  1. This is Joe Scarborough talking to G. Gordon Liddy regarding Deep Throat.

    FWIW.

    James

    ******************

    G. GORDON LIDDY, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: But there‘s an awful lot of fishy smell having to do with this thing.

First of all, we knew that Bob Woodward had a number of sources, and we knew the identities of some of the sources. And probably Mr. Felt may have given him more information than any other, and he can sort of stick the designation of Deep Throat on him, but it‘s still more of a composite. And I will tell you why I think so.

He wrote of this big, long past relationship that he had with his friend Deep Throat. And there‘s no evidence that there was any association or friendship between Mark Felt and Bob Woodward. Secondly, why would the number two man at the FBI, who wanted, presumably, to get information out, choose to leak to the metro reporter?

SCARBOROUGH: But what would Bob Woodward have to gain by pinning Deep Throat on one guy, instead of this composite you speak of?

LIDDY: Well, he has to—he has to—he has to have—he has to have him on—one, he has been dining out on this story now for, what, 30-some-odd years. And he got badly burned when Ted Koppel caught him, when he said that he had had that conversation with former CIA Director Casey, who was, at the time, aphasic.

And Ted Koppel embarrassed him mortally on that and his credibility hasn‘t been very good since.

    SCARBOROUGH: Any final thoughts?

LIDDY: This, that if Mark Felt was Deep Throat, he is no hero. He is someone who behaved unethically, in that he did not take his evidence to the grand jury and seek an indictment. That‘s what he should have done, instead of selectively leak to one news outlet some of the information that he had.

SCARBOROUGH: All right. Thank you, G. Gordon Liddy.

  2. James, you seem very adept at working with pictures online. Perhaps you can give me some guidance.

I am working on AOL. I often have trouble saving JPGs found online, and it just happened with the Oswald pic. I right-clicked and selected "Save picture as", but when the work box popped up, my only save options were Bitmap or ART file. I can't open either type of file in any program, including PhotoShop7. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Stephen,

I don't know anything about AOL, but on my PC, I use the 'My Pictures' function which can be found in the 'My Documents' folder. I just create new folders for each topic, create a short cut to my desktop and save images into the appropriate folder.

My photo managing program is 'ACDSee 6' which I have no problems with.

I don't know if this will help you or not. Good luck.

  3. Just looking at the image again, is it possible that it is not a protrusion? It may possibly be some type of shadow or reflection? Although I am not sure, Adam (Adam Wilkinson)

    Hi Adam,

Thanks for your thoughts. I guess the thing here is to lock in exactly how long after the shooting this image was captured. I now agree with Bernice that it is longer than the 2 minutes I originally thought.

It may well be an anomaly of some sort, it is just too hard to tell. As tempting as it is to ponder the possibility of it being a rifle barrel, I think common sense suggests it is something else.

    Curious though.

  4. Jim,

I believe the picture I posted came from 1945. It was a combination of ex 99th Battalion leaders and the 474th Infantry Regiment Commanders.

I don't have any details on what Tikander did after 1947.

Here's an image forum members might find interesting. It is the RYPE group which came out of the 99th. The guy 3rd from the right seated is none other than William Colby.

The mixing of people like Walker, Colby and later Harrod Miller is a curious thing.

  5. Friends, especially picture collectors:

I believe that there are at least two photos of Lee Harvey Oswald in his Civil Air Patrol uniform, facial portraits (not the famoius Ciravolo bivouac piture, which I have). I would love to get a good scan of either or both of these. Anybody have one ready to go?

    Thanks!

    Hi Stephen,

Is this one of the images you refer to? It's not the greatest quality.

    James

  6. John, I do not want to accuse anyone of being involved in the assassination without good evidence to support it.  But if it is your argument that every anti-Castro Cuban with close links to the CIA must be considered a suspect, then how do you classify Artime himself?  As you know, Artime died suddenly, at a very young age, in the mid-seventies (an important period in the Kennedy investigation) but apparently of natural causes.

    Hi Tim,

I do not want to answer for John, but one has to consider that if Artime was not involved with the assassination itself, he was in a position to know who was.

Gerry Hemming named the Dal-Tex spotter as Nestor 'Tony' Izquierdo, an identification I tend to agree with. Artime and Izquierdo were very close friends having formed the Rural Commandos together during the revolution in Cuba.

Both men were together in Brigade 2506 and both men continued their anti-Castro activities after the failed invasion.

If Artime was in a position to know details of the plot, then his death on November 17, 1977 should be seen as suspicious. (IMO)

  7. Thanks, Ron. I knew I had read that Oliver information somwhere.

I'm not too sure what to make of it all though. Beverly claims to have danced with Jack Lawrence, to have been one of the closest eye witnesses to the assassination and to have actually filmed the shooting from an angle which would have given us a look at the knoll area. She was certainly amongst the action.

I don't want to direct this thread away from Lawrence, although he might be connected somehow. I keep thinking about how Beverly was married to Mob guy George McGann at a ceremony where R. D. Matthews was Best Man. Matthews is a close associate of Lewis McWillie and mentor of sorts to Charles Harrelson. Interesting cast of characters.

Could Beverly have been encouraged by someone like Ruby to film the assassination from the ideal spot, maybe figuring the film would be worth a nice chunk of change?

    My head hurts now.

Beverly and McGann below. Looks like Matthews on the extreme right.

  8. Does anyone have a reference for the information that Lawrence was supposedly a Castro supporter having been in Cuba during the revolution?

Also, Lawrence was purportedly at the Cabana during the evening before the assassination where he danced with Beverly Oliver? He was using the name Donny Allen Lance?

This is from memory as I can't find the information in my notes.

    James

  9. Ron,

Guys like McNamara may not have had anything to with what happened in Dallas or indeed possess any knowledge what-so-ever regarding the assassination plot itself. Personally, I feel the tentacles of conspiracy did not extend a great deal into the sitting government.

It is conceivable though that incredible pressure was brought to bear to follow a script after the fact. If a popular President could be brutally slain on the streets of a modern American city then the message was very clear, everyone could be got to.

  10. I did some checking on Ernesto Esteban and discovered that there was a guy who went through Fort Benning in 1963 named Ernesto Esteban Leon. I have no idea if this is the same guy who was connected to Orcaberrio. Esteban below.

BTW, I am trying to get a photo of Ernesto Rodriguez but to this point, with no luck.

    FWIW.

    James

  11. Hi Greg,

I can't help with Ernesto Rodriguez but there was a Cuban by the name of Ernesto Esteban who apparently had something to do with the Dallas chapter of Alpha 66, and was closely associated with Manuel Orcaberrio.

I don't really know anything about him, just thought I would offer the name in case it rang any bells.

    Cheers,

    James

  12. I found Mr. Novel's purported alibi, being at the Stork Club, interesting. The Stork Club was owned by Sherman Billingsley, was it not, who was not only very close to J. Edgar Hoover bu was also the father-in-law to anti-Castro adventurer (and purported intelligence agent) Alexander Rorke, who disappeared 6 weeks before the assassination after having flown down to Mexico the same time as Oswald's visit. (Pat Speer)

    You are indeed correct, Pat.

JFK and Jackie at the Stork Club below.

  13. Hi Larry,

I don't have the exact graduation date but they went in during March of 1963 and apparently finished mid year. Sorry for the lack of details there.

Different services of the U.S. Military commissioned these guys including the Marines. The photo below is the Brigade members who served with the Marines.

Morales did recruit freely from these guys as he did with those who ended up in the Army (the bulk of them did). I will dig up that photo and send it to you.

    James

  14. Both these men seem younger and slimmer than the two men identified as Rip Robertson and friend. (John Simkin)

    You might be right, John.

It just struck me that these 2 guys seemed to be walking with purpose toward the TSBD (or to the man seen in the background) while everyone else was milling aimlessly around.

I don't want to read too much into the Murray image but it seems that after the photograph Lee Forman unearthed, these men do not seem to be present in any other image snapped around the knoll area or behind the fence.

Having said that, there is this below in which a section of activity may be construed as suspicious. I refer to the top left hand corner where we have what looks like a hatless member of the DPD and a man wearing a suit leaning into a parked car. What is going on here?

It may of course be completely innocent but my Spidey senses suggest otherwise.

    FWIW.

    James

  15. Good post, Larry.

About the only thing I could find concerning Rodriguez and what he was doing in 1963 was his graduation from Fort Benning. I was always curious as to the relationship between Rodriguez and Rafael Quintero during this period and ultimately to David Morales.

You are also right about Morales and the depth to how he operated. Lots of secrets there which I believe include assassination attempts against Castro and his hierarchy going way back to 1960.

  16. I thought this would be a good place to post some anecdotes on

JFK assassination figure GORDON NOVEL, and comment on his claims. (Shanet Clark)

If anyone feels the need to be driven insane, then research Gordon Novel. He is one of the more bizarre individuals one could encounter. He had solid connections to Mitch WerBell, Clay Shaw, John DeLorean, Larry Flynt, Carlos Marcello, plus his name pops up in things like UFO research, the Oklahoma City bombing, Waco, plus a multitude of other controversial happenings.

I saw an interview with him on the History Channel not so long ago where he claimed Carlos Marcello showed him the photographs of Hoover and Tolson in somewhat of a compromising situation.

I believe it was Mary Ferrell who made the comment that Novel was the most dangerous man in America.

    FWIW.

  17. Mr. Richards:

I have been reading your comments about the CAYSAL, Hughes thing and my father's involvement ( C.Osment Moody) with great detail. Many of the people you mentioned in your writings I knew as a child. My father is considereing a book on the subject. Get back to me and I may be able to answer your questions. If I don't know the answer, I will pass on the question to Oz for his comments. (Tom Moody)

    Hi Tom,

Please call me James. It is wonderful that you have joined the forum. Your father is a fascinating individual and any inside information you can furnish would be read with keen interest.

Also if you have any photographs of your dad taken from the early 1960's and feel comfortable posting them here, I'm sure many forum members would view them with enormous curiosity. I am positive that John Simkin can help you if you have any technical difficulties.

Specifically, can you or your dad comment on what was actually going on at Cay Sal with the Cuban exiles and did Hughes or Robert Maheu have any hands on role?

    Cheers,

    James
