of ours.  The Japanese "uncovered" this agent and reported it to their Ambassador.  Hurt and his team uncovered this information and moved to quickly pull the German out off harms way.

    Jim Root

    Good stuff, Jim.

Do you know what the German's name was?

  8. I was wondering if anyone can add meat to the bones of the following.

Charles Siragusa supposedly told Jack Anderson that around 1960, he was approached by an Agency man named Vincent Thill and it was suggested that Siragusa (given his past investigative roles) recruit Mob hitmen for Agency use. Thill claimed he was in contact with CIA people Sheffield Edwards, James Angelton and John Mertz.

Harold Meltzer (associate of Meyer Lansky) was apparently one considered for this assignment.

It has also been noted on another forum thread that an Agency man by the name of Vincent Pivall was singled out in a Rip Robertson report for outstanding service during the overthrow of Arbenz in Guatemala.

I am wondering if Vincent Pivall could be Vincent Thill? I hold the opinion that Vincent Pivall was in fact David Morales. Pivall, Thill, kind of sounds the same.

Maybe I'm just grabbing at straws. I would be interested in any opinions or additional information.

    Cheers,

    James

  9. Im currently looking into johnson and sague. Im going to contact soldier of fortune magazine who johnson wrote for in the 70s. (John Geraghty)

    John,

Robert Emmett Johnson also wrote for True Magazine. He authored an interesting article titled, "I Stuck Pins In A Voodoo Dictator" which appeared in a 1968 issue. I have the article in question and he mentions some very interesting characters. One in particular is Marc Krause. If one was putting together a French assassination team then Krause would be the first man hired. (IMO)

  10. I have no idea if this means anything or not but thought I would mention it.

Declan Ford's resume contains the information that he attended the University of California between 1946 and 1948. One of the subjects he took was American History and Government.

Interesting to note that David Morales attended the same University in 1946 graduating in 1947. Morales also did American History and Government.

    Small world.

The first attachment shows Rachel Oswald's christening. The woman on the right is Declan Ford's wife, Katherine.

The second attachment is the appropriate information from Ford's resume.

    FWIW.

  11. James.

Is this the same guy who appears on the right of your image. (Robin Unger)

I have no idea, Robin. Interesting thought though. The guy escorting Robert Oswald was discussed some time back I believe as resembling the character in Dealey Plaza who was said to be Jim Braden.

I have to say though that your comparison has some eery similarities. Having said that, the man positioned at the corner of Main and Houston and then photographed strolling toward Elm Street seems to be much older. (IMO)

  12. Interesting thoughts, Lee.

The possible use of dark skinned Cubans is curious indeed. Let's not forget about Herminio Diaz Garcia also.

Researching Izquierdo is an interesting exercise. There is virually nothing on him via the Internet or in print publications but the exile community in Miami considered him to be such a legend that a statue was erected in Little Havana at the cost of some $60,000. This exercise was overseen by one Gilberto Casanova who was in charge of the Accion Cubana militant group of which Orlando Bosch had some close ties with.

Now if you Google the usual suspects like Artime, Posada and Felix Rodriguez, the hits are voluminious to say the least. Izquierdo however draws almost a blank. What does the exile community know that the Internet doesn't? :tomatoes

    Bizarre.

  13. Thank you, John. James always seems to have a great deal of knowledge regarding the firearms - I didn't know if he had an actual collection or not (Now I'm beginning to wonder if I've mixed James Richards up with someone else's postings...) That was a rather spontaneous "p.s." - just something I'd been meaning to ask the right person. I can probably get a rough idea in a local gunshop. (JL Allen)

    JL,

All I know about firearms is that there is a dangerous pointy end and you shouldn't be using one after consuming too much Jack Daniels.

John is right, my good friend Ryan Crowe is the man when it comes to weapons.

    James

  14. James, are you sure that is a picture of Lou Russell. (John Simkin)

According to Australia Post magazine, it is Russell. I do think it is the same man. Same nose, chin.

Do we know the actual dates of the images?

    James

  15. Lou Russell on the left below.

Great. I did not think one existed. Have you gor photographs of Bernard Fensterwald, Lee R. Pennington, Carmine Bellino and John Leon?

    John,

The first image is Carmine Bellino.

The second one is Hoover with Lee Pennington (sorry about the poor quality).

    Third image is Bernard Fensterwald.

I don't have one of John Leon.
